Winter Season Over......finally!
« on: May 14, 2018, 11:08:27 PM »
My Monday night league finally came to a close tonight. We were in 15th place, but since it was tight, from 20th place all the way up to second, we still had a chance to move up a spot.

Took a chance and changed the surface of my blue Paradox, earlier in the day. I'd been scoring well with it all season, usually sets of 640-660 range. But tonight, in position round we faced a team we had not beaten in two previous position round meetings.

So I took my Paradox to the spinner. Hit it with a 1000 abralon pad for 10 seconds on all six sides. Knocked off the lane shine and whoopee! it worked! My carry increased by about 30% or more!

This change was perfect timing, since my teammates took a little time getting lined up. We ended up sweeping that pesky team for the first time this season. I shot my highest set of the season with games of 258-247-267.

(I kind of knew it was going to be a good night when I left a Greek Church on my very first ball of the evening.....and then made the spare! Only my second time ever doing that!)

This also proves that adage about surface being 70% of all ball reaction, as being correct! It felt really good to end the season on a high note, and also allow us to possibly jump in the standings.  ;)

Now, it's tournament time!

It also proves the adage that ball maintenance is required more often than most bowlers think.  Not saying you didn't maintain your equipment, but a refresh is required quite often to maintain optimum performance.

You are so spot on about that maintenance thing! I had kind of taken this ball for granted, while constantly cleaning and prepping other pieces regularly.

Gratz man.  Never even seen that in person.  If had to guess would say there are probably 10 to 20x more 300s thrown than greek church pickups.   Even PBA guys pick that up less than 1 in 100 tries.
Kind of noob when made this account so take advice with grain of salt.

Thanks man! I was really surprised when it happened! I usually just get the wood....but this time, I was a little upset that I even left it, so I threw the ball harder than normal, and I aimed at the ten pin with my strike ball!

It just barely held on to hit the ten pin, but it tipped left at the very last second, and that tip is what sent all those pins left and off the wall to carry everything!

Folks yelled like I had just bowled a 300 or something!! I was surprised, for sure!

Nice topic.

My Monday league just finished up and next week is sweeps. We did horrible and just couldn’t rub 2 sticks together for 2 weeks in a row all season. We have 4 quarters of 8 weeks each and you need to win a quarter to make the roll offs. Winning a quarter adds a grand to each team member.

But my team did great Monday and took 19 of 25 points. Not sure why but I personally wanted to go out on a high note. Next Monday is sweeps with brackets and side pots and then awards.

Nice job on the pickup! And the surface change.

WOW! That's a heck of a league you guys bowl in!! A grand??? Momma Mia!! Good timing and great bowling! Hope you can keep it up.....would be a monster payday if your momentum continues!

$1,000 each for winning a quarter? Damn, I'd be happy in mine if it meant an extra $250 each
