Can't decide on what to do about leagues this year
« on: August 04, 2007, 04:38:54 AM »
I have moved from a crappy alley to a good one. I bowled at that old crappy alley for about 13 years and I averaged a 191 this last year in a youth league. This summer league I am averaging about a 200. I should be averaging about a 210 but I had a few rough weeks where I shot a 420 something and a couple of weeks in the 500s - 550s.

The house I currently bowl at has synthetic lanes and the pin carry is good. The house I used to bowl at has wood lanes and the pin carry is ok to below par.

My question is that my friends from the youth league want to do an adult league so that I can be on their team again. I tried talking to them to come over to the place where I have started bowling, but they want to stay at the house with the harder shot.

If I bowl in a league at the place where I used to bowl (harder shot), and the place where I bowl now (easier shot). Will that screw me up at all? My mom keeps saying that she doesn't want me to bowl at the older place because she is convinced that it will mess me up. I tell her that the pros bowl in different places every week, but she still isn't convinced. Then I try to tell her that bowling in a house with a harder shot would be good for me, but she still wasn't convinced. I'd ask my dad about this, but he couldn't care less about what I do.

I'm gonna be doing one of three things:

1- Bowl a Tuesday night league at the place I used to bowl at (hard shot), and then a Friday night league at the place where I bowl at now (easier shot).

2- Bowl a Tuesday night league at the place I bowl at now (easier shot), and then a Friday night league at the place where I bowl (easier shot).

3- Bowl a Friday night league at the place where I bowl now (easier shot), and the a PBA Experiance league if they have one at the house where I bowl now (easier shot).

I am gonna do one of these three things, but I just don't know which yet.

One thing that I forgot to add was that the house with the harder shot has old ball returns and lanes. Everything at the house where I used to bowl is kinda old and run down.

I agree with portside. Bowling at various houses will test your game and make you more versatile. If it were me I'd bowl at each center making sure I got in the larger more competitive leagues. I bowl at 3 different centers just for the experience and I routinely travel to others for the practice knowing every center is different. If you bowl at one place exclusively I think it limits your ability to adjust.

Bowl on as many conditions as you can.

I routinely practice at other places just to become familiar with what works best.  When a customer comes in and says where they bowl their leagues, I can usually recommend a ball that will give them their best chance...

I would suggest the same as the others, bowl at both houses.  The tougher shot will help build a strong mental game as well as building versatility.
