So far we have a sport shot with a 4-6 game match play.   Anybody have any other good ideas for competitive leagues???

If you want the ultimate, run it like this.

1 man teams.
Position round each week.
4 people per lane.
2 points for everyone on your lane you beat.
2 points for series for everyone you beat on your lane.

For example:
bowler 1 is high for the game.  He gets 6 points, he beat 3 people
bowler 2 get 4 points, he beat 2 people.
bowler 4 gets no points for coming in last.

Every shot becomes important.  Even if #1 guy is running away from the field, the other 3 are still battling for points.

SrKegler, is there anything like a roll off for this idea?

I know of a doubles league, bowl 3 games on one pair, against one team, then after the 3 games, you move pair and bowl another 3 games against another team.  Each win is 2 points, and the max was 410.  Last I heard the league still had a waiting list.  You have two halfs, and the winner of each has a roll off, and I suggested that there should be two wild cards in and make things more interesting.

How about only being able to use 1 ball

I have even heard talks of a vintage or throwback league........no resin or particle (or epoxy)....only rubber, plastic or urethane equipment.

Not sure what you mean about a roll off unless it was because of the waiting list.  Otherwise it's a roll off every nite.  We only ran it during the summer leagues.  Only got around 40-50 people.

For the past 5 years in our summer sport league, we have used a regressive point system wherein, if there are 30 bowlers, the high series for each night
gets 30 points, second high series 29 points, and so on to the lowest series which gets 1 point.  This scoring system is supported by the Bowling League Secretary software and it makes the prize list easy as we pay based on points won.

Srkegel,

What I meant by a waiting list was a list to join this league, as far as the league I was talking about.  It is a grandfather league and usually everyone comes back, unless they get tired of there partner.

For yours is it a summer long and at the end who ever has the most points wins?

SKBowl,
Try this one out format wise............
A different competition every week. 9 pin no tap one week, regular the next week, mystery doubles another week, etc, etc. That way no one gets bored and there's a chance for everyone average wise to win.
Also,we gave out an award to everyone instead of the best bowler sweeping all the personal awards. This really was well received by the whole league.
Good luck and let us know what you chose and how it turned out.......
