It was interesting that they ran a delayed broadcast in a prime-time slot.  It had actually aired live on ESPNU on whichever evening the finals actually took place (I want to say Sunday but I've slept since then).

ETA. And for what it is worth, while I thought some of CDB's comments were offbase (you know, trying to make some of those really horrible shots seem like they weren't that far off), I was actually impressed with Beth Mowins (sp?) in the other side of the booth.  For someone that I don't think had done bowling telecasts before, she didn't do too bad...

So this was the really bad bowling they aired on ESPNU? So I can go ahead and just delete it off my DVR. The setup chick on one of those teams could really throw the rock though, I have no idea why she wasn't anchor. Whatever teams was wearing white, I don't know or care, but she could bowl.

I have found bowling BAKER style on TV to always be the worst form of the sport whether men or woman.  No one seems to get in a groove.  Put it on tough conditions even worse!

I can think of no events televised more detrimental to the sport than these low scoring events IF this was another one(I try not to watch).

If a public relations firm saw some of these 158-147 fiascos from the past on TV they would laugh and ask if someone was trying to kill the sport INTENTIONALLY!

Lucky nails it...Baker format just is not good television.  It would be different if many of them turned out to be events with consistent execution of shots using a variety of styles, which would then give credence to the position that you don't have to be textbook to score well, but the fact they people were not executing on a regular basis just made for some ugly television...

I'd rather see trios bowling a best of three sort of format...conceivably even a five-member team could do a best of three with the two-hour block that ESPN gave them but that would be pushing it.

Remember this is only NCAA Teams.
IMO there are better bowlers outside of NCAA, and ALOT better teams. Bowlers don't want to go through all the restrictions and stupid rules the NCAA has, so they go elsewhere.

Wait 'til this weekend for Nationals.. you'll see some damn good bowling!

We know that the show was not representative of the talent pool, but the masses flipping channels with their cheeto-stained fingers who stumble across ESPN while enroute to High Stakes Poker on the Game Show Network don't know that...

Yeah, I just realized that this wasn't even the ITC so these teams are just recognized by the NCAA. That doesn't mean anything to their quality, the best teams in the nation are heading to Kansas as we speak.

Does anyone know if that might ever be on TV?

Yeah I refute my previous statement, womens collegiate bowling is sooo boring, and its annoying that they high five each and every person on every freaking shot.

Yeah, the one girl left the 1-2, and then missed them both. And, then high-fived her whole team.

i think you guys are being kind of hard on these girls. sure they didnt bowl that well, but there is a lot of pressure on them and the lanes are tough! and it is a team so if someone JUST ONE PERSON is off it can throw off the whole game. i dare a lot of you guys to get a 5 person team and go compete with these girls...on the shot and see how you do. college patterns break really quickly and they call for drastic changes in hand positions and all that other good stuff...

i guess im just saying dont be so hard on them, you werent there bowling on the lanes so you cant say you would do any better or any worse....

good job girls. and good luck to everyone at the ITC should be an interesting year, im thinking 3 peat by sagnasty...but the dark horse of whitewater...watch out

So as to not hijack this thread, I've taken my comments regarding a post above to another thread.

I vote this "dumbest most ignorant post of the year".

I'm sorry to say this, and it's going to get alot of negative comments but the college womens bowling on TV was down right awful bowling.

When I think of the National NCAA Championship, I think of two teams that have have the cream of the crop when it comes to female bowling talent. I envision women bowlers - Kelly Kulick, The Dorin sisters, Dianda Asbaty, Leanne Barrett..etc. At the college championship level, I envision women that throw a good 3/4 roll, decent ball speed, accuracy that can hit a target and play a tougher condition..etc..

The bowlers on those two schools couldn't hit a board side of a barn. Some of the shots were down right terrible. These are the two best college teams since they made it to the finals?

Maybe they should just bowl on something more wide open so the girls that spin the living daylights out of the ball can get it to move a board or two.

It looked like your typical night of house bowlers. Supper Spin Deluxes, Shots pulled 2 1/2 arrows, a billion cross overs..etc..etc.

If there was still a womens pro tour, I couldn't envision any of those girls to be able to compete at that level.

Is this what the college level of players has to offer? Are there only handful of girls who have gifted skills and thousand others that don't have much at all?

I apologize if I've offended anybody who bowled on the TV telecast or are involved in Womens NCAA bowling, but I wasn't wow'ed by the display this evening.
