- DESCRIPTION: Set your game on fire with the QZ2 Backdraft for light to medium oil. The Quadfire core is engulfed by the Fire Pearl and Solid Black MOTIVator-Z Reactive Hybrid shell.
Adding fuel to the fire, the 2000 polished finish has an increased Ra value to read the lane slightly earlier and cover more total boards than the original QZ2. Still, the QZ2 Backdraft gets through the heads cleanly and displays excellent backend motion.

The QZ2 BackDraft is designed for light to medium oil patterns. The ball performs as advertised. It pushes through the heads with ease as on fresh shots as well as heads that are getting thin on the oil. The ball does little reving in the midlane, but as soon as the ball hits friction it begins to read When the friction is found you can visually see the ball rev (thanks to the Neomark graphics) up making it easy to identify the current breakpoint. The change in direction is not as sharp as the Cruel LE but still plenty strong enough to generate sufficient angle into the pocket to carry. I am able to use the BackDraft playing both down the boards, swinging it out to the dry, or playing deep but not far right. The ball recovers very well making an aggressive move when it encounters friction. When the volume in the heads is above the norm, the Backdraft will "squirt" through the breakpoint at times and also will leave weak corner pins when the ball is not able to complete the transition to a roll. As long as the Backdraft does not have excessive head and midlane oil it is a very effective ball. In comparison to the original QZ1 and QZ2 the ball picks up a little earlier (due to the hybrid coverstock) and the total hook is about 2 boards more then the original QZ's. I have been able to play straight up 5 as well as playing deep and swing it wide and still carry.

The Backdraft does not seem to have a surface preference as it reacted well on all surfaces.

If you use this ball as designed on shorter or lighter oil patterns, it is a very effective ball. To throw it on a fresh THS or a longer Sport Condition with a few games will take very good ball speed and rev rate control,.

The Backdraft gives Motiv a piece of equipment for Motiv believers to step up from the the original QZ's without having to go to the SR2.. I'm very colorblind but I've heard from multiple bowlers that the ball is very pleasing to the eye and will give it good shelf appeal.

The NEW QZ2 Backdraft from MOTIV features the same core as used in the previous QZ ball releases. The difference between this and the original QZ2 is the coverstock. The backdraft uses a hybrid version of the coverstock which will provide bowlers with more friction causing an earlier reaction as compared to the original QZ2. I chose to drill my Backdraft with a 55x3 7/8x65 layout. This places the pin 1/4" below my ring finger (right hand) and places the cg about an 1" above my thumb kicked out 1/2".

I conducted some practice on the Team USA Stockholm pattern (34 ft) and found the ball was smooth through the heads with a strong continuous move down lane. The layout mixed with the hybrid cover allowed for a smooth but strong read of the break point without any over/under type reaction. As the pattern transitioned, I moved left with the target and was able to maintain the same shape and angle into the pocket. As compared to the blue/black QZ2, which tended to be a bit more angular for me off the hook spot. I have kept both at OOB surface for this session.

I drilled the QZ2 Backdraft 50 x 4 3/4 x 70 with the pin underneath my bridge with no additional hole needed. Throwing this gem on a league pattern is definitely a winner with those medium to high rev rate bowlers, or when they begin to transition for those who need to begin the night with a stronger and more aggressive bowling ball.

The QZ2 Backdraft is also ideal for Medium to Short Oil tournament patterns. With the new MOTIVATOR-Z hybrid coverstock, combined with the Quadfire Inner Core allows you to be able to play a variety of angles, benefitting all types of bowlers.

The Backdraft, in comparison to the SR2 covers the same amount of boards, but allows you to create more angle through the front part of the lane. And in comparison to the QZ2 Blue/Black, it gives you more read of the mid lane, and a more continuous roll through the pins, where the QZ2 Blue/Black may be too clean through the heads.

QZ2 BACKDRAFT

2000 With Power Gel Polish.

This is the ball that I have been looking forward too for some time now. Most league and Tournament conditions will dry out very fast. Normally, the transition phase will happen between games 1 and 2. Generally, in a 6 Game Tournament block you only use your High end balls 1 to 2 games. As the lanes start to Dry out you will have to shift down to a less aggressive bowling ball. This is where the new QZ2 BD comes into play for you. The Key is the Hybrid cover stock that Motiv used on this ball. Changing from a High end ball to a Mid-line ball will sometimes change the shape of your entry angle. Changing your entry angle shape will hurt the carry you had with the more aggressive ball. Most High end balls roll in the mid-lane and which creates carry. This is what the QZ2 BD does at the Mid-price point. The QZ2 BD picks up in the mid-lane like a High End ball every time with a strong cautious roll thru the pins. This QZ2 will glide thru the front part off the lanes with ease because of the pearl resin mix. The QZ2 BD is ready to handle any transition phase in any league or tournament you will bowl. Sometimes a pure Pearl or a straight Solid ball cannot handle transition well. The QZ2 Backdraft will not be that first ball out of my bag. But, I do know this it will be the ball that saves my butt and makes me more money every time I bowl. Get Motivated!

When this ball arrived I had very high expectations. I like the entire QZ line and have had a lot of success with the QZ1P and the QZ2. I was not disappointed. As expected being a hybrid the Backdraft has more mid lane than the QZ2. But it still has the backend reaction that bowlers are looking for. Hitting power for the entire QZ line is great and the Backdraft is no exception. Especially when you consider the mid level price point. The cover stock handles changes very well. At 2000 with Power gel polish this ball can handle med oil. I had a chance practice with the Backdraft on a few conditions. Where it really started to show what it could do was when the shot started to break down. This ball would glide thru the heads and make a strong turn to the pocket. Where the QZ1R or QZ2 blue would sometimes push thru the break point the Backdraft will just make the turn and keep going. I can see using this ball for a long time. Only the extremely oily or very dry lanes will keep this ball in the bag.

Review:

The QZ2 Backdraft by Motiv is quickly becoming one of favorite bowling balls. My first three games off the press were 245/269/279 for a 793 series on a 40ft typical house shot. The MOTIVator-Z hybrid coverstock helps provide a clean read in the heads and provides a nice strong angular move in the backend. I really like using this ball when the lanes start going through transition and I have to start playing the inside part of the lane. The backdraft gives me the angular motion in the backend without losing midlane control. This ball gives you alot of bang for your buck. Another great ball by Motiv. Get MOTIVated!!!!!

QZ2 Back Draft

This is the 3^rd ball of my initial MOTIV pieces drilled as a MOTIV Staffer. The Back Draft is very clean through the front part of the lane and then consistently reads the remainder of the lane. When I say “consistently” I mean, I never saw the ball jump too much (over react) or skid too far (under react). I would consider the ball to have a strong arc for the reaction shape (I did a milder pattern compared to my Raptor P7 and Sigma Tour).

My first session with the Back Draft was on Kegel’s Easy Street (Light volume) with a synthetic surface. This ball forced me to play a little straighter than I normally would on a fresh house pattern, but without sacrificing any carry. Other balls at this price level are allergic to carry down, but the Back Draft kept a strong arcing motion even with the carry down late in the session. Consistent ball reaction late in a set is a piece that will get a lot of use for me this season.

It’s hard to come by mild equipment that is also suited for tougher or sport conditions, but the QZ2 Back Draft will fill that void. It also completes an unbeatable trio right now all from MOTIV, between my Raptor P7, Sigma Tour, and QZ2 Back Draft I can compete on any condition!

What's not to like about the QZ2 Backdraft. It gives such a clean read in the heads and a strong reaction on the back end. It provides a very consistent, predictable reaction and continuous roll through the pins. The Backdraft is also one of the best looking balls put out by Motiv. The Neomark graphics on the ball actually provide a great visual of the breakpoint as the ball hits friction. Even though a recent injury has forced me to throw 14 lb equipment, the Quadfire core punishes the pins just like the heavier equipment.

The Backdraft is another excellent ball by Motiv. It has a very clean reaction through the front of the lane with a controllable mid lane roll leading to a strong back end reaction. This ball continues its driving action through the pins for superb pin carry. I have used this ball on various conditions from dry to a medium oil pattern at 35 foot and a medium oil pattern at a 45 foot pattern and on both wood and synthetic surfaces. With having such a clean predictable reaction and a strong finish this is now the first ball in my hand to start off a tournament or league. I can quickly get a good read on the lanes and know what Motiv ball is right for the condition. Since I bowl on wood lanes where the heads break down fairly quick, the QZ2 Backdraft allows me to hold onto my line longer and score higher. On top of being such a great performing ball it has a very appealing look.

I am right handed and throw the ball at 17mph. The ball is drilled 95x45x3.875 with no hole and was left at the factory finish of 2000.

Likes: This ball was something I had seen thrown by others and really wanted to try for myself. With my speed and rev count being a little higher I wanted something to roll and pick up a little sooner but not lose backend reaction as the lanes transitioned so I would have another option if my Primal Impulse became either too flippy or flattened out just a bit since it is a skid flip ball by design. After some discussion from trusted reps. I decided to go with my layout of choice to get the rolly reaction desired and still see the push through the heads with ease that I have gotten with all my other Motiv balls. This ball is a hybrid cover and with the layout I put on it, the length and recovery are as good as any other ball I have thrown from Motiv. I have not had a ball that reads and transitions as smooth as the Quadfire QZ2. What I like the most out of this ball is that even with a slightly less ball in your hand, you do not lose anything when it comes to pin carry. Not only do these balls react so smoothly, but they hit soooo hard and the pins just dance!

Great Ball MOTIV!

Dislikes: That I didn't drill one sooner!
