Revs...first impressions...AWESOME
« on: June 16, 2007, 04:02:57 PM »
Just got my new Rev's punched this morning (15.4 gross weight, 3.5oz top, 2-3" pin).  After requesting the sharp break point drilling, my driller punched it slightly different than the sheet: Pin about an inch over the ring, CG swung, MB strong.  No X-hole needed as of yet, but I'm dead money on the legal limit of finger and side weight...may get one put in just to bring some weight out.

After golfing 9 holes, I got to the center that houses my summer league (due to $.50 games all summer for league bowlers) and got placed on a lane.  My colleague was throwing a selection of balls, primarily focusing on a weakly drilled Brunswick BVP Punisher, and a Columbia Messenger Low RG.  I threw only my new Revs.

After a few shots, we realized that it was a moderately fresh THS, medium volume (he's a medium speed-high rev player, so his Punisher was plenty of ball...).  My first shot playing my old favorite line of straight up the 6 board promptly crossed over and slammed into the 2 pin flush.  After converting the spare, I moved left 5 boards with my feet, and my target in two.  I started striking rather regularly after this, finishing the game with a 211.  The second game, I was suffering in carry.  Near the end of the game, I finally realized that my speed needed to drop to really make this ball work.  Too little too late: 199.  Third game was a disaster.  Poor carry (my fault - couldn't stay on line), two splits/washouts, and a missed 4-7 spare due to almost falling on my face at the line led to a 179.  Final game, I decided to grow a pair and play a little swing.  Hitting the line at 27, hitting 11 at the arrows and out to the 4 (ideally), I was slamming the pocket and obliterating the rack as long as I kept my speed down.  A closing 235 for a 4-game of 824 (206 average) made me extremely happy with my purchase.  After all, I'd never thrown Mo's stuff, and this ball was brand new (no track worn in).  I was happy to be anywhere near 200, since all of my previous purchases have yielded poor results until I practiced with them enough to get the feel.

All in all, first impressions: Great ball.  Very happy with my purchase...actually...birthday present :-D
