Seek & destoy questions
« on: July 30, 2008, 06:18:38 AM »
Ive recently got another S&D (my 3rd), my question is about color and particle load. The 1st 2 have ben black and while you can see the particles its kind of tough. Theis 3rd looks like a color blem gray and splotchy and the particles are very visible. I was just wondering if the gray color is from too much particle load, I dont really care about the color. I havent thrown it yet, probably will tonight. Just curious more than anything, Ive loved the ball OOB so far just wondering if this one will need surface changes.

The grey blotches are not due to the particle load in the ball.  They are called phasing, and I personally am not exactly sure where it comes from.  It is either the finishing process, or the coverstock curing process.  The reason that I can be definitive in saying that it has nothing to do with particle load, is the fact that I have seen reactive stuff with similar phasing.

Whatever the case, I haven't seen any difference in balls with pronounced phasing as compared with stuff without, or with minimal phasing.  To remove such marks, you can use acetone (technically illegal), or you can hit it with some powerful ball cleaner, such as LaneMasters cleaner.

I tried it for a couple shots earlier, it was way too much ball. I dont really care about the color , I was just wondering. Im sure its color blem, its just weird how you can actually see the little particles all over the ball and inside too. Like I said the other 2 Ive had were black. Any way Ill try it tomorrow on the shark and see how it does. My favorite thing about these PBA shots is actually get to mess around with all these balls Ive aquired and see what they do.

BallsDeep hes not talking about the normal phasing from heat & cold..afer you clean it with Acrtone or roll it a couple times, its gone.

Hes talking about the whiteish, or greyish praticle looking stuff thats usually around the label and pin area on this ball.

I had 2 S&D's and they had the same thing...If I find a pic of them I'll post.

Its just normal for this ball
