Just noticed this. Looked at a recent review of the ball, and happened to glance at the core. I'd never paid much attention to it, but for some reason it caught my eye this time. Very obviously an arrow core with a puck at the bottom if nothing else. What's the deal with Columbia using cores so similar to older Brunswick ones?

Actually now it looks like Columbia has ripped off a Brunswick core for the second time, because the Quantums came out before the Sport ball. It is apparent that the Wicked B/R/T core is a modified Sport ball core, though. However, the Quantums were the first to contain the arrow cores. But thanks for pointing out the Sport ball core, lol, helps our argument . .

Did you read the first half of the post? There are many similarities between all manufacturer's cores. There's only so much you can do with core design, so things are going to look similar from one company to another. There are some unique designs that crop up from time to time, but most fall into similar shapes and densities. One could argue that the Lane 1 Diamond design ripped off the Pulse, or that the Beast ripped off the Nail, or that the Voodoo ripped off the Red Reactive Hammer, or that the White Dot ripped off the Crown Jewel. Give it a rest.

Yeah, I saw what you said about similar designs, but some of them are a little blatant in their attempts.

Hamster,
I think you need to realize that flat pictures reveal little about the actual similarities in these cores. They all use different densities in different pieces of the core to modify the RG values and the differentials. Why do you keep harping on the vaguest general resemblances of the appearance of cores from one comapny to the next? Let it go already; it serves no purpose. If one company were "Stealing" secrets from the other, they'd both be in court. If they're not worried, why are you?
Here's an idea for you to consider: Columbia balls using this core is dramatically earlier rolling in its ball path than the equivalent. The Wicked vs the Wicked B/R/T is a strong example of that, the original being as flippy as most skid/flip pearls and the B/R/T being very early rolling for a resin solid. There are several other balls in Columbia older and current line-up and they are all early rolling with less backend hook.
The Quantum mushroom core balls were not early rolling until the heavy load particles were introduced. Most retained lots of energy and had lots of length, depending on all the factors, not just the looks of the core.

Randy,

Looking on pbamembers.com the Buzzsaw was out before the Pulse. So, Columbia was ripping off Lane 1. quote:
or that the Beast ripped off the Nail
I believe the Beast ripped off the Ebonite Turbo, which was the first lightbulb core. It seems like Columbia is doing most of the ripping off..!! =:^D

It's just about originality. I like the if it's not broke, don't fix it approach, but it's about like seeing a ton of movies that are basically the same come out all at the same time. Then there are some things that should be shot, like the new Star Wars movies. Or George Lucas . .
