and buddies can oval your thumb properly, make sure your thumb is ok, and make sure your bevel is correct?

I guess the times are soon to come where you just put your hand up to the monitor and take a picture.  Then everyone can drill for you.

You've obviously never dealt with Buddies. They will call regarding pin/tw if they can't get close, they don't just ship whatever they feel like. Their drilling services are very reasonable, $50 with slug/grips, and free shipping. Plus they have coupons. I can have them drill me an Invasion w/grips/slug and ship it to my house for $179.99. Plus they WILL warranty it.

Local shops here--Invasion $229 + $16 grips/slugs + $13.74 tax = $258.74

Wonder where I'll buy my stuff from??? I'll keep the $78 for myself thanks.

How many of you are selling an Invasion drilled w/grips & slugs with warranty, out the door for $180??? Buddies does....

Until you have to pay $65 to get it drilled, have no warranty, and usually don't get pin and top weight you want.

OMG you have done it now, these pro shop NUTS are going to call you every name in the book...But I fully agree with you and get all my stuff from Buddies and save myself a lot off money but SHHHHHH don't tell them.

It depends on the brand of balls I want to buy. I prefer my pro shop on balls like Ebonite, Hammer, Brunswick, Storm, etc. However, balls like Morich, Visionary, Lane 1, Motiv, etc, my pro shop doesn't sell these balls so I can get a better deal on line than my pro shop will give me plus my pro shop prefers I get those particular balls on line.

Talk to Busddies, anyone, its a pro shop and an internet site.  Get both great oppurtunites with one on line service.

Ask them about drilling, cost of ball, taxes and shipping.  Ask them to view your video so can can see you bowl before making recommendations.

In the world we live in today, a professional internet site is every bit as good if not better (and most definetly cheaper) then the pro shops that have to make a $100 (approx) on a ball.

Yeah, I use Buddies and I will never go back unless it's little things. Or if I want some ball work since I don't have a spinner any more.

I buy equipment online. Even though it costs about the same in the long run, I can choose when to drop the extra cash for the drilling job.

Say I want a ball that is $190 out the door at the shop, and I can buy the same ball for $100 online. I'll go ahead and buy the ball, spend the $100, and later when I decide how I want to drill it, pay the driller his fee for punching it up.

What about warranty you ask? Balls crack, but I ain't no pro, so a little plug in them won't kill me (to repair a crack). I also buy several a year (because this way I can afford to), so if one does become unusable, I usually have one stashed away somewhere anyway.

To the OP. Buddies has a great reputation, service, and pricing.

Not bashing buddies at all
I have heard great things about them
but there just something about buying online that I dont like (maybe its cause my dad used to own 2 pro shops and I worked in them)
but it is good for the sport and the centers if you are supporting your local pro shop

most of the the good shop owners do a lot for this sport and for their customers
you need to support them
they help this sport out a lot

That works for you, but I'm sure the general public typically wants the ball drilled when they are purchased. The pro-shop owners here aren't all saying "You should only buy from shops, not online." Most of the people are saying, if you're buying 4 balls and are drilling them, buying straight from a pro-shop would be a good idea as the pro-shop guy can get them the balls, drill them, and maybe cut them a better price since they are buying in bulk through him.

As for me, when I was bowling seriously 2 years ago, I always trusted my stuff with the user Tekneek here. He's usually got great prices, and I took the chance and had my stuff drilled online through him, and he does a great job. I purchased and had drilled both balls I kept after I stopped bowling from him (Ogre Pearl and Tropical Storm).

I wish I could afford to buy a ball and not drill it until later! Then again, I also wish I had time to bowl leagues again.

I've bought at buddies and bowling ball.com,and a few others. No problem with any of them.Had a Smash zone to crack the first week I used it and bowling ball.com took it back with out a question. With that being said if your pro shop can get close to the on-line price, buy from them. They are going to be there when you need to service the product, cleaning and so forth. The pro-shop can be a valuable resource to you.

I disagree with the mark up on bowling balls being much less then $100 profit for local pro shops.

If I ordered a C-System 3.5 from Buddies for $139 no shipping and no taxes and get it drilled here for $30 including grips, I supply the thumb slug it comes out to about $175.  Now I got to believe that Buddies has some mark up because they have to make a profit also and to eat the shipping also.

So whats the going price for a C-system drilled with inserts and thumb slugs out the door?  Plus here in San Diego we have to pay about 9 percent taxes.

A huge problem for me and local pro shops is that I have always used 16lbs, and when the 15lb fad kicked in there was no reason to buy local because either way I had to wait a few days to get equipment.
