Would You Pay???
« on: October 03, 2004, 04:01:31 AM »
All--Would you pay to use this site?

In the past, if memory serves this has come up.  Site problems now seem the worst I can remember.  If the site owner was receiving renumeration from the site users would this stop these problems from excisting?  I would think for the most  part.....yes as the site owner would have a vested interest, which he does not seem to have as it sits now.  I have no idea how much the sponsors listed to the left are paying the site owner but if I was a sponsor and saw what was happening lately on this site I'd pull my sponsorship.

I remeber 'Bones purchasing a Lane #1 ball because they did sponsor this site awhile back.  I don't hear many users of this site say in many posts that one should say use MGBowling.com because they sponsor the site or any other sponsors for that matter.

Scott Scriver when he ran the site tried to get many of us to use Virtual Tournaments and many did as it was a  way of paying Scott back for the use of the site.

Would you pay the site owner say $10, $15, $20/year to use the site?

I do believe the site owner and not some moderator needs to police and run the site.  I for one would have no problem paying for annual use if it was a well run site.

How do others feel?

That was my point.  I wouldn't expect anyone nor would I pay for anything as sloppily run as BR is run now.

One other thought, I came up with last night.

It seems to me the users that really should pay a user fee are the users that  use the Wanted, For Sale, Trades portion of this forum.  I'm sure many of these users which I have been one in the past would pay a small nominal fee to be able to do their transactions.  Sure is way cheaper than eBay.  It's dang cheap now NOTHING!

I have to tell you the more I think about it the more I like it.  If you have to pay for each name we can get rid of the trolls.  If you have to pay for each name with repurcusions coming for poor behavior you would get rid of half the bad apples cause they are cheap and half cause they can't help themselves cause they have to be rude little "kids" no matter their age.  I Know having been a gold member though without strict guidlines of how it will be before I sign up and give any money though I would not give them a dime.  Shoot the staff has already allowed a lot of good posters to be run off why not continue the trend.

To add to what PhireX said:

*Fix the %$#*# techinal problems this site constantly has. Especially right now.

Some people can say what they want about Scott and the $25, but we never had all of the technical problems with Scott as we do today and when there was one, Scott "got on it" and got it corrected right away. And........ if you wrote Scott about something, you got a reply as well as explaination. When you write the current owner of this site, you won't and don't get a reply.

It is/was Bruce Hamilton.

As far as any of our suggestions are concerned....since no site owner steps up it's ALL a mute point or points anyway.

I wish I had the time and where with all puter smarts to start and maintain a bowling website.

I'd gather sponsors to help off set the maintenance of the site.

These sponsors would also kick in free equipment from time to time.

I'd allow all site users to use the site free but I would also have a higher level membership for those that wanted it.  These higher level members would be put in a monthly drawing for free equipment.

Last but not least I'd moderate the site daily answer any questions and keep spammers and the unruly from using the site.

ONLY rule of site usage would be act and post like you would want others to do unto you.  A mature intelligent person does not have to flame others.

If payment were in something akin to the Gulled Membership of yore, no, there's no way I'd pay.  I'd be reluctant to pay anything directly, but it's not out of the question.  I do think it might be a good idea for those who buy and sell here to pay a small commission as a user's fee.

the only way I would pay for any site if it served a purpose.
I would expect a few things from a pay site.

If used equipment is to sold and purchased, I would like to see a payapl usage like ebay.

I would like the forum to be adults, as to many junior babble all day.
I would like moderators to do one thing only. remove useless threads from topics. not censor them but when someone posts something stupid like following example( many times)

" I not sure but such and such should answer soon" these are a garbage posts and waste my time reading them.

they should also remove useless reviews, like "I shot 6000 with this ball with no practice".

I would like to have preference that let me choose sections that the latest posts show.

ear mark balls so that when they are review they show up on a list.

I would like to links to equipment manufacturer sites.

I would expect deals from sponsors links.

a chat sessions with honored guests.

all users must use there real names. no aliases. there is no need for that.

for a pay site, I would expect a professional site not this glorified BBS.
