Really dry lane ball

Whats a good ball for "really" dry lanes.  The house I'm bowling in this summer has set up a shot with
an out of bounds to the right of the second arrow, some oil to the left of the 12 or 13 board and no
oil in the backends.  I have tried everything I've got.  The only thing that I can keep right of the head
pin is my plastic spare ball.  I would throw it all the time but it does not create enough pin action.

My proshop says the new Ebonite Tornado Warning might be just what I'm looking for.  They did
not recommend the new V2 Dry.  From what they said, its close to a plastic ball and has very
little backend.

I'm a senior bowler with slow to medium speed.  I've been using a Savage Pearl and a Blue Sparkle
Tornado with a lot of shine.  Both of these hook too much.

Any help would be appreciated.

Maybe a Roto Grip Sonic X. It's differential is really low .020 and tweak the cover stock if it is too strong in out of box condition.

Or maybe even urethane. A Columbia Black Messenger.
At least urethane is stronger than plastic.

Storm also makes (made) a Flame urethane ball. Don't know alot about it.

Also Columbia has a new I believe it is called a Ruby Red Scout ? that is urethane.
Alledgedly the same or very similar to the old Columbia Black U Dot.

Strong plastic wouldbe a Lane 1 XXXl. Strong core on plastic.

I have seen where the V2 dry is only recommended for those with alot of hand or
very slow ball speed.

I have found that the Dyno-Thane Barrage seems to need an infinite amount of dry before it will make the turn when I drilled the ball with a 1:30, cg at dead center and pin under the ring finger. I normally use the mildest balls possible, with the Pro Purple Buzzsaw being my OILER! even on the Storm Sports Challenge at Knoxville.

The barrage has more length than a pearl urethane and the least backend of EVERY other resin ball, even less than my previous champion, the Storm Blue Hot Flame. (I ignore pancake, REAL 3 piece cores, as almost ineffectual in hitting power.)

There is but ONE ball of choice, and that is the XXXL.  The only other choice would be the new Urethane SAW that is coming out in August, BUT I would still add the XXXL to that, which would make an unbeatable dry lane duo. JMHO!!

If you have really torched lanes, there isn't anything that will work except for plastic, and then it still might be too much.  I can remember tournaments where I played 5th arrow with my White Dot, and it hooked like a Cherry Bomb.  I can play 4th arrow at my home house with a regular Hit, and that's at about 16+ mph.  Lol, I know dry.  XXXL is the way to go.  Picking one up for myself very soon!

thedjs.......would think you need to get away from your proshop.......wouldn't plastic be a good choice for lanes that are very dry??? or am I just missing something.......little backend would be a good thing if the lanes are doing all the work for you........if you have alot of backend + the lanes making the ball hook...= what you have now.........

Go plastic......White Dot is a steal......Storm Big Hit Pearl....something not very strong at all..Would agree with Zman other than the Sonic X...would be too strong I think........and if you got too much money burning a hole in your pocket and have nothing better to spend it on.......go get a Lane 1 XXXL.....;-)

Maybe changing to a weak ball isn't the way to go.  Just change the release to something a lot more unorthodox.  Get rid of all the forward roll.  Throw more than 90 degrees of side turn and just slide the ball.  With lanes that dry it works.

White Dot any Dot does not compare to the XXXL and thats mainly due to the core.  Thge core in the XXXL gives you much better carry.  Black messanger on dry?  I didn't see it.  I think depending on how dry the old Hammer urethanes are great.  Blue Pearl, Red Pearl and the Pink when very dry.  Sonic X on dry lanes, another tough sell unless you got some good head oil.  But honestly, I have seen good bowlers adjust with the Mutant, a hooik monster and throw on dry lanes and score well.  I'm not that good.

All good advice .. some of the mentioned balls are PRETTY EXPENSIVE.

I'm also a senior and have some GREAT bowling balls. Of all that I have I favor TWO for DRY LANES they are:WARRIOR/AFTERBURNER. Whenever I head for LEAGUE or TOURNAMENTS I have one of them with me for when the lanes break/down or are DRY.

I think you can still get either one of these balls (reasonable in price)and if you do .. you will use them QUITE OFTEN.
