The Motiv Blue Coral Venom is the first hybrid version of this seasoned mid-performance ball line. This version was designed to offer versatility as well as a benchmark reaction when facing fairly high friction conditions. This bowling ball offers more traction and a stronger and more continuous down-lane motion in oil than the Venom Recoil. The Coercion MFH Reactive cover found on this Venom Blue Coral bowling ball creates plenty of length through the front part of the lane, then reacts at the mid-lane with a smooth and controllable shift. The hybrid coverstock offers traction in the oil while maintaining control down lane. The Gear APG core is asymmetrical and has a low differential which enables the ball to strike the pins with less angle because of the more aggressive coverstock.

The Venom line has been a staple with MOTIV for over a decade, and the Blue Coral is a worthy addition to its heritage. Sporting the Coercion MFH Reactive coverstock (finished at 4000 grip LSS) wrapped around the asymmetric Gear APC core (2.47 RG, .036 Differential) first seen in the Venom Recoil, this new entry provides excellent performance in the Medium to Medium-Light condition category.

I laid my Blue Coral out with a stronger pin, then lightly hit it with a 3000 abralon pad by hand, to give myself something with a bit more punch than my Shock overall but keeping its intended down lane motion intact. When I first brought it out in league, it was just a bit less than what I needed for the fresh but showed enough that it could be great once the transition hit. Transitioning down from my Mythic Jackal, the Blue Coral did not miss a beat for the rest of the league night. Where the transition had carved the midlane and mucked up the backend, this ball handled both quite well. The cover has just enough bite to not fully skate through everything up front thereby allowing the Gear APC to power into the ‘roll’ motion just before hitting that carry down. As the night progressed, I was able to continue moving left with this ball even through the second defined transition, finding that it could handle larger launch angles and still make it back to the pocket. Even with the stronger pin placement I have on mine, the ability of the Blue Coral Venom to open-up the lane is a benefit to my arsenal when strong shells are too early and weaker shell/core combos are not enough the drive through to the pit. This is an excellent mid-block ball for me, bridging the gap between my ‘big block’ pieces (Mythic Jackal, Trident Horizon) and later-day stuff (Shock, Tank line).

Review:
The Blue Coral Venom is something I’ve anticipated for quite a while. While being a huge fan of the Venom line, this is something I know I’m going to be throwing a lot in the future. I first threw the Blue Coral with a pair of Venom Shocks. This combination makes me feel unbeatable. The Blue Coral showed me how controllable it is going down the lane, but producing a shape that isn’t too slow or too strong. With the Hybrid cover, the range of shapes that this can create is going to be well-utilized   as it also gives me that benchmark-type feel as well. At the same time, I feel I can get my hands in this late in any block as well.

Summary:
With this still being early in the year, the releases haven’t been nothing short of amazing. The Blue Coral Venom will be one of the pieces that I will be drilling multiples of. The asym core and the hybrid cover, I just feel there will be an insane amount of layouts that can be used on this and produce the results that are wanted. You will want more than one!!

The Blue Coral Venom is the next best ball in the Venom lineup by far! If you liked the Venom Recoil, you will LOVE this ball! This ball is a cleaner version of that ball and much sharper downlane and goes through the pins like butter. This ball is an absolute monster of a ball and would be a great 1-2 punch with the Venom Shock!

With the Venom line and it's ten year span, Motiv released the Blue Coral Venom and it is amazing! With the Coral being the first asymmetrical ball in the Venom line, it is driven by the Gear APG Core and features the Coercion MFH Reactive cover. It is also great to use on the light-medium oil patterns and is an upgrade to the Venom Recoil. I like the Coral just because it gives better traction in the oil and more continuation through the backends. The Specs are listed below along with the ball weights available to purchase. Overall, If you are looking for a ball with tremendous versatility, and the ability to attack the pins from shallower angles. The Blue Coral Venom is the ball to add to your arsenal.
WEIGHT BLOCK Gearâ„¢ APG
COVER STOCK Coercionâ„¢ MFH Reactive
FINISH 4000 Grit LSS
WEIGHT RANGE 12, 13, 14, 15, 16
LENGTH 16
BACKEND 17
HOOK 53
FLARE POTENTIAL 3"+

Actually, the Venom Recoil was the first asymmetrical ball in the Venom line.  It had the same core as the Blue Coral Venom.

Core: Gear APG
Type: Asymmetrical
Coverstock: Coercion MFH Reactive
Box Finish: 4000 Grit LSS
Video: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/c_kXs34BKcM
Layout: 45 x 4 ½ x 70

Strengths
Blue Coral Venom has the most shape at the breakpoint of all the previous Venom weaponry, although it has a lot of teeth in the midlane the reaction isn’t erratic.
The hybrid coverstock  Coercion MFH Reactive provides reasonable traction in the oil without sacrificing versatility, I found the cover to be useful on both fresh and severely broken down patterns.
The backend reaction of Blue Coral isn’t as violent compared to Venom Recoil, as strong as the backend reaction it didn’t force me out of my comfort zone.
Blue Coral fits underneath the Pride and Jackal weaponry in terms of overall hook, bigger than Venom Shock and Fatal Venom.  I understand what conditions Blue Coral are meant for however I’ve had tremendous success on heavier patterns as well, the forward roll is produces is contentious.

Weaknesses
I wasn’t successful with Blue Coral on extreme friction and extreme volumes,  however that is why  I have Top Thrill and Jackal Legacy for such occasions.

Overall Summary
Blue Coral was created to respond to the friction more reasonably that Venom Recoil, although low flaring weaponry is typically encouraged more so on medium patterns Blue Coral for me was rather versatile.  Out of box Blue Coral gave me plenty of hook but it wasn’t as much as  bigger weaponry like Ghost and Odyssey, a reasonable asymmetrical option to the symmetrical options of Venom Shock and Fatal Venom.
I love Blue Coral on transition as much as I do on the fresh, in the event urethane is being too slow or when bigger weaponry is giving off too much motion Blue Coral has enough of a controlled motion at the breakpoint to not give you too much at the breakpoint.
Should you find yourself in fresh or transitional turmoil I encourage you to look at the versatile Venom Blue Coral.

Your game will thank you for it .

Hi Fellow Bowlers and Coaches -  I liked all of the write ups for the BCV.  Years ago, I learned to do Dual Angle layouts and drilling.  I purchased a BCV yesterday and laid out the DA.  The layout looked, well not what I expected.  The pin is low and right.  I figured this was what Motive designed the ball to do.  Dry conditions long with recovery.  But I did have a problem finding the Mass Bias.  I found a small yellow figure 8 symbol that I decided could be the MB.  So, now just trying to find the truth.  Thank you - Coach Denny

So, the problem was me.  I struck the mid line off of an incorrect mark on the VAL line. The ball is now drilled correctly.  Looking for good things!  Coach Denny
Dual Angle - 40* X 3.65" X 42* = 82*

COMMENTS

The coral is a great option when the shock is making its move a little to early. It offers a ton on backend once it sees the friction. Definitely the strongest venom I have thrown. Also one of the most versatile balls I have thrown as well. The pin up coral and the pin down coral compliment each other well.
