WOW - Women's honor score numbers
« on: February 20, 2005, 05:02:45 AM »
I just got my latest issue of the WIBC magazine.
Here's the stats:
1,157,308 wibc members
1,020 approved 300 games
481 approved 299 games
215 approved 298 games
and
200 approved 800 series.

To toot my own horn, one of those 800s was mine.
That puts me in the top 0.00017%.
Even I'm impressed!!!

Son bowled in youth tournament this weekend.. two females made top 5... son  was 2nd after 18 games of qualifying with +698... Top was female at +777 and 4th was female at +540 (was sons girlfriend). Son shot 300 game and needed first hit in 10th for 800 and flushed a 7 - 10 in pocket to shoot 779. Son ended up wining in the step ladder but his g/f shots 2 @ 279 games and one of them was against son in round robin when son shoots 259.

All I am gonna say is that women can bowl. There used to be separation between men and women but todays game it clearly is not that way.

At any one time, you are absolutely right - women CAN compete with men. Not necessarily over long format tournaments, and certainly not on those shots where lofting the gutter cap at 25 MPH is required.

But my point was - there were close to 40,000 300 games bowled by abc members last year. There were 1020 300 games bowled by wibc members last year.

An honor score by a woman is still a very rare thing.

There were 200 total 800 series by women last year. Rev-O has probably had close to that this year alone!!!

Might we attribute at least some of that to the dearth of truly competitive women bowlers competing only in WIBC?  I know several upper-echelon women that haven't sanctioned WIBC in a couple of years since city and state tournaments started to get away from division-based scratch formats.

I know that I won't have a WIBC sanction this year until I get to Tulsa...if I even go.

I know a lot of better women bowlers who bowl in men's leagues and are sanctioned by the abc, that might scew the statistics also.
