During my pre surgery consult, my doc described to me how he performs this procedure. Basically, he cuts you just above your elbow and another place longways around your elbow. Through the first cut, he threads a stitch through the tendon, and drills 3 holes in the bone of the elbow. In the 3 holes, he places 3 "hooks" or "fingers" that he will attach to the tendon and secure the tendon back to the elbow....through the other incision, he then stitches everything together and packs me pack up. Eventually, the fingers will become calciumand SHOULD be as good or better than it was before...

I received a call moments ago stating this Friday I am scheduled to have surgery. They say it is outpatient, an about an hour long. I would be out Friday about 4-5 hours after the surgery.

FUN TIMES!

RESULTS: MRI shows a COMPLETE rupture of the bicep tendon approx 3.5-4 centimeters off the bone. Surgery is REQUIRED to reattach if I want to bowl again right handed to probably be at the level I was before. Doc said this is a very BAD tear..usually its just a tisker off the bone, but...this is not.

Can I bowl right handed without reattaching? YES, but, I will lose approx 40% of my strength and thus will lose speed off the ball. I can go to a lighter ball, BUT, how lite?

At the very least, I am out the rest of the year unless I switch to left handed.

Went to a sports medicine doc today as my arm still is not 100%, and my fam doc just wasn't doing enough in my opinion, other than giving me a form of cortisone to take for 20 days....well..finished that yesterday and there is still some stiffness/soreness in my forearm...

Doc today who specializes in the arm region said he feels I did something to my bicep tendon in my forearm..and while X rays once again were negative, I have yet to have an MRI...which he scheduled for me next Tuesday. The tests he gave me led him to believe there is something wrong, but he can't put his finger on it without knowing the MRI results...

Best case scenario: Bicep tendon is either just really inflamed and I need some therapy and strength exercises to build my forearm back up.

Middle of the road: I have a slight tear in the bicep tendon, which would require more therapy and strengthening...

Worst case scenario: Bicep tendon is torn off the bone, and surgery would be required IF I want to bowl again with my right arm....

Results are due back 24-48 hours after the test is finished, so I should know by next Thursday as to my future.....

Actually Brook, I know when they are going to start popping up, so I make my moves before I leave one!

Yeah, first thing that came to mind was Rookie of the year, or whatever the name of the baseball movie was with the kid who broke his arm and starts to pitch for the Cubs when his tendons were stiff...yeah...we will see...

I wish you the best of luck with your surgery Clint.

My wife had a similar procedure about 3 years ago. While there were complications, she returned to bowling in a short time. She is bowling better than ever too.
