LevRG coverstock adjustments
« on: May 02, 2008, 12:47:46 AM »
Anyone try playing around with the coverstock finish on the LevRG? I'm thinking of taking mine to 2000 Abralon or 4000 Abralon to see if I can get a little more pop on the back. The ball in OOB condition seems to be using up too much energy early right now as the weather has warmed up here in Ohio and the lanes seem to have changed a bit in reaction (gotten drier in the heads, with less carrydown).

My questions are:
Did altering the surface on the LevRG give you more traction and movement on the back end?
Was the coverstock adjustment easy to make (to get the finish smooth and consistent)?
Is it relatively easy to get this ball back to OOB condition?

FYI - I recently gave the ball a hot water bath, so oil absorption is probably not the issue. The ball has roughly 35-40 games on it at this point.

Thanks in advance for your constructive comments.

I have adjusted mine from the 1000 down to 500. I know thats not what your looking to do but mine took the adjustment VERY well and could see a tremendous amount of change in ball reaction.

I did it for the shark pattern to help the ball get into a roll sooner and it did and boy do I love it now. I use it on our THS in practice as well and it really made that ball come alive. Very hard arch to the pocket. starts at the arrows and quits turning when it hits the curtin in the back.

the ball is laid out to roll and thats exactly what happened. So I think if your layout on the ball is strong and not so rolly, a cover change would probably make a pretty decent change in reaction down lane.

How is it drilled?

I put beans sauce right on top of the oob finish. Bal cleared the heads very well and had a nice backend pop on a medium.

Inverted 1 -
Ball is drilled 45 deg. x 4" x 35 deg. (dual angle method). Pin is 3.25", TW was 2.25 oz., no x-hole.
The rest of my specs. are in my profile.

Thanks for the reply. This is obviously what I have been seeing lately - a lack of head oil.

Back to my original post - I am more curious as to how the ball responds to surface changes, and how easy those changes are to make relative to other balls.

Anyone else modify the coverstock finish on their LevRG?

I have my LevRg currently at 2000 abralon, ball is drilled pin left of ring, and slightly above (lefty drilled).  MB is just left of, and below the thumb.  This ball still likes to roll early, but at 2000 it does save some more energy and hit better in the pocket on a THS.  I was having some issues with it rolling up early at 1000 (factory), but I wanted it to still be earlier than my Momentum, and it is a great compliment to that piece.  Good luck.  I am going to take it down to 500 for the Shark also, but the cover on this ball adjusts very easily, as does most MoRich bowling equipment.

The cover on the LevRG takes adjustments well. I sanded mine to various grits, added compound, polish.

Experiment away!
