Title: Sigma Sting
Post by: Luvswatch on February 10, 2015, 09:06:27 AM
Just had one punched up this weekend while visiting my brother in Florida. His driller was excellent on layout and my specs.

Went with pin up about 70 degree layout to make it a true benchmark ball. Here in Chattanooga, mostly light to dry, so my cyclone is fine most of the time.

Well, this critter is strong off the dry. Was playing 15-6 and the carry is fantastic. I need to remember to be low rather than high with this ball due to entry angle for me.

Probably had 60% strikes with it in testing over just a few games.

If I got this lined up and threw the cyclone same line, cyclone might not hit head pin, so really was a good ball up for me and exactly what I was looking for.

Be curious to see how it is on fresh THS up here, probably have to put it away by third game, but man this thing hits like a truck!

Mine is pin above ring finger and with my higher rotation angle, it really saves most of the reaction for the backend.  I also really like the Sting....wish it wasn't discontinued.

My experience is similar to what todvan mentions.  With the Sting drilled pin up in my case, it gives me good length and has a ton of energy on the back.  Absolutely love that ball and I was hoping it would stay around longer than it did.  It's that good to where it replaced my Hy-Road as the benchmark ball in the arsenal.

For a fresh THS, it does work well most of the time. When the volume starts to get heavy where the Sting doesn't have as much recovery, that's when I go to the Revolt.

I have to agree with everyone.  I too quickly contacted my pro shop when I heard they were discontinued.  He was able to get one and we just drilled it up about a week ago.  I can't report that I came out of the gates with tons of honor scores, as I've been in a bit of a slump lately....but I really like the way this thing rolls for me.  I am looking forward to using this one a lot!!  At least until they come out with a successor to this!  This is my 4th Motiv ball and I am really liking how they roll for me!!  Funny is I bought a Primal Rage and shortly after, I had 2 teammates go buy one for themselves.  Lately I have been using my Ascent Apex, since I have been in a bit of a slump....so I thought I would change things up and just get back to basics and play my old down and in shot....and that has helped.  People have seen that and have liked that reaction, so they went to the pro shop and "I" sold 2 of those too!  I should be on Motiv staff or get commission!!  LOL

We may not see another ball with the Sigma Core. The Sting was the fifth ball Motiv has used that core in, so they will probably try something else. It would be a shame though. Wrap that core in a strong solid cover and let us have another round. :)

Thanks. Didn't know that. Probably impossible to find either of those these days tho. Weaker covers with that cite would probably be money for me.

I didn't care for the SX1 and wouldn't pay much for one even if it was NIB. The SR2 is a great ball that is super smooth. I used one for quite a while. I still have two of them NIB.

The vengeance looks fairly similar to the sting imo. Maybe a touch more overall but doesn't seem that far off. I was thinking about replacing my sting with that as my sting has lost a little punch and is quite a bit tamer than it was oob.

You may need to resurface it back to box finish. I have well over 100 games on one of mine and it's still going strong. I have had to do some surface work from time to time though.  I've ran it through an oil extraction but didn't get anything out of it.

Even though I love my Rage, I am currently taking a hard look at the Vengeance.

Panic also to replace my Octane, but with higher differential balls working best for me most of the time, I worry about the ultra-low differential of .023 in the 13# weight of which I currently throw. I have no idea how to drill it to work for me.

If you want to get rid of one of those SR2 I could help you out! ;)

I've tried everything i could think of so far no luck, it's still an ok ball as it is its just lost some of that punch and its not as awesome as it was. i got about 100 games on it. It just hooks a few boards less and doesn't snap the corners out like it used to......
