Consistent but frustrated
« on: March 07, 2006, 12:21:12 AM »
I’ve had what seems like a strange year in my handicap league. I have bowled all 27 weeks so far.

It has an easy house shot. I’ve had no problem all year hitting the pocket. Consistent carry has been my big issue all year. I feel that I have shot spares better than in past.

I’m currently averaging 223. My low set is 632 my high set is 710, low game 183 high game 278.

I seem to have one game a night, not always the same game, that I leave 5 ten pins and can only muster a game around 200 then the other games are ok but my chances at big strings get busted up by single pins.

It feels good in some sense to shoot consistent but frustrating in that I can’t seem to breakout and have a big set. Adding to this frustration is that last year I carried like gangbusters in the same league.

Oh well rant off.

Wise words...

Just an additional idea of mine: it's probably an entry angle problem due to lane changes. You have a line, can hold it perfectly, and then the lanes starts to change... probably just a small adjustment can do the trick for you, just 1/2 board left or right or 2 or 3" closer/further away from the foul line. I suppose you only need a marginal change for the ball's pin impact to carry the 10 pin again.

Hope this helps, too?

Sawbones – I’m happy with the average. It’s higher than I deserve. I’m really such a hack.

I have moved around some (about 5 boards at the arrows) and used some different balls some that are straighter some that hook more. But I always seem to end up with the same results. It develops into a tube shot so that I can’t swing it too much and get it to recover.

Lately I’ve gone to a more aggressive ball and started throwing about 1mph faster. It seems to have helped as I have shot a couple 700’s but still get dinged by single pins enough to stop a big score.

The season is about over (5 weeks left) and I can go to golfing on Monday’s so it will all be well soon.

Ron's finger dancing tip works very well for changing your carry without making big moves on the lane.
