Title: Women with balls
Post by: Hannah G on April 22, 2008, 10:51:26 AM
So, I've seen what the "men" throw..(16 pound balls) and what the "duds" throw..(15 pound balls).  What weight do the women out their throw?  Me, personally, I throw 14's.  I feel that they hit and carry well and I can throw them faster and with more control than if I tried to throw a 15.  Just curious.

My wife uses 15 pound stuff. In fact my wife has one of my old balls (bowling) in her current line up.

Bowl with whats more comfortable...why put strain on heavier weights
My wife started with 12s but her carry wasn't all that great...she moved to 13 mid season seems to be the better weight for her and a little better carry

my wife is 5'2 115lbs...she throws 15 now and averages 190's. Funny thing was we were talking about trying 14 over the summer. Mainly to get a bit more speed...shes about 14.5, really like to see more mix and speed up to at least 15.5.

My wife and daughter throw 14's and that's a comfortable weight for them. Ball weight is a personal thing based on physical characteristics and limits.

Those women with sport bowling ambitions I know either use 14 or 15 lbs. A friend of mine came from 10 lbs house balls, then started fingertip bowling with 12 lbs. and then made a move to 14 lbs., inheriting her friends old equipment after we stepped up to 15 lbs. She uses a wrist brace, though, but it works pretty well, and with a proper fit the weight is no real problem.

I used 16 "back in the day" when my wrist would stand it.
Dropped to 15 about 11 years ago, 14 two years ago.
Both drops were injury related.

I really liked 15 pounds - but needed to go to 14 because of shoulder problems.

Most women try to use stuff too light for them, and then wonder why they have no control. Then, when they do go to the heavier weights, tend to go TOO heavy.
Sigh.

What dizzy said..

Most of the girls/women around our area throw 14 or 15 lbs.. My girlfriend threw 14 lbs when i met her 5 years ago, she shortly after went up and now makes 15 lbs look light in her hands.. Especially after i fitted her for a shorter, more relaxing grip..

my gf and her sisters all use 14lb stuff, they do good with carry. Sometimes leaving a lot of 7's (right handed) just don't have enough speed but they do well..

Would that be like Thomas (http://"http://abcnews.go.com/Health/story?id=4581943&page=1")???

My guess would be between 12lb and 15lb mainly for "serious" bowlers.  Simply because I believe 16lb is too heavy for most bowlers (male or female) and below 12lbs, equipment (or very little if some do exist) does not have dynamic cores.

Bowled with a girl that made men quiver and quake.  Hot pants, body from heaven and a scalpel, tan toned, feminine and fit.

She shocked me when she told me she bowled with 16.

I'm glad I never had to bowl her in a finals.  Many a normal 200 average guy shot 120s against her in finals.  I guess one could say they were....distracted!
