Title: No MoRich in Bowling This Month?
Post by: Sir Bowl-A-Lot on December 14, 2004, 10:01:20 PM
I have never seen a MoRich ball reviewed in BTM.  Why is that?

I say this without prejudice, on one side or the other :

Mo has said, thru someone else's contact with him, that he does not care for the reviews of MoRich balls, as published by BTM.

For my 2 cents, I think that BJI's reviews give an incredible amount of sheer hook to every MoRich ball.

The truth, as always, lies somewhere inbetween.

MoRich prefers to use its money for paid advertising rather than provide test balls to the magazines for reviews.

But every MoRich ball is reviewed by Bowlers' Journal. So that's not exactly the actual situation.

One would believe that maybe there has been a parting of ways as Mo has is not writing any more articles for them either. I too had heard that he stated that he does not believe in sending equipment for review. Mo has always been a bit on the eccentric side anyway.

I definitely miss his articles in BTM.

I also heard he had a "parting of the ways" with Mr. King.

And life goes on.

here, just to stick it a little
these are the reviews from my magazine, i have them on my laptop.

Mo-Rich Total Annihalation

This is the latest creation from the mind at Mo Rich  Mo Pinel.

Using a cover-stock called C4 ReActivated and the core shape now famous from previous Mo releases. A particle free cover-stock devised by Brunswick for MoRich it is coupled with this aggressively tuned Asymmetrical core. As expected this ball is at the high end of the price point, but the performance is exceptional. Incredible amount of track flare and from something that doesn’t burn out in the first 20 feet of the lane. This ball is all about the last 30 feet of that lane. Aiding even the lowest of rev rate bowlers to cover more boards, but now in the backend. Cover tweaks with this ball are encouraged, but it is designed for heavy to mediums, but in reality this is really a good heavy oil ball if you believe in the idea that the best oil balls should move in the backend and not in the earlier section of the lane.

Our tester had tried the previous MoRich balls before and most of them used particle cover stocks, this was his first attempt with this core on a resin ball. He was delighted at how much flare it produced and the area is was creating on even the messiest of backend conditions.

This ball needs oil to save precious energy to really see the backend reaction.  Laying out this ball appropriately is critical. This ball should not be drilled like a typical 2 piece ball because it is not, carefully read the provided drilling sheets, and don’t fear polishing or adjusting this cover stock in anyway. Polished this ball was turning the corner very very hard and hit was impressive.  This ball exhibited track flare in excess of 5 inches in the oil and nearly a total of 8 over the whole lane.

Standing 20 and hitting 10 at the arrows out to 5 at the break point, this tester had a rev rate in the range of 250.  Later able to move farther inside and play 27 to 15 to 7 and ball was still able to carry very well.

This ball was tested on 38ft of buffed oil on a lane pattern with a hang area outside 5. Recommendations: Slop! Serious this ball is best for second shift conditions when they are really weak in the backend.

Weapon of Mass Bias
MO-Rich Box surface is 500 grit matte.

Layout is 4 ½ with MB on VAL.

This is the latest MO-RICH Release that is introducing the new core design called VanGuard. With the same base coverstock as the Total Annihinatlation  the addition of a MO-RICH specific particle increases traction on carrydown and harder lane surfaces. The ball has a box finish of 500 grit. Very low even for a particle ball. So most buyers will likely eventually change the surface. A new Unique core design that appears to have a section or a hole missing from the core shape actually increases dynamics. With every rotation of the ball the core shape is different and now each time the core shape is changing even greater than in the past. The words “ All New” are even marked on the ball to signify that this really is a completely new product from Mr. Pinel.

Reaction: On heavy oil this ball rolls very smooth  with the box finish  and  carry on this ball seems to be exceptional. Even with 500 grit this ball seems to ‘push’ down the lane well, saving more energy than expected. Typically a ball like this would be burning out/ off energy too fast for most house conditions.

Playing on a 43ft flat pattern with no buffing towards the end of the pattern.( Typically on a house condition when you get to the end of the oil pattern there is a lower quanity of oil than in the front part of the lane, this is called a buffed area). This pattern has a tendancy to force players inside, thus creating problems carrying the corners.  With a slight polishing this ball was able to play this area and was able to carry when some could not.

Our tester was standing 35 throwing to 4th arrow and break point was at about 10th board. The ball was able to rev up in the mid-lane quickly but sit in the pocket most of the day.  The breakpoint shape was a sharp hockey stick shape.

Recommendations: Of course oil is very important with this ball. Best for serious players looking for a specific reaction. A strong core and aggressive ball make for a good combination and some serious hit.

Just to clairfy, MoRich does not Advertise with our magazine, but Many other manufacteurs do, including, AMF300, Brunswick, Columbia300, RotoGrip, Storm, Track and Visionary.

MoRich does provide us with product to test.

Dynothane does not as well as Lane 1. They did at one point i believe before i was with the magazine, and i believe azo and lanemaster did submit some product in the past to test.

We presently have started to test the ebonite and hammer products that were just released recently.
