I am going to be accused of sandbagging.

I know its going to happen.  In the winter my average was 202 until the last month and a half.  I started bowling very bad ( im talking 120's )  By the end of the season my average was down to 188.  So I came into the new summer leauge and continued to bowl like crap.  I don't what the hell happened, but I just cannot bowl anymore.   So after 3 weeks in the first league we get our "new" averages and mine is a 157.  So I bowled the other night I figured out what I was doing wrong.  ( hand position )   So I bowled at 194, 188, 205. I'll probably be back on the right track now, but im worried about being accused of sandbagging. I have heard people make comments, but wtf do i do?

haha, im kinda in the same boat as you are.  I just started bowling in march and everyday my skill is increasing but inconsistently.  I can bowl wacked a wacked out series like 130-202-145, or one week ill have a 180 average the next ill bowl in the 130's...ive gotten sandbag comments as well.  Just tell them that you dont believe in it and you always do your best.  Nothing they can do about it.

Interested in this post because something similar happened to me. Finished last league with 166 avg and last Tuesday I shot 214, 216, 190. We tied with the other team, guys with 210+ avgs, mainly because of my handicap. Obviously they were not that happy.

I think real honest people shouldn't have problems with this. I didn't shoot 166 on purpose, problems with execution, my conscience is fine because I know I'll do me best to try this not to happen again. If somebody makes bad comments, I'll ignore them and put these guys on my black list.

Seriously, you can't go around defending yourself to everyone who makes a bad comment.  Keep in mind that they hate that you beat them.

Every year there's a few people who bowls like carp the first few weeks and a few people who bowl really well.  An honest person can't control the weeks he's "on" and the weeks he's "off".  It's just the way it is.  As EB said, people who know you're honest will understand.  We have a guy who's normally a 195-205 average bowler but took last year off.  Hasn't bowled regularly in a year.  Comes in an sets a low 170s average.  A few weeks later, he's remembered how to bowl and killing people in the bracket (it's a $2 bracket, so not big money).

That's just the way handicap leagues work.  They reward people who improve, whether they "improve" because of sandbagging or legitimately improve.  You know which of those two is the case.

Ignore them.  When I came home from college and joined a league, the shot was very different than what I was used to at school.  All my stuff was shiny, drilled to go long.  So I started off kind of rough.  Well, I got some new stuff drilled, did some practicing and got things back in line.  People made comments, never to my face of course.  But they always made them to the guys that had known me since high school and they stood up for me.  So basically, the people that matter are the ones that know you, and the ones that know you won't accuse you of bagging

Man as long as you know that you are giving 100% than the hell with them. Keep working on your game and trying to improve.

That's why I won't bowl anything with handicap.  Scratch all the way.  Real bowlers know who the guys are who are sandbagging.
