Title: Target weighting
Post by: snowman4951 on March 14, 2005, 04:38:03 PM
I was talking to someone about the Shock and Awe. They said you need to have it drilled "Target Weighting" technique. What is this?Is this drilling technique just for Morich balls? Thanks!

The short & sweet version...

It is a hole location method that finds the positioning of a balance hole for maximum craterage. In many balls, bigger is better .

It is a technique that will work on any ball, not just Mo's.

my understanding is that target weighting a ball removes side weight and top weight at the same ratios.Mo has a certain targeted(for example target -1/4)this is based on rev rate, tilt, and ball speed. The other option you have is the pitch the weight hole which will add more flare.I have seen in my shop as i keep making the hole bigger it increases the ball reaction. You can target weight any ball. Here is another idea in symetrical ball if put the weight hole down by the thumb and target weight it you can increase the spin time  on a determinator. You can call Freddie at MORICH and can give alot more deatils about target weighting.

PS guys there is a chart that mo has on his cd that tells you how many inches from the center of grip to put the hole.

Precision,

Are finger/thumb weight taken into consideration?  If there is an excess amount of either, drilling the hole straight across from center-of-grip would not help bring it back to legal.

Thanks in advance for your response.

Why do we need to know how to do "target weighing" if we don't know the theory behind it?  We need to understand what this is supposed to accomplish in order to make an intelligent decision as to it's favorable use as a ball setup option.

MoRich Core Tech Members Only - Balance Hole Placement Chart (Updated Nov 13th)
The most effective placement for a balance hole requires removal of either top or bottom weight with respect to side weight in a correct ratio. Once located, use the proper size hole to remove the amount of desired weight.  Note -- Enlarging the diameter of the hole will decrease spin time!

I just drilled a Ravage today.  Pin 2.5 inches from PAP, 1.75 inches above the midline.  MB is 6.5 inches from PAP, left of midplane (thumb).  The ball has a short pin, so it ended up with 2 ounces of side weight, and 2.75 ounces of top weight.  My question is, where should I put the weight hole?  I have been trying to figure out the target weighting system, but to no avail.  I want the hole to be flare decreasing, so I should put it inside my VAL correct?  My other question is once i've found a spot for the weight hole, how big of a hoel and how deep should I go?  Incase you are wondering, there is no finger or thumb weight, as I drilled the fingers deeper.  I also drilled the ring finger a half inch deeper than the middle to cut some side weight out.  Any information would be greatly appreciated.

So how deep should I go to start with exactly 1 ounce?  Or should I start the hole and re-weigh to see where i'm at, and go from there?

If you want to target weights perfectly, all you need is Lane #1's Gravity Balance System. This has been around for a long time.

Yes, ending weights do matter..!! By changing the ending weights, you will change the ball reaction/spin time, PSA, ect... =:^D
