Title: why do they just buy new or better shoes????
Post by: xrayjay on September 30, 2016, 11:39:40 AM
I'm getting tired of seeing a pile of powder or easy slide under chairs, under ball returns, between ball rack and scores table, or anywhere - rule-12 baby....

The league before ours, there is someone who is dumping baby powder under the ball rack and it spreads.

I act like I have no idea who did it, and then ask the house attendant to clean it up.

If they do it again, then I will confront them.

There used to be a guy who would come in for open bowling right before our league every Monday night. He used house shoes, so he'd dump a pile of power on the floor, coat his shoes in it, and bowl. Well, as you can imagine, the powder would make the approach (he only bowled on 1 lane) like a sheet of ice. I used to have to switch soles/heels between frames in order to keep from killing myself. I was shocked that center staff saw him doing it and allowed it.  :o

I bowled in a center where they allowed one guy to use powder because he would get aggressive with anyone that would say anything to him other than what they wanted hear.  and they didn't "want to lose a loyal league bowler"

a teammate of mine got injured in a fall caused by his tracking of powder on the approach.  They still wouldn't do anything to help enforce the rule.

So our team and 2 others quit and moved centers.  with one of us asking if catering to 1 person was worth losing 15.  The owner just had a dear in the head lights look when we all told him we were moving.

Some places just don't understand or care enough

Unfortunately, there is so much talk about the newest and greatest bowling ball that new bowlers overhear and not so much about the best shoes to use.  Most newer bowlers will spend the greater portion of their bowling budget on the bowling ball and as an afterthought, pick up the cheapest pair of bowling shoes that they like the look of.

In reality, they should spend more on the shoes and buy the budget bowling ball.  They would be better served with a good pair of bowling shoes that allow them to develop a more consistent slide and release (if you are sticking or your foot keeps going out from under you, it is difficult to get a consistent release) and then buy a better bowling ball when they have more money available later.
