Helped a friend tonight (thumb comfort)
« on: October 14, 2009, 05:41:10 PM »
Well my buddy has been wanting to up his average all summer long and would like to average 200+. He just got both his ball's plugged and redrilled, just the thumb hole's. Brunswick Twisted Fury Solid and Hammer Black Widow Pearl. I gave him the Black Widow Pearl cause I felt he needed a solid and pearl in the bag. Anyway, tonight he was struggling during practice and most of the 1st game. I noticed his thumb was turning red and starting to swell up a little. That told me he was gripping the ball which meant thumb hole's too big. So I decided to be a coach to him tonight. 1st I took both ball's and added 2 peice's of 3/4" white tape and placed it in the the ball. He threw which ever one he was using and liked the new feel. Said he didn't have to squeeze as much as before. Okay great! I wasn't done, I cut him a strip of that stretch tape that you put on your thumb as another form of taping and put it on his thumb. He threw the ball and went into the gutter, I warned him the ball might fly off his thumb like it did before the frame came up. By this point it's game 2 frame 3.

He shot 164, 208, 197 for 569. His average was 171, after tonight it went to 176. He's been increasing his average each week with minor adjustment's in his game, 2 week's ago he finally purchased a plastic ball. His average jumped from 160 to 171 in 2 week's. He want's to rival me on the lane's and that's awesome because it would be a great time to have someone that I can say bring it on too!

Sorry, was happy for my buddy and I'm kinda bored.
