IQ Tour, X2, and Magnitude 035.
« on: January 26, 2018, 12:18:05 AM »
Just looking to hear comparisons between the X2(900 Global), IQ Tour(Storm), and Brunswick Magnitude 035. I'm aware that there are others, but mostly focused on these three. Figured it can't hurt to pick up another control piece in the lower differential side of things. Worse case scenario, it will help me cash at tournaments if I have no look with anything else.

Threw a friend's X2 recently, and it was very smooth. I don't remember seeing the IQ Tour this smooth in my hands. I knew what the IQ Tour was going to do when I last had one, but it was no where near as smooth as the X2 was. Perhaps it was the surface and layout combo.

Throw the new Intel from Radical in there as well.  Numbers are similar with what you have here.  Everybody makes something that is meant to be "controlled".  It's just a matter of what you match up with best.

Not really a comparison here but...

IQ Tour is a proven winner - I've had 2 and still keep one in the bag for sport shots.

However, I like new toys.  New toys are fun.  Sounds like the X2 would fit the a spot in your bag that you feel is lacking.

And not to pick on you but "worse case scenario, it will help me cash at tournaments if I have no look with anything else" bowling balls don't exist.  I understand the concept but I just don't buy it.  There are too many good bowlers who don't cash these days, even when they have a look.

Is that only for control balls or would that apply to specialty balls too like urethane?  Aren't there some real nasty tournaments where urethane and even plastic is needed like the BTM tourney (or maybe it was another one)?  Rare I know.

Bowling is a game of matching up equipment to condition.  If that means using urethane, plastic or in the case of Brian Valenta using rubber to win a regional title, by all means, go for it.  Bowling balls are tools to be used - sometimes a urethane/plastic/rubber ball is going to be the best option and the best way of matching up.  There will be days an IQ Tour/X2/Magnitude 035 are going to be the best options...

My nitpick was more about thinking one is going to cash on a condition that they can't match up with in today's game and thinking a control ball was going to keep them in the hunt.  There are just too many good bowlers who do find a way to match up and can score at will.

That is a fair point. I mean mostly that a control ball (different from urethane or short pin to PAP) could be helpful if I start to lose my look and it's more about grinding a game or two out  as opposed to looking for a big 250 (not that it isn't possible, but not expecting that out of it). I'm aware that it won't give me a cashing spot, but certainly can be a tool that will allow me to match up more frequently.

Probably should just drill another IQ Tour since I've shot pretty well with the two I used quite a bit in the past.

In terms of overall smoothness, I'd say the X2 is the smoothest. The Mag 035 next smoothest, and then comes the IQ Tour.

That being said, it seems as if the IQ Tour has the biggest backend pop, with the Mag very, very close behind.

But when you're playing broken down patterns and all you want to do is get the ten pin out.....what does it matter! All three will get the job done!
Some days you're the bug....some days you're the windshield...that's bowling!
