The venom shock has been my favorite ball from Motiv. It is very controllable with a smooth but continuous motion down lane. Sometimes on heavier oiled house shots or on certain patterns the venom shock is just a little too weak, the new ripcord flight fills that gap. The layout on my Ripcord Flight is 65x4 1/2x70 which is the same layout that is on my favorite shock. For me the ripcord flight is about 3-4 boards stronger than the shock, reads the lane a little sooner which allows it to handle more oil, but still has that smooth, continuous motion down lane. This new flight is the perfect benchmark ball to start with on any pattern.

go. The layout I put on it is 55x5x30. This ball is hands down already one of the best benchmarks i’ve ever thrown. It is extremely smooth and has insane continuation. I think a decent comparison to it is the Venom Shock, where as the Venom is cleaner with a faster response, the Ripcord flight is a little earlier with a slower response off the spot, which is why I feel it is an even better benchmark than the Venom Shock. This ball is also extremely coverstock versatile, I’ve scuffed it with a 1000 pad and I’ve also shined it up, and both ways this ball rolled great regardless. I can’t wait to drill a couple more of these, I would recommend this ball to any style of bowler!

Review:

The Ripcord Flight is the newest bowling ball in the MOTIV product line. The Flight brings together to classics from the past in the MOTIV line to bring this bad boy to life. The Ripcord Flight features the Turmoil Solid Reactive Cover Stock, which was found on everyone’s favorite MOTIV bowling ball, the Venom Shock, and we paired it with the dual-density Oblivion core and of course the eye turning sky blue looks makes Ripcord flight an aggressive reaction on the lane and excellent continuation through the pins that will compliment the Venom Shock when you get to more heavier oil conditions like push down lane.

Weight Block      Oblivion
Cover Stock        Turmoil Max Solid Reactive
Finish                 3000 Grit LSS

Comments:

Finally, we have something that complements the Venom Shock. While the Venom Shock is by far one of the greatest bowling balls I’ve ever thrown, when I get to heavier volume or when I get push down lane, it would not finish as hard as I want to. With the Ripcord Flight, I don’t have to worry about that anymore and then some. I love that I can play any part of the lane as strike because it gut reads the lane perfectly. Even when I feel I didn’t throw it well, it can still find the pocket. Plus it’s nice to pull this piece out of the bag instead on are bigger line and not worry if I can get to the pocket on heavier volume. Now I haven’t gotten much time to throw this piece with what’s going on in the world today so I can’t want to get back on the lanes and have more time with this piece. Everyone stay safe and we will get through this together.

Likes: Aggressive motion down lane; excellent continuation through the pins
Dislikes None

I recommend this Ripcord Flight to all types of bowlers.

Motiv Ripcord Flight
The New Motiv Ripcord Flight is a great benchmark piece that will fit most all bowlers of all skill levels. Its sleek design and color will make it a fan favorite. This Solid reactive piece is strong in oily conditions but still provides incredible down lane reaction and continuation.  Based of arguably one of the best Motiv balls ever -Venom Shock-  this ball provides the shape down lane not typically seen from a solid ball. At first glance you will notice its incredible, noticeable color as it treks down lane. The oblivion weight block also provides length down lane allowing this ball to read the lane when it needs to. This is definitely a piece for your bag for all conditions – I think you will be pleasantly surprised by its results!

The Venom shock has been a staple in my bag since its release but sometimes have trouble when there is more volume .Thats where the Ripcord flight comes into play . It is the perfect benchmark ball to give you a read on the lanes . It fits in the middle of the ball chart exactly where I have it . Ripcord Flight reads the midlane without sacrifing ball motion through the pins. The Oblivion core allows the this ball to get down the lane while the Turmoil max solid cover allows it to read the lanes when the the venom shock is not strong enough ,which a new cover version of the venom shock. I bowled on a THS and Sport pattern and was able to get in to the Ripcord flight on the fresh play multiple angles and if I need more more just sanded ball with a fresh 2k pad . As soon as I heard this ball was being released, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. The Flight is an amazing benchmark ball that provides great mid lane read and strong continuation down lane into the pins. In comparison to the Venom Shock, the Flight is a little earlier and creates a more round shape. Not only does it provide me with lots of strikes, it also looks amazing going down the lane. I believe this ball will have a place in my bag for a long time to come! Head over to your local pro shop and take flight today!

The layout I used on the Ripcord Flight was 60x5x30. This bowling ball defines what a benchmark ball is supposed to do. It reminds me of the Venom Shock; however, the new Ripcord Flight is stronger overall and a little more round on the backend for me. This is due to the higher diff core inside the Ripcord Flight. This ball makes the lanes easy to read and lets you know how to attack them. It takes really well to surface changes. I have thrown it at box(3k), 1k, and 2k. I prefer to use it at 2000 because it makes the ball motion a bit smoother. This ball will definitely make the pins take FLIGHT!

Take Flight!

Layout:
   65 x 5” x 35

What happens when you take the technology from the Venom Shock and update it for today’s conditions? The sky-blue explosion known as the Ripcord Flight was born to provide a heavier-volume compliment to MOTIV’s oldest continuous ball in production so that you can have that classic, controllable reaction in your hand for longer in the day.
The most pronounced feature of this ball is the eye-popping, two-toned color that stands out on the lanes. Don’t let this visual fool you, though. The uprated Turmoil Max Solid coverstock (3000 LSS) has been engineered to handle medium-heavy volumes and gives you strong traction for a good mid-lane read. To compliment the strength of this cover, the Oblivion core (2.53RG, .047Diff) was placed inside of it for its great versatility: it provides both the higher RG push to get through the heads easier while providing the dual-density flare enhancement for better lane grip. This dynamic duo has created a motion similar to the Venom Shock, but in higher volumes.
I laid my Flight out exactly like my original Shock (which is still kicking after six strong years of performance!) expecting a smooth, controlled motion throughout the lane like its older brother; it delivers exactly that. With its overall strength, the Flight has had no issues handling the fresh house shots that I have tried throwing it on. In fact, on some nights when the pattern seems to be a bit thinner, this ball acts like it’s in the high performance category and I have to look for a level down from it, such as the Tank Blitz. The most consistent thing I see throughout throwing this ball is, well, its consistency. This Ripcord has been remarkable at being able to grip the mid-lane so that it can create a predictable motion on the back half of the lane. By having this sort of control, you have the ability to make moves confidently to stay on top of the transition. I have yet to have a shot uncontrollably jump off the dry or suddenly bounce and create a detrimental angle through the pins. To that point, this ball was not designed to give you skid/snap or to open up the lane dramatically. Predictability is a key asset when battling early in the day conditions, and the Ripcord Flight delivers in that category.

Likes: The Ripcord Flight is exactly as advertised.  I put the same pin down layout that I love on my Venom Shock.(30 x 4 x 65) and this ball is a stronger version.  Not only is it a compliment to my Shock, it matches up great as a ball up to the original Ripcord. It has a smooth continuous motion that I have become accustomed to from Motiv’s solid cover stocks. The Ripcord Flight also has amazing shelf appeal, looks good rolling down the lane

So...all I have to say right now is Wow!! Do not let the attractive light blue color fool you...this ball really surprised me with it's ability to read and pick up the mid lane on both sport and house patterns. I truly was 7 and and 4 left of where I thought I would be with this gem. I have a 55x43/4x40 layout in it and once I got left enough the shape and carry was tremendous. I suggest that anyone looking for a good benchmark ball try this one out.

As we finally come back from the COVID break I have finally got a chance to throw some of my new rocks. Let's chat about the new ripcord flight. For me, I drilled mine 40x4x70. So for me its pin under the middle finger with no hole. I have a shock drilled the exact same layout. So to me, the flight feels cleaner upfront and more responsive downlane than the shock that people love to compare it to. Overall strength they are very similar just different shapes to me. Really great compliments to each other.

Weight Block: Oblivion

Cover Stock: Turmoil Max Solid Reactive

Finish: 3000 LSP

Length: 14.5

Backend: 17.5

Hook: 55

Flare Potential: 5+

Ripcord Flight

/ˈripkôrd/ˈflīt

Noun:

1. Designed to produce powerful traction in oil while reserving energy for impressive continuation down lane on medium oil.

2. Possess the Oblivion core which assists in creating length and angle and is wrapped in the Turmoil Max Solid Reactive cover stock.

Ball Reaction:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=wf5CynRxU0
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=eg1be-yYbro

Strengths

The Ripcord Flight's slow response downlane makes it a killer on flatter conditions and on conditions with enough oil in the front of the lane.

Turmoil Max Solid Reactive provides plenty of hook and blends out fresh patterns to set up weaker equipment later in league and tournament blocks.

The Ripcord Flight is more forward than sideways at the breakpoint to that of the original Ripcord.

Ripcord Flight has more overall hook than the original Ripcord. The aggressive coverstock makes this one of the strongest symmetrical pieces in the Motiv product line.

Weakness

The early traction that this ball provides made it too smooth after the patterns broke down in the front and got tighter down lane.

Summary

Ripcord Flight uses the same Oblivion core that was also in the original Ripcord and the Paranoia series, the difference is the Turmoil Max Solid Reactive coverstock which is responsible for the traction it provides.

Upon taking flight the cover grabs rather quickly with a smooth arc which I found beneficial when I misfired at the bottom of my release because Ripcord Flight will roll and not checkmark as Ripcord would. Ripcord Flight adds an early and smooth symmetrical ball within the Motiv lineup, it is aggressive enough to give you a more arc shape for heavier volumes of oil and flatter conditions.

Ripcord Flight is that feeler ball for me as it gives me an even read to feel out the pattern because it doesn’t give me too much or too little of ball reaction, the color scheme is just as attractive as the ball motion. If you had a love jones for the Paranoia series as I have I encourage you to take Flight, if your paranoia got the better of you preventing you from trying the Paranoia series again I encourage you to take Flight.

Your game will thank you for it.
