sore ring finger
« on: November 11, 2003, 03:17:12 AM »
I urgently need help. 10 weeks ago I converted from conventional grip to fingertip.  My ring finger was too sore after 4 games to bowl again for at least two days. Had the thumbhole moved 1/2" futher out and it helped a little. Next the fingertips were repitched (angled away from the thumb hole) and that helped some more. I can now bowl several days in a row, but in moderate pain.  My average has dropped more than 20 pins using fingertip vs. conventional and improvement is coming very slowly.  Any suggestions? Thank you for your help.

I remember when I converted to finger tip and my ring finger hurt like hell and I had pulled muscles in my hand and wrist.  Problem is those muscles are only used when bowling.  But after 10 weeks it should be ok.  I kept bowling with and it eventually got used to it and no problem now.  Once you get used to it the avg. will improve.

I would recommend that they plug your ring finger and without changing your span, ask them to drill your ring finger away so that there is less stress on the ring finger.  Not expensive and you'll feel the difference right away.  But you won't quite get the lift on the ball you are now, but al least you should be able to bowl, strengthen the muscles and maybe go back to the original drilling later in the year. IMHO.
