Yes, as long as the linage isn't ridiculous.

Sure, I usually end up breaking about even what I put in versus what I get back. I've seen leagues with top weighted prize money ruin alot of leagues because the lower teams drop out.

In my area, lineage is ridiculous, jackpots/brackets are small, so NO.

Sure, if all I had to pay was lineage and secretaries fees. $9.00 for lineage and $.50 for secreatary= $9.50 a night.

Heck, I might bowl two nights a week at that rate!

The point of my thread was to get you thinking about the real differences between a Professional and an Amateur.

Do you bowl leagues for money? Not counting sidepots etc.

Do you bowl tournaments for money?

Would you bowl a tournament for prestige only?

If bowling were to follow golf's lead in the area of how to distinguish between a a Pro and an AM, then all leagues, tournaments, city tournaments, Nationals, would have strict limits on the amount of money that a non-pro can earn. Over and beyond that limit must be merchandise only.

I bowl to win.

If I make a little coinage in the process, it's a bonus.

Problem is, there are some of us out here that DON"T bowl for money, period.

If I go bowl, it is for the pure fun and enjoyment that I get from it and the challenge I have is from me.  To get better, to learn something new, to spread the game/sport as much as I can.  Heck, I don't even get in side pots or high game pots.  To me, it ain't about the money.

And, yes, I would bowl a tournament purely for the prestige of winning, that is why I got into bowling.  To be competitive and challenge my skills, improving them to the point that I COULD win.  If any money comes of it, fine, I wouldn't turn it down, but the money ISN'T what would motivate me.

You're not the problem Jugg, you're the solution. If everyone were like you, then it would be easy to shut the door on leagues and tournaments that pay out money.

The problem is that there are 1000s of people who sandbag and take advantage of the system to make money without becoming a professional.

I would like to make it against the rules to bowl for any kind of real money without being considered a Professional. In my opinion this is the number one reason that Pro's get no respect and are bowling for almost nothing.

I'm with Juggernaut on this one.  I do it strictly for the fun and to better my game by competing.  To be honest, I don't even know what the payout is for the one league I'm on.  I didn't care enough to ask.

Oh, O.K., I see where you're headed now .  I see your point, reflected in the ENORMOUS salaries of professional baseball, football, basketball, etc.... players who don't really love the game or even like playing, their just really talented and only playing for the money.

I always thought that, IF I wanted to bowl for money, I would turn pro. Amatuers in leagues shouldn't be worried about trying to make money.

Now, high roller tournaments where there are LARGE entry fees and sponsors?  I think that, if you want to pay that much for a special tournament that is set up for that specific purpose, then yes, you should make money doing that, but NOT in regular tournaments and leagues.

Jugg, High Rollers and tournaments of the like have kept many great bowlers from wanting or NEEDING to become pro. That is a real problem. The Professional level of the game/sport should be the ONLY place ANYONE can make real good money.

These alternate levels of bowling (semi-pro, professional Amateur etc.) have drained the competitive spirit right out of scratch bowling. The ultimate goal of a bowler should be the Professional level. Not High Rollers, TAT, ABTA, etc.

I would (and do)
I wish all leagues would adopt this policy.
