ABC rules
« on: September 16, 2004, 06:21:50 AM »
I’m probably beating a dead horse here but the war isn’t over yet.

One of my leagues has a delegate to submit ideas to the USBC.  I’ve already given him our other proposals.  You might want to check with your local association and see if they are doing the same thing.  Maybe with enough input the new management might put some changes in place.

Going thru the rule book, I found another rule that just doesn’t make sense any longer.

Altering the surface of the ball (sanding).

A few years back I got a letter from the ABC that stated the reason was roughing the surface of the ball damaged the lanes.  They weren’t able to give me an explanation of why sanding it before competition started didn’t damage the lanes but during it did.

Anyhow, isn’t that a mute point now.  Afterall, we now have balls comprised of diamond particles.  I just can’t imagine how anything I do to a ball can do any more damage than that.

There’s a few other rules that no longer make sense but this post is already long enough.
Please add your suggestions with the reason the rule isn’t valid and any other changes I can take to my delegate.

I like the way you DON'T give up SrK!

I'll be filling the ears of our local delegate.  So, tired of our local leader but I doubt it's gonna change cuz he's something like 6th Vice-President in line and is waiting it out.  Drags our whole local down the tubes because of it...maybe the district USBC might be some how different.  I'm not holding my breath though.

While I agree that the rule doesn't make sense (sanding during competition) I was thinking it might be due to people not wiping the dust off of the ball completely and then throwing the ball, allowing the dust to stick to the lanes.  I don't know what kinda damage we are talking, but you could argue that would change the reaction of the lane.

Aren't you still allowed to use rubbing alchohol DURING an event though?  Cuz that could damage the lanes as much as residual dust from a ball, or at least alter it somewhat

yeah, it kills me to see a guy think he's sneeky by putting the scotchbrite in his bowling towel.
