You would be a great bowler if ?

You would be a great bowler if ?

Have your ever had anyone walk up to you during;practice, league
or a tournament and say.In a backhanded way,you would be a great
bowler if you would only! "Insert tip that you did not ask for."

I was practicing about 14 years ago, after being out of bowling for 5 years
because of a torn tendon in my wrist. Now mind you, this injury
was so bad, that I still had only about 70% strength in my right hand
5 years after the injury. At this point I'm working on my timing
and my speed. Now only having 70 % strength in the wrist, it was
hard to roll the ball without have a flat wrist position at the bottom
of my swing. So this guy walks up and says that I would be a good
bowler if, I would only learn to put more "fingers and revs" on
the ball ,because the hitting power of such a weak release was
going to keep me from becoming a better bowler.
I told the guy as nicely as possible that I had not bowled in 5 years,
and I had a weak wrist, and was trying to just work on items
in my game as slow as possible ,without putting undo strain on my
wrist.Even after telling him this,he still tells me I need to learn
to increase my ball speed also.At this point I had enough, and just said
yes I know and said thanks.I then just walked away and went to the
pro shop ,and started working on my equipment for a while hoping he
would leave and I would not have to be rude. After about 10 minutes
of further practice the guy packed up and started to leave, but
before leaving he comes into the pro shop to give me tips on ball speed,
revs and timing. At this point I almost lost it,but I just listened,
smiled, and said thanks.I tried to be a nice person, but when is it
proper to tell someone that you know what you are doing and to just
say thanks then ignore them ?

And it seems like willingness to offer unsolicited advice is often inversely proportional to the "advisor's" actual bowling ability...

Today is all about the hook. More revs more speed more boards covered. Two hands if you can't do it with one.

I have above average revs that come in handy sometimes, other times it is the ability to not have as much that is just as great.

The guy you talked with falls into the category of most today and thinks that we all would bowl better if we threw the ball like Sean Rash, Tommy Jones, or ect.

The keys of the sport are consistancy, and the ability to spare. That is often over looked by many bowlers for more hook.

This was well said. revs is way to much about the game these days. I can't even fathom how many times i have been in a pickle wanting half the revs I had, because those poeple were scoring great.
