Shock and Awe being to over under? Look Here
« on: June 06, 2005, 11:58:19 AM »
I used this ball out of the box which is rough buff I believe? for 20 games without doing anything to it, I got a nice roll and was able to read many patterns with it.  then I cleaned it, storm reacta clean, which somehow shined it up, which doesn't happen on any of my other stuff.  This caused the ball to become very squirty, I couldn't get a read not to mention roll on the ball.  I thought that the ball just sucks, so I sanded to 800 the ball is awesome now, I can actually control it now! This restored my faith with morich.
Did anybody else find this out too?? Also,
Why does it seem that every time I completely change the surface the ball aka shiny to dull or dull to shiny the ball works better?

Could you actually have gotten the oil to "shine" the ball after 20 games, and not the Reacta-Clean?

its 400 wet sand w/ a compound finish over top, but some are coming more polished than others.......

That's like saying the Labyrinth was "500 grit compounded" - veyr misleading. Once you've compounded it, it's no longer at 400 or 500 grti, wherever it started. ALl resurfaced balls start around 180 grit; so, does that make it right to say they are "180 grit, polished"? No!

The SHock and Awe is, like the Absolute Inferno, at some "hidden" grit level", which is probably closer to something 1000 grit semi-polished, which is as close to the truth as Brunswick or MoRich will let us see.

I know the website say that, but
Not according to what Fred Carroll told me in an email a few years back. I had expressed doubts about the feel of the surface; didn't feel like 500 grit to me. He said it was sanded with 500 grit sandpaper, but then it was finished with a worn green nylon pad. (I'm trying to find that old email for the exact procedure, but it was like 4 years ago.)

How wouldn't be wrong; that's just what the website says and has said all along. As I just added to my reply, I expressed doubts about it based onmy own personal Labyrinth. That was Fred basically Fred Carroll's reply. I just can't find my original email. damn!

Sorry, I did get rid of all my Quantums.  I've been getting rid of a lot of my equipment that has been sitting down there.  I think I have maybe 15 balls that are left.

I had asked Fred the same question, his reply was the best method using a spinner is wet sand to 1000 get. The factory sands to 320 grit then compound finishes the ball which makes it about the same as 1000 grit wet sand finish.

I just touched mine up the other night hitting it with 1000 grit abralon pad to remove surface oil and a few belt marks and then applied 2 drops of 3M compound on top and bottom and obtained the same ball reation as nib.
