Title: My Ravage arrived today.....woooooohooooo
Post by: agroves on May 14, 2004, 10:41:01 AM
I went to the shop today to drop off my new/used Time Zone for plugging.  I looked on the floor and what did I see?  My new Ravage.  I have to admit it looks pretty cool.  I believe it was a 3 inch pin out.

Now the question of the day:

How should I drill it?  I can tell you this, it won't be high flare.  I was thinking about the Forward roll or Control layout.  Please feel free to provide suggestions.  Specs in profile.

I would agree with the forward roll control drilling for you.  I would put the pin around 2 1/2" from you PAP and the mass bias in the neighborhood of 6".  Keep the pin somewhat low (about 1" above the mid line).  This will give you the look I think you want.  Realize when you take flare out the balls, you will lose a little of the area that can be created by the ball.  I actually drilled one up just the way I am suggesting to you and one with a lot of flare.  The two complement each other very well.  I know I was going to PM you this stuff, but I thought this seemed easier.  PM or post if you have any other questions.  Thank you very much for the support.

Since it's a Morich core and you don't want high flare (check this out, chun!), you have no choice but to put the pin in the neighborhood of 2-3" from your PAP.
Morich's cores, as stated by Mo himself, will flare a lot in either standard strong pin positions of 3.5-4" from your PAP and in what are normally long pin (low flare) positions of 4.5-5.5" from your PAP. This seems to a property of his core designs.

This would seem to leave you ONLY with a choice of where to locate the MB, 3-4" from the VAL or 5-6" from the VAL.

not at all; my point was that Andrew (agroves) wanted a low flare drilling and
I am fairly certain that is why Morich suggested the 2 1/2" pin position.

See Morich's website; he has 3 basic drillings for each ball, 2 of which are control (2-3" pin position), sharp break (3.5-4", more or less, pin position), which we often refer to as "Stacked Leverage" in symmetric balls,.
