- DESCRIPTION: The MOTIV GT1 kills the pocket with a powerful new engine and an incredibly aggressive tread. The engine is the new Gear Driveâ„¢ inner core and the tread is our new MOTIVator-Tâ„¢ cover. This ball also offers an industry first - a pearl NeoMarkâ„¢ graphic.
Gear Drive Inner Core Technology
The MOTIVâ„¢ GT1 is powered by the Gear Drive inner core. It is a strong symmetric core with a low RG for maximum revs and a moderate diff to control shot burn-out.
MOTIVator-T Reactive Coverstock
The GT1 bowling ball has been equipped with an aggressive new tread - MOTIVator-T reactive urethane. It has more bite than our MOTIVator-X cover so it gives you a much stronger reaction. The GT1 Black Thunder Pearl cover is tuned in for medium-heavy oil with 1000 Abralon pads and Power Gel Polish.
Reverb Outer Core
The Reverb outer core of the GT1 is a low-density polyester resin with pin piercing hardness and strength. Rather than absorb impact energy, this outer core reverberates energy as it explodes through the pins.
NeoMark Graphics
The MOTIV GT1 features an industry first - a pearl NeoMark graphic. The Quicksilver Pearl logos stand out against the Black Thunder Pearl cover. It’s a killer combination.

ball speed 15-16 mph
 medium rev rate
lane condition 41ft THS ball drilled pin high 1 inch above ring finger cg inch rt. ball specs. 15lb 3 1/2 pin
Standing 21 laydown 12 to 10 at arrows out to 8 at the breakpoint. This ball is extremely clean through the front of the lane, saving all its energy for the breakpoint. The carry is flat out amazing. Looking forward to using this ball in League. I was using a tucked pinky and coming right up the back of the ball. This ball is really impressive I will update this ball after Ive done more testing of this piece. so far so good nice release by MOTIV and the ball looks really nice also.

Just had my Motiv GT1 drilled last night during my league, was throwing an X-factor Vertigo before it was ready playing my usual line straight up 10 board around 16 mph which is a little slow for my, had the GT1 ready for the 9th frame, drilled for max hook with a 3inch pin, and threw it easily 1-1.5 mph faster than the Vertigo on the same line and it destroyed the pocket on its first 2 shots before leaving a 9 pin in the 10th frame, finished that game with a 226 then I kept using the GT1 the next 2 games shooting 215 227 respectively, the 2nd game I experimented with different lines since the lanes were breaking down, I moved in after I left a 9 pin and decided to shoot it with my TX1 on the same line and that ball over hooked the 9 pin... but I found a home throwing the GT1 about 17.5-18 mph up the 12 board the last game, can't wait to throw more with it, so far its extremely smooth and doesn't roll out when it hits the dry, oh yea and it hooks like a mo fo

Motiv has struck gold again here, love both my motiv balls, still sceptical about that SX1 tho

Basics: "power tweener" - ball speed around 18mph
PAP 4 3/16" and 3/16" up
Drill: pin 3 3/8" from PAP (2:00 above ring)
Finish: factory 100 abralon polish
Average: league 220-228, nationals 200
condition of test: medium typical wet dry "house" shot
scores - 256,268,258-789

I drilled this ball today and all I can say is WOW. I didn't expect the ease with which this ball finds the pocket. There is very little over-under even on a wet dry house shot. it sets up well when through middle "puddle" and doesn't over jerk from the dry. The mistake area it allows is amazing. I was playing(start) 15/16 to around 8 with dry "bunp" area right and puddle in middle. The ball is VERY STRONG midlane with smooth strong arch. I have not seen that even of a rolling reative pearl before (usually only in solids). The hit was very strong even when tugged in oil.

I feel this will be a dominate ball in the medium league/house as well as transition or wet dry conditions due to the strong arc it has. It will defidently be in my hands in Las Vegas when the lanes start to transition.

I hope this was helpfull. Also check out MOTIV on Facebook.

Ball 15.4 oz, 3" pin, 3.25 oz top weight.
Ball drilled pin above ring, CG kicked out slightly
Box finish, 1000 Abralon with Motiv Powergel polish
Bowler: 18 mph tweener, 200 ave league monkey
39' THS, 7-7 feathered and tapered, AMF synthetics

Had the ball punched up couple days ago, after my pro shop operator convinced me these Motiv guys are for real. Box finish has only a slight shine to it. Ball is clean through the heads, picks up well in the midlane, then makes a strong, smooth, predictable move in the backend.

Don't let the pearl and the light polish finish fool you. This is a very aggressive piece. Was able to play almost anywhere on a fresh THS with hand position changes. But the ball appeared strongest from 25-12-5 with a little side rotation. The only line I had trouble with was a deep inside look, but then I have never been good with that line :-( for some reason.

The biggest things with this ball are the turn at the corner with a little side rotation and the roll into the pocket. The roll is bigger, stronger, and more powerful than anything I've thrown. It's kind of like the roll of my old Shock & Awe but with a continuous hook vs the hook-set I got from the S&A, along with even better carry. The sound of a pocket hit is really impressive for those who find that important.

I would use this ball on a fresh shot, but might still want to turn to a weaker pearl in the third game. Have to work with it more to see if I can stay with it all day. The pro at my center thinks this just might be the only ball he uses on our Experience league.

This is one impressive piece. You need to have one of these in the bag and just might find your other gear getting lonely.

Layout: 4 ¼ x 3 ¾, Pin 3 inches above midline of grip.

Lane Condition: House pattern, medium to heavy oil.

What type of hook? Length with strong backend, the strongest backend motion of the 3 in the series.  It felt like it was the most overall hook of the 3, covering the most amount of boards.  The ball is for medium oil. On a typical house shot you are able to bounce it off the dry down lane.

Where the TX 1 and SX1 the GT1 was much cleaner through the fronts and produced a much sharper breakout.

First and foremost I'd like to thank Scott Hewitt and the staff at Motiv for all of their help, expertise, and advice on their equipment.  The equipment brings you in, the quality of people bring you back!

I received the GT1 this past week (06-08-2009) and punched it up yesterday (06-09-2009).  I went with a 4.5 x 2 x 4.5 (for dual angle layouts it's basically at 45 x 4.5 x 45).  The pin is just above the ring finger with the cg about an inch and a half below the ring finger.  I went with this layout to give me flip and continuation that is controllable on the PBA and sport shot patterns.

I threw 10 games with this ball in one day on two conditions, a standard house shot, and a fresh Viper shot in my PBA experience league.

I will start my review by stating the following, this ball will be a contender for ball of the year without a doubt.  All you Virtual Gravity lovers out there need to do yourselves a favor and pick up one of these amazing pieces of equipment!  It'll make you think twice come voting time on which is the best ball of the year.

Reaction (House Shot):
The GT1 eases through the heads and reads the midlane incredibly.  The move off of the break point is a two phase move, quick flip as it changes direction, and then continuation through the backends.  It's the quintessential FLIP-ROLL look that so many pieces of equipment try and create.  This reaction shape allowed me to play the entire lane, anywhere from straight up 5 to swinging out to the 10 board from deep inside around 35.  There was no loss of reaction as I moved in and the GT1 seems to read the midlane better the deeper you move in.  Slight hand position changes from side roll to forward roll allow you to really adjust break points from outside to in and the GT1 continues and carries pins regardless of where I play.  It is no stranger to oil so crankers and tweeners who stay away from the track will find this the best go to ball.

Reaction (PBA Viper pattern):
I primarily concentrated on 2 lines with this ball.  The first was my left foot on 18 with a breakpoint target of the 4 board.  Laying the ball down around 10 and pushing it out the 4 board gave the midlane read I really needed to get the ball down the lane.  The turn around the corner was unbelievable, no under reaction, only over if anything.  If I missed right it would hang in the oil but the recovery of the flip on the breakpoint is incredible.  I'll reference the Virtual Gravity again, my impression of that ball was great when I saw its flip to roll recovery.  The GT1 in my eyes puts any ball to shame with that type of shape.

The second line I concentrated on was my left foot on 28 and a breakpoint target of 6.  I was laying the ball down around 15 and pushing through to the 6 board.  This is the line where the GT1 really shined.  As impressive as it was playing the outside the inside track really allowed me to open up the lanes.  It recovered from everywhere and being able to visually see the flip movement off the point allowed me to fully control my tilt and roll inside.  If I left 2 10 pins across 4 games it was a lot and the pin hitting power is unbelievable.

The Cover:
What impresses me the most about this ball is with it's strong cover combination and chemical make up it really does not polish up from oil at all.  The Virtual Gravity, Rogue Cell, Break Point, and other balls with similar reactions all polish up like crazy for me.  After just 3 games with them I need to take an abralon pad and some dulling conditioner to them.  I have 10 games on my GT1 and it's as dull as it was when I brought it out of the shop, just now with track lines on it.

Overall impression:
After playing the ball in the out of bounds area of the viper and deep inside on a house shot I feel safe to conclude that this ball will be the most versatile and go to ball on any shot.  This will range anywhere from house shot, to Shark Pattern on PBA, to the nationals longer higher ratio condition.  It'll be the first ball out of my bag and the last ball to leave the lanes.  The visual characteristics of this ball allow you to recognize those much needed changes to your hand position, speed, and lines that otherwise may go UN-noticed.

Congratulations Motiv, we have another winner!

MOTIV GT1:: PBA Shark Review

I had my GT1 drilled with a leveraged label layout of 3.5" x 4.75" no weight hole.

This review is from use on the PBA Shark pattern, 44 feet of oil.

The GT1 is now officially my go to ball on the Shark pattern. The smooth rolling motion and drive of this ball is second to none. I played a down and in shot, placing the ball on the second arrow. with more forward roll than side roll. The GT1 was able to recover from the long oil. Once it hit the dry and made its way to the pocket, the ball hit with aggressive striking power. The GT1 was able to keep the pins low, giving the ball a high carry percentage on this condition.

I'd like to thank Scott and the MOTIV staff for a great product. More reviews and eventually video reviews to follow.

My Information:Ball Speed-15/16 mph,Rev Rate-250/265rpms
 Axis Rotation-45 degrees,Axis Tilt-15degrees.
 Ball Spec Information:Core-Gear Drive,Cover-MOTIVator-T,
RG:2.47/15lbs,Diff:0.32/15lbs,Surface Tested:1000 grit with Power Gel Polish.
 Color:Black Thunder Pearl.
Ball Tested Drill Specsin to PAP:5 1/4"x 4 1/4",Pin above ring finger.
 No X-Hole.
Lanes Tested On:All types of synthetics & wood.

The GT1-The cover and core combination creates more friction than the SX1
and the TX1 but less than the TR2.
The cover along with the low RG Gear Drive core gives the GT1 more hook
throughout the entire lane than the SX1 & TX1 but less than the TR2.
I saw a very smooth rolling reaction from start to finish from the GT1.
The ball starts up earlier than the SX1 & TX1 with better mid-lane bite.
The GT1 clears the heads easy but turns up the revs at the mids but, makes
a very strong move off the back end, almost a skid snap.I found very minimal
over-under on most house shots. Also the GT1 plays great when there is some
 carrydown.

On the THS:The GT1 allowed me to open up and play the lane with a larger
swing area.On the oilier house shots the GT1 allowed me to square up a little
more to the right.Playing this area gave me great reaction off the breakpoint,
and a very nice roll to the pocket with good pin carry.

On very dry house shots:The GT1 is way too strong for me on this shot,
I would use the SX1 on this shot.

On PBA Experience patterns and other sport patterns.
The GT1 worked best for me on the Cheetah pattern it allowed me to play the
oil line without a over reaction on the back of the pattern.
On the Scorpion pattern the GT1 worked well I could move inside a little
and use the core/cover combo to create the area I needed.
On the other PBA-X pattrens,Shark Chameleon,Viper. The GT1 worked for me but
the cover needed to be adjusted for me to play the patterns as I needed.
The only pattern that I had trouble with was the Shark pattern.Way too long
for me to get a good reaction.

Overall:This ball is a great first out of the bag ball on most house shots.
In my opinion the key for the GT1 is find the right drilling and cover
adjustment. The GT1 is a very versatile and should fit most styles.

Layout: pin 1 1/2 in above middle finger, cg slightly to the right of grip center.
Box surface

This ball is a great benchmark ball for me.  It reads the lanes very well and gives me a nice pop on the backend.  With this layout, which is about a 5 1/2 pin to pap layout, it tames down the move off the dry boards a little since my rev rate tends to make balls jumpy.  I've got 2 Sx1's 2 Tr2's 1 Tx1 and another Gt1 that i havn't punched up yet.  I'm going to lay it out with a stronger layout and different surface.
This ball fits above the Sx1's and the Tx1 and under the two Tr2's.  Overall this ball has great versatility and great for medium paterns.

my 5 1/2 pin Gt1 kills the house shot I bowl on.  shot 772 first set with it.  I drilled up a second one with a shorter pin and took the surface to 2000.  The pin is about 3 7/8 and the cg is slightly right of center and is slightly into the thumb quad.

I loved the reactioin I got from the 5 1/2 pin Gt1 and I think it might be possible that I love this reaction more!  It turns up sooner that the first one and reads the lanes a little smoother but still CRUSHES the pins unlike anything I've thrown lately.

Now that I've drilled up 7 Motiv balls I feel that these line up pretty well for an arsenal that cover the bases pretty well.  If you havn't checked out Motiv yet, do yourself a favor and do so quickly!

I recieved this ball about 3 months ago and it really is a really good ball. I had a 6 1/2 inch pin with cg in palm to tame the backend reaction and it still hits hard. It works extremely well on the cheetah, viper, and chameleon pattern. To name a flaw, it gets a tad bit weak in carry down as far as hittting power but still an overall good ball.

My first Ballreviews review. Here we go. I am a tweener in every respect. This ball is drilled 70 x 55 x 4 1/2 P2 hole. It has OOB surface.

I have used this ball on a variety of surfaces and conditions since drilling it. I have found it to be incredibly responsive to hand position and release changes. It reads the dry quickly but does not over react when coming off the spot. This makes it very controllable. I bowl mainly tournaments and this is now going to be my go to ball. I have nothing in my arsenal, or have never owned anything like this ball. It is great for medium to moderately heavy oil. All I can say is thank you MOTIV. Can't wait to drill up my next ball from them.

A video of me throwing it:

PAP: 5 1/2"
Rev Rate: 250-275 rpm
Ball Speed: 16-16.5 mph
Ball Layout: http://i437.photobucket.com/albums/qq98/marc_kingpin/kdk_0134.jpg

OOB Finish: With the 1000 grit with polish, I found that I get alot of over/under reaction with the GT1. It would be good to use as a compliment with a true heavy oil ball once the lanes open up but pretty hard to use on fresh oil as a starter. Playing it down and in on the 10 board, I got a decent, smooth reaction but with strong midlane read. But if I try to move inside around the 15-18 board to the 7 board at breakpoint the GT1 does have some issues turning the corner at times. Biggest problem I have is the carry on the backend with the 9 and 10 pin, but a straighter ball path would give me the best look.

1000 grit abralon: The dull finish was able to let the GT1 handle more oil and give me a better read as a benchmark ball. A big plus was that on a toughter tournament pattern the GT1 doesn't over react on the backend and I got about a foot or more earlier reaction than the OOB finish. Synthetic lanes seem to work the best for me with this one and getting around the carrydown was good.

Rate this ball: 6.5 out of 10
This would be an OK ball to have as a benchmark ball for tournaments but anyone looking for a skid/flip will have to look elsewhere. It's is smoother and abit less backend than my Ebonite NVD and Mission. The GT1 is not very forgiving when trying to adjust to the lane transition but for the strokers that likes to play straight up the board, they will like it.
