You don't have to know the ball/drilling side of it. There are a number of touring players that don't know squat about bowling balls. At least there sure used to be before the exempt tour.
If you have a good pro shop/driller and he/she can be trusted to help you, then let them worry about all the drilling stuff.
If you are not having problems with your grip, then don't worry about that either, keep a copy of your specs in your wallet in case you want to get a ball drilled while out of town.
What you SHOULD learn is the physical game. That is what ALL the Tour Players and top regional players know. Most of those guys are so good, it doesn't matter what ball, etc... they can flat out make shots, repitiously!! Learn fundamentals, lane play, how to change hand position, ball speed, revs etc... Every time you learn a new trick, and know when to use it, you just mulitplied your arsenal by another number, because you can make every ball do something different than before.
I tell my customers all the time, there is no magic layout, there are no mystical drillings or special bowling balls. Fundamentals and good fitting balls are the most important things. It doesn't matter if you own every Inferno, every Action, and every X Factor, if you can't get them off your hand the same way twice, then you have alot of wasted money. Get your grip right and work on learning to make great shots! Then you will be a PLAYER instead of a bowler.
