I can always use good advice! I think the possibility is there for this idea to work.
Jeff - How do you envision the coaching forum playing out? Simple postings of helpful tips? Video coaching? Would there be a fee? How ould you/BR regulate this? I guess I'm curious as to more details of how you would like to see this idea carried out.
I think it's a good idea, though.

Heh whenever I ask a coaching related question no one answers. It's funny how everyone knows everything until you ask a simple question.
-
"As long as it's used for help and not making fun of someones game, than I think it will be good."
You won't see these type of comments form the true coaches. As a USBC Bronze level coach, I believe a coaching forum would be great. Even Tiger Woods uses a coach.

I think people have followed the rules in the bowling videos forum pretty well. People are usually very constructive on there...

Great Idea!!

Jeff,
I think a coaching forum would be great idea.
I've worked with Lyle Zikes, who is a Silver Level Coach, and an all around great guy. (I'm sure you know Lyle and Les).
Coaching with video analysis is great...
Bowler gets to see what they are ACTUALLY doing...
Not what they THINK the are doing.
I will get that picture to you for your web site.

Video analysis I hear is sort of a man thing!
A woman teaching other woman to golf has made quite a career of disparaging that practice for woman. (I know this does not apply to all). Just interesting I thought!

I like the idea too!
In fact it be great if BR.com had a "Coaches Corner" where bowling coaches would be able to post a coaching article that would include topics such as, but not limited to: the mental game, fitness, practice drills, equipment/balls, state of affairs with pro and amateur bowling.

I'd be interested in this, especially getting tips on how to better coach youth bowlers. I coach saturday youth league in my bowling center.

Sounds like a great idea! However, it would need to have "something" in addition to or better than all the existing coaching/guidance/tips/videos already on the internet.
Numerous sites provide bowling guidance, information and suggestions from a group of great coaches.
The best coaching comes from one on one coaching while on the lanes. That means you (the bowler) must have the coach right on the lane with you, analyzing the video right after you bowl, pointing out what you should be doing and helping you do it.
I don't know how that can be accomplished via Ballreviews.com.

I can mess up your timing, mental and physical game all in one shot. I can have you chucking the ball as bad as me in no time at all, but of course all this is only available for a fee. Let me know if you need to the help as that is why i am here

There's no coaching forum because all of these terrible hacks will turn into John Jowdy and Fred Borden overnight from the safety of their own keyboard. It's bad enough you have 190 average house bowlers with 50 balls giving people drilling reccomendations like they're Mo Pinel.
I'd say make the forum, it'll only add to the ongoing joke that this site has become.
p.s. We all at the top of this sport are laughing at you. We are.
As much as sitting at the top and laughing at everyone is good for the continued growth in the interest of the sport through new bowlers, maybe it would be nice if some of the bowling geniuses could come in and answer some questions every now and then. I guess that's the point of the proposed coaching forum.
-
Okay, now that we've heard from our sponsor, the Anger Management Alliance, let's get back to our regularly scheduled programming...
...yes, Jeff, I'd be interested. I no longer have access to much coaching where I live now and would welcome the wisdom of someone who knows what they're talking about.

You could have regular posters posting up articles on whatever they feel like at the time. This could then be searched and archived... It's also a good opportunity for some regulars to help out with all the questions people have without having to sift through the other stuff.
-
If you are the one giving the coaching I'd like it lol. But I do like the idea.

Well, I guess I'll be the 1st one to say, although it isn't possible, to coach someone without seeing visibly what the bowler might need to fix, it really would be in the best interest of all involved to be on the approach at the same time as the bowler.
But Jeff you bring up a great thought.
I hope your rehab is going as good as could be expected, and heal fast

Who needs coaching when I can just go and buy the most expensive, biggest hooking, 300 game in a box ball and just toss it right and watch it come back and shatter the pins.
Wait a second. I just looked down at my BARE fingers typing this post....count me in Jeff.

I don't think that ballreivews.com should become that large a bowling site. It might be cool, but it may be a waste; there's only so much a person can tell you without having the person in front of you.
-
Coaching on this site??
If you're not coaching how to get 600+ revs on the ball and playing coast to coast, it's not bowling, just boring strikes.
Coaching on here is what ball to get next.
Probably get some posts from us old Pharts on here, but we're a dying breed.
Hope to see you on TV soon.

Although I don't agree with the rhetoric used here, there is a point that can be taken. If there was such a forum, to avoid anyone and everyone acting as coach, a user list of certified coaches on this site might be a quite helpful. There might be more value in the posting if the bowler seeking help was able to determine whether the advice was being given by John Jowdy or some 13 year old with an internet connection...No offense to all of the 13 year old certified coaches out there

Great input guys....its always good to hear feedback like that. I am in the finishing stages of my online coaching program for my website, where you submit videos to me through our servers and i can then input the video into my system, then build a custom lesson plan and send you the CD back with voiceovers. We've been working on this program for over 2 years now and with a little luck it will be launched very soon. The program is finished, we're just working on the payment pages and then it should be good to go.
I dont really want to turn this into my own personal advertisement, but i did want to see what the interest level is in coaching in a forum setting. I'm thinking ofworking through this site to help the education of bowlers across the country. I'm talking about physical game, mental game, lane play, PBA Experience league advice, arsenal assembly, ball reaction help, etc...
There will be a charge for my services online, but i'm sure we can do something in this forum to give people a place to go to share some tips. Of course i'm hoping that other coaches will catch on and chime in. I'm willing to help anybody at anytime, any age or skill level. With my online programs i can coach anybody, anywhere, anytime. It may not have the same appeal as having a "one on one" coach with you on the lanes, but i feel that i have the coaching experience that just about anybody can utilize. No i guess its up to me to get everything up and running and turn you guys loose !!! I will send the webmasters a note and see if they would be interested in adding a coaching section to this forum. Thanks again for your responses

Funny thing. I have heard that throwing a football in a spiral underhand demonstrates the release to gain revs but I never used that technique for instruction myself. I was wondering where to post my request for a coach's explanation for a step by step. A coach's forum would be perfect.

Most of the bowlers that are shooting big numbers already know it doesn't mean anything on the house walls. Jeff set the record for highest league average of 261 or something like that. He still had to work his a@@ off to make the show on the PBA tour.
I for one am always making trips to the Kegel Training Center to see if I can make it to the next level. I know my 235 league average means nothing. Now my C.A.T.S numbers are a lot more relevant. If I can just get my break point accuracy down to three boards ! I'm for anything that can take me to that point.
