Drilled a Frenzy....

.....for a customer today.  She bought a Virtual Gravity and a Frenzy.  She wanted the Frenzy to be more arcy and controllable on the backend of the lane.  

Her Stats:
Ball Speed: 16 mph in the heads
Rev rate:  275ish
PAP:  4 7/8> 7/8^
Average:  205

Good player and bowls well on a variety of conditions.

I drilled the Frenzy 65 x 2 1/2 x 45.  I figured the shorter pin placement would give her an early read and the longer MB placement would allow the ball to still stand up on the backend.  Ending statics were 1.5oz of pos side and 3/8 finger.  We have not put a hole in it yet, I told her to throw it Sunday(practice session) and then we can make a determination on the balance hole.

This is my first time following MOs dual angle layout suggestions.  Usually, I just figure out how far the pin and mb should be from the PAP for the desired reaction.  For those with experience, do you think this layout will give her what she is after???

65 for the drilling angle is on the longer side and 45 on the VAL angle is on the quicker sharper  response to friction. That pin distance is in the medium flare range witch is good, plus that cover is pretty strong. JMO.

Andrew,

Have you seen this video on Morichbowling.com, showing Mo and Jack Jurek with the control and the sharp, big hook drillings for both Frenzy and Craxe?

It's on their main page, on the right side with the heading, Ball Motion Videos. It takes a while to download using a fast speed internet connection but I think it will help you get a btter idea about basic drillings.

I think your drilling was probably close but be very careful where you put the weight hole.

I've tried to watch them, but can't access it a work.  Working two jobs, I haven't had the time to watch them at home.  I'll try to remember today after work.

Anyway, that is the reason I waited on the balance hole.  I want to see the current reaction and see if we can tweek it or leave it alone.  I have the gradient line balance hole info printed for reference as well.

She threw the ball today and really liked the motion it gave her.  I put a 7/8" hole in the P2 location per the Gradient Balance hole guidance.

From my standpoint, the ball looked very controllable and smooth overall.  The ball looked to float up front with a stand up move at the breakpoint.  Certainly not aggressive, but a defined move that carried well.  I'll see if I can get some video of it, but it looks very similar to Jureks "control layout" move in the videos.

I was thinking it might be like Jaros control drill and then I was hoping it would be. Good job!

My Solid LevRG with almost a 6" pin to PAP and MB drilled out by the thumb hole has a VERY strong move at the backend, just like Mo predicted. I'd love to get one that behaves more like Jaros's control but have been fearful of that short 2 1/2" pin to PAP. This may give me enough confdence to try it, as soon as I get enough funds to try a Frenzy.

My frenzy is drilled 4 1/2 pin to pap, which for me puts the pin over the ring and up to the right. The frenzy out of box was a ball with length and a nice controllable back end motion. I have since polished it, and now it is a hockey stick motion to the pocket. That leads me to think that the cover was just too strong for houses I bowl in. If you don't have alot of oil, this thing will burn up no matter how weak you drill it. If she desires more hook out of this thing, try throwing some polish over the oob grit, and watch how violent it gets!
