Title: Thrash
Post by: admin on December 31, 1969, 06:00:00 PM
- COLOR:  Deep Ocean Blue
- INNER CORE: Quadfire
- COVERSTOCK:  Z-Max Solid Reactive
- FINISH:  1000 Wet Sand
- RG: 15#-2.55
- RG DIFFERENTIAL: 15#- .043
- RECOMMENDED LANE CONDITION:  Medium Oil
- A few tiny pit holes in the cover stock of the ball are normal
- DESCRIPTION:  The  new MOTIV™  Thrash™  is  a medium  oil  ball   that attacks with control, but has a violent impact.   On fresh  patterns,  the  sanded  Z-Max™  Solid  Reactive  shell eliminates  the  wet/dry  reaction  issue by producing  a smooth and predictable motion  toward the pocket.   At the moment of impact, it thrashes across the  deck and shreds  the pins.   The MOTIV™ Thrash™  is perfect  for average  league bowlers that prefer to throw “down and in”,  and  for  advanced   bowlers  that  want  to  play  a straighter  line on  fresh patterns   to strike with control.
The Thrash  is the first solid ball to feature  the  proven  Quadfire core.  It is designed with an RG  to store energy  and  a  differential  to control  track  flare.   The 15# ball has a 2.55 RG and  .043 differential.    Note:  All  ball weights use  the same core  design.  MOTIV does NOT use generic cores in lightweight balls.

Thrash

With a great new solid coverstock and an already successful core this ball can fit into anyone’s lineup.  This ball will also be very nice to have on tougher patterns or if you are looking to blend the wet/dry patterns because of its smoothness and predictability.

In my video session with the Thrash I bowled on a 2nd shift house pattern with a synthetic surface.  The ball comes 1000 Abralon out of the box, but with the layout and intentions I had for the ball I polished it immediately.  This ball is a very nice compliment to either of the QZ2’s.  The Thrash comes in handy when your QZ2’s aren’t quite strong enough and the mid or high performance pieces just seem to be too strong.  As you will see in my video, when the ball is polished it still has plenty of continuation and backend.

View my video here: http://www.youtube.com/user/MOTIVmags

Don’t be fooled just because the Thrash is near the entry level price point, with the out of the box surface you will have more hook than you paid for.  When I had a chance to use the Thrash at the out of the box surface it was very similar to the hook potential of my Raptor.  The difference was the predictability, the Thrash had a much smoother shape, yet still a very strong motion through the pins.

If you already have either of the QZ2’s you need this ball to give yourself a great 1-2 combination.  If you are also looking for a lot of hook without spending a lot of money…then go get a Thrash on January 13th, 2012! Happy New Year!

Likes: I would like to start off by saying for a medium to dry lane ball this is awsome! I bowled on our league shot with the Thrash and this ball was very smooth down lane I mean smooth. Usually a lot of balls are real angualar off the spot espically on fresh when you play down and in and  the Thrash was real smooth and when hit the pins they moved. When the lanes broke down and there was some carry down I was able to play the same shot for 3 games. Yes I didnt even have to make a move. This is a great ball for anyone looking for a smooth reaction down lane. Thanks Motiv for another awsome ball.

The Thrash is a great even rolling, medium hook ball from MOTIV.  I really like the Thrash when I need to play the lanes a little straighter on fresh oil. On a house shot it helps even out the "over/under" reaction from side to side. On fresh sport patterns this ball works great when the back ends are really clean, and I need a controlled ball path.

Here is a link to my Thrash ball Reaction video on a medium/light volume house shot:

 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YsvN2DaT-XI

I drilled this one 50* x 5" x 70* which resulted in the pin just below my ring finger. I used the box finish. This ball has about the same over-all hook as my Sigma Tour, but the Thrash has a more arcing path to the pocket.

The greatest asset for this ball is that it is not jumpy – very smooth off the friction, and it keeps the pins real low. I feel like I carry more high pocket hits with the Thrash – the kind of hits that leave 4 pins with other equipment.

The Thrash is now the first ball out of my bag on most patterns. It gives me a solid, dependable start to my league or tournament session.

Wow,what can I say about the all new Thrash by Motiv Bowling?! Very smooth, predictable bowling ball that I can use on the fresh and close down my angles and keep the ball in front of me. For me this is my benchmark bowling ball and an absolute must in my bag. I would HIGHLY recommend this ball for anyone looking for a ball to be that go to ball to get a predictable and consitent reaction on a number of patterns. As for league patterns this ball is great for evening out the over/under and allowing me to get a great reaction from a number of areas on the lane.

But for me,What I love most about this ball is the fact that when you gloss it up the ball doesn't become overly angular or too sensative to friction. With the polish it will give you a clean look through the fronts and great length but still give you that predictable and consistent reaction down lane.

Go GET YOURS TODAY! You will not be let down!

The newest release from MOTIV, the THRASH is one of the most beautiful bowling balls on the market. This ball is released on January 13th, 2012 to your local pro shop. With the last few releases in the MOTIV line (Raptor P7, Sigma Tour, and Primal Impulse) being more stronger and angular on the backend, the THRASH is going to provide the bowler with a much more smooth reaction.

The THRASH, at 1000 grit abralon is ideal for the fresh tournament patterns, and when there is oil on the lane. The proven Quadfire core (which is also featured in the QZ2 Blue/Black and the QZ2 Backdraft) has a 2.55 RG and a .043 differential. The main difference, is the Z-Max Solid reactive coverstock. Don't be fooled by the surface out of the box, the THRASH takes a shine very well, and rolls well with shine!

I drilled up two THRASH's before the release date.. One drilled Rico (pin in the palm, 45deg), and one drilled 70 x 4 x 50 (no hole). Both balls roll incredible. The Rico THRASH for me rolls great in league, and the first game of tournaments (with surface). THRASH #2 (70 x 4 x 50) is a winner. Out of the box, it is great when there is oil, however after taking the surface up to 3000 I can throw it on pretty much anything!

Any release from MOTIV with the Quadfire core is a winner, the THRASH takes that proven core and puts a stronger coverstock on it to give the bowlers a huge bang for their buck. Allowing surface changes so easy it can fit into many bowlers bags, giving them an advantage. Out of the box, the THRASH is earlier than both the QZ2 Blue/Black and QZ2 Backdraft, and smoother on the backend than the Backdraft. Taking the surface up and adding polish, the THRASH is cleaner through the front part of the lane, and is still smooth and predictable on the backend. Get yours and start THRASHing your competiton!

The MOTIV Thrash holds true to its description. A medium oil ball that attacks with control, but has a violent  impact.  On fresh patterns, the sanded Z-Max Solid Reactive shell  eliminates the wet/dry reaction issue by producing a smooth and  predictable motion toward the pocket. This ball is a great compliment to the Backdraft and the QZ2 Pearl. I love the smooth characteristics of the THRASH, it is very east to control and the predictability at the break point is 2nd to none. This is a great ball for beginners, league players and tournament competitors. The THRASH will fit into any arsenal and is going to make a positive difference for you. High rev players to tweeners and everyone in between, the THRASH will work for you!!!

Here is my video for the new Thrash from MOTIV.  This ball is all about control, and is simply a beast on medium patterns, or when you need to even out some over/under.  This release isn't as strong as some of the other recent releases like the Primal Impulse, Sigma Tour, or Raptor, and it gives your MOTIV lineup a different look.  It takes the Quadfire core and wraps a new solid coverstock around it.  Which gives you a smoother reaction, similar to early MOTIV releases.

If you are looking for a great medium pattern ball then this is the one for you.  Pick one up, you wont be disapointed.

MOTIV Thrash---January 13th 2012

For me this ball is alot more than I originally expected. Released as a medium oil ball it can be quite strong depending on the layout. Its truely an excellent piece espicially at its medium price point. Most impressive is its STRONG continuaton through the pins and smooth , strong, controllable arcing motion off the friction. It fits well into any bowling arsenal as your medium to medium strong piece. For me it fits nicely between the long skid\flip strong Primal Impulse and my very predictable house shot killer Sigma Tour. I can play in and along the oil line with the Thrash and swing to the dry and unleash its power into the pins. Meshing the proven QZ2 core with it's solid coverstock make the Thrash a perfect compliment to those of you who love the Backdraft. I at this price point you just don't get this type of pop and reaction!!!!!

So come and get Motiv-ated with us---keep an open mind ---You wont be dissapointed!

The Ball: 15.1Lbs Thrash
The Layout: 3 ½ Pin, Pin placement 2 O’Clock, 1/4 Side-1/8 Finger
The Pattern: 39 FT House, 41 FT Tournament
The Positive: Very aggressive early lane, strong reaction on drier conditions.
The Negative: Does not like oil on the top end.

The Review: As a fan of the QZ2 Backdraft, I was looking very forward to throwing the Thrash as it shares the same weightblock as it. The 1000 Grit finish really give the ball a great early lane read and a much more predictable backend. On the fresher 39 FT pattern the ball really gave you drive and ended up hitting like a tank.

On the longer oil pattern I started running into the problem of a flat back end especially when the lanes started to break down. Of course with a finish like this you have to sort of expect that. Playing deeper inside seemed to hurt this ball and the best course of attack, for my game at least, was to get right and play an up-and-in line in order to get good carry. The heavier to the pocket seemed to be the better in my testing.

For the price point I think that the Thrash is a good buy and a great fresh oil ball into anyone’s bag. While I can’t say this is going to be my go-to ball from Motiv, I still believe this to be a good piece of equipment.

Overall Hook: 7/10, Another medium lane option, meant for straighter angles

Midlane Read: 8/10, this is the part of the lane where the Thrash seperates itself from our other medium products.

Breakpoint Shape: 4/10, SMOOTH. Reminds me of a urethane motion.

COMMENTS

Likes: Very pleased with this piece. Anyone who knows me is aware that I have an infinity for the TR2, a discontinued product. The Thrash is in a lot of ways similar reaction wise. The big difference is that the Thrash is a couple of feet cleaner through the front of the lane. I attribute this to the slightly weaker dynamics associated with the Quadfire core. This is a shape I can use on the fresh patterns of basically any length whether it be short, medium, and even long in some situations. The Thrash is super easy to read and work with. You know what it is going to do and it is VERY predictable. Ideally when using this product straighter angles are in order. This will keep you in play and maximize this ball's intent. This release is like a throwback to Motiv's original roots as having a solid mid lane read with a controlled break point. This in my opinion is a better benchmark ball than even the Sigma Tour because of the control factor that I like to see.

Dislikes: When the backends become spotty, this ball has to go back in the bag. It will struggle to get through the pins the right way. You can certainly get around it and that will help some, but the Primal Impulse and Sigma Tour are better options when it starts to get tight down lane.

Thrash Review

CONDITION: Medium Oil

INNER CORE: Quadfire

COVERSTOCK: Z-Max Solid Reactive

BOX FINISH: 1000 Wet Sand

15# RG: 2.55, DIFF: .043

Ball Layout: 50 X 4.5 X 45

The new MOTIV Thrash is a medium oil ball that attacks with control, but has a violent impact. On fresh patterns, the sanded Z-Max Solid Reactive shell eliminates the wet/dry reaction issue by producing a smooth and predictable motion toward the pocket. At the moment of impact, it thrashes across the deck and shreds the pins. The MOTIV Thrash is perfect for average league bowlers that prefer to throw “down and in”, and for advanced bowlers that want to play a straighter line on fresh patterns to strike with control.

I recently drilled up my Motiv Thrash and I must say that I am very excited about this release. This ball gives you a lot of bang at mid priced cost. The Thrash is one of the most predictable and forgiving balls I have ever thrown. Even with a pretty aggressive OOB surface at 1000 wet sand, it still clears the heads fairly well. Then makes a strong, smooth, and predictable move in the mid-lane, and makes a strong continuous motion in the back end. As with all Motiv balls, I love the way this ball goes through the pins, creating maximum pin carry on the right lane condition. I threw my Thrash on a 41 ft. typical house condition and I all I could do is strike!!! (See Video Below). Another great ball by Motiv and a great addition to my arsenal.

Here is my Motiv Thrash ball reaction video!!! ENJOY!!!

I found my thrash drilled with a
"rico" layout to be more skid than I liked and after taking it down to 500 from 1000 it had just enough teeth to grab the lane with control and blast the pins back. This ball truly does what it was set up to do and that's to get down the lane without losing any power or energy and still have hitting power. This is a ball that is made for all bowlers Man, Woman and child....My son loves his Thrash as much as I love mine.

Likes:Layout for this ball is 55X5.5X55 and this ball is one of the smoothest ball i have ever seen out of a pattern. This ball uses the proven quadfire core from the QZ line with a new solid cover. Because of the new cover, this ball is smoother than the recent releases, and provides a much more controled move off the friction. This ball is A must have if you are trying to find a peice that will blend wet/dry conditions or if you want to square everything up and get on top of the ball!! if you would like to check this out i have done a video of this ball at : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWRAlgcNHSk&feature=g-upl&context=G27dbc1eAUAAAAAAAAAA .This ball fits into the MOTIV line very well, as its a look we have not seen yet. For me its a really good one 2 punch on the house stuff with the sigma tour (i burn it up with the thrash and then 3rd game bank off that spot with the tour). You are really missing out if this isnt added to your bag! Dustin Baker, MOTIV Regional staff

The Bowler:

Ball speed = 17

Rev Rate = 400

PAP = 5 ¾, 3/8 up

The Ball: Motiv Thrash

Layout = 80x1x0

Axis Migration with layout = about 2 inches

Surface = 1000 light polish

The Motiv Thrash can be described in three words, smooth, smooth, smooth.

* Smooth and easy through the heads.

* Smooth read in the mid lane.

* Smooth, controlled backend.

I found the Thrash to have the same total hook as a Primal Impulse using the same layouts, but the Impulse having a much later mid lane read and sharper breakpoint.  The Thrash seems to shine on medium oil conditions as a benchmark ball or when you need a smoother and more controlled backend reaction. This ball reminds me of the original SX1 and TX1 in how smooth it reads friction but still has a hard hitting roll into the pins. Weaker layouts with the Thrash seem to work great for going up the boards on medium and slightly heavy oil patterns without giving away the pocket or sacrificing hitting power. I also found that when the shot burns up I can immediately go to my QZ2 that has the same layout and have the same reaction.  I did use this on some lighter sport shots but I found it to be a bit too much for my rev rate, but strokers should love the controlled reaction on the shorter patterns. I did love the reaction I had on the other patterns and was able to tame some of the more demanding PBA major patterns.

In short if you need a medium oil, smooth reacting ball and  love the Quadfire core you’ll love adding this to your bag.

Likes: I went with a very high VAL angle of 75 on my Thrash looking for a smooth breakpoint and a ball that would read the oil early like intended with the solid cover on MOTIV's proven Quadfire core. I have to say I am very pleased with the ball reaction I am getting with my Thrash. I drilled this with the intention of using it on fresh heavy oil shots that I could play a controlled breakpoint with and it has performed beautifully. The best part, however, is I can still use this ball when the oil breaks down. In past experiences for myself on balls that are drilled to read early once the oil starts to breakdown especially in the front-mid part of the lane the energy will burn up to quick and I'll get roll out. To my surprise with the new Thrash I can continue to move in with the shot and get a STRONG continuous backend motion even when the mid lane dries out. This is another great MOTIV ball that does a great job of blending the oil pattern and giving me the hitting power I need. If your looking for a smooth consistent strong roll with a straighter attack I would definitely recommend this ball.

Dislikes: Not really a dislike but I did have to play with the surface a little bit to get the best desired reaction for my game. My favorite has been 1000 grit with a polish using MOTIV's power gel polish.

                4 15/16” x 3 15/16”

If you have been looking for a ball that will give you a predictable, controlled reaction on even the toughest of conditions, the Motiv Thrash is the ball you want in your hands. While the core does have a higher RG than most ‘controllable’ equipment (2.55), the Z Max Solid Reactive coverstock , sanded to a 1000-grit finish, keeps the ball from making any violent motions down lane that you may not want. I laid this ball out with the intention of having something that could give me a solid midlane read without overreacting once it hit a dry spot and that is exactly what I got. This ball easily gets through the heads and then makes a smooth transition from midlane read to backend motion. Once the ball decides to make its definitive move to the pocket it revs very hard and makes a strong, smooth, continuing arc through the deck. Even without a sharp entry angle I have had no problems with the Thrash driving though the pins. Where I think this ball excels, though, is when you find yourself on a short pattern or a flat pattern. The smootherness this ball has when reading the spot translates to a very controllable and forgiving breakpoint, excellent for when the last thing you need is unpredictable jumpiness.  Consistent. Predictable. Smooth. All of these words aptly describe, and define, the Motiv Thrash.

Likes: The way the Thrash allowed me to play straighter in the front part of the lane, especially on the fresh. As the lanes transitioned, my moves weren't as drastic as they may have been with other balls, and was able to make small enough moves to keep a consistent ball reaction without sacrificing carry. Being a tweener with a moderate rev rate, the Thrash allowed me to play a bit further right of a majority of players, and stay in my "comfort zone" longer than I may have been with other balls. Even more, the Thrash rolls heavy and predictably off the pattern for optimum hitting power.

Dislikes: No dislikes on this one. The Thrash is a must for anyone looking for a control ball with hitting power.

The new MOTIV Thrash is........ Well its awesome!! Great ball to start with on most lane conditions, very versatile bowling ball and can be drilled both weak or strong and still pack that punch through the pins. First time I threw this ball after I drilled it, I wasn't even loose, and this ball kicked out the ten so hard I was amazed, after about 5 shots my  friends looked at me shaking their head on how good it looked. Not to brag or be biased, but every ball MOTIV creates is better than the next, the sky is the limit!! Go get yours!

This ball fills that gap in the arsenal, and can also be a great addition to any. Hope all of you will get a chance to drill this ball, its flat out amazing, thank MOTIV for this creation.

Likes: We have all been there, watching someone figure out that straigher lines
are the way to play at the time. Up until now, most ball just hook too
much, too early or too fast off the spot.

This ball is very clean through the front part of the lane. Which I
found amazing for a ball at 1000 grit no polish, how easily it went
through the heads, fresh or torn up. This ball is not a Hook out of the
Box ball. You can play a lot of different lines with it and get pin
thrashing results. If you are having a tough time finding your break
point change to this ball and just let it go. You can play very straight
lines with it and get the results you are looking for. What I like the
most about this ball is it gives me miss right without being "sparky" of
the break point. This ball does not hate oil and does not hate friction,
has great versatility for all bowlers.

My information

Right Handed,Ball Speed-15mph average,Rev Rate-280 average

Axis Rotation-45 degrees,Axis Tilt-15 degrees

Lanes Thrash was used on

10year old Anvilanes,31/2 year old Proanvilanes 40 foot house shot

Specs of ball tested

15 lbs 3 oz. Top weight-3.3oz. Pin 3.0"

Drilling 65 x 45 @31/2" P2 1/2 hole with 1" bit,2 1/2" deep.

MOTIV Thrash

Color-Deep Ocean Blue,Core-Quadfire,Dual Symmetrical,

Coverstock_New Z max solid reactive at 1000 wet/sand

15 lb. RG 2.55, 15 lb Diff. .043

The new Thrash gave me a heavy arcing motion. The new Z max cover

at 1000 wet/sand created earlier friction in the front part of the lane.

The Thrash begins to read the midlane quicker and gave me more

of an early roll up front, which helped smooth down the back end reaction

and helped control the overreaction on wet-dry patterns.

The smoother breakpoint reaction is great for controlling the extreme of

the wet-dry house shots.

The  Thrash's reaction never got jumpy at the back end of the patter. It can

of the spot smooth, because most of the energy was used up front.

The Thrash is a great  benchmark ball for most bowlers on a house shot.

Most bowlers should be able to play in the track area without seeing the

ball drastically over-hook when it encounters friction at the back of the pattern.

This is a great control ball. And is best used for a straighter lane to the pocket.

When this ball starts to roll up, it reminds me of urethane.  This ball doesn't jump off of the dry, it's just a smooth roll that can be used on so many conditions.  Again, this will be a benchmark ball for many bowlers.

LANE CONDITION

Length: 41 ft

Volume: light

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc): THS

The new MOTIV Thrash is a medium oil ball that attacks with control, but has a violent impact. On a fresh pattern, the sanded Z-Max Solid Reactive shell eliminates the wet/dry reaction by producing a smooth and predictable motion toward the pins. The MOTIV Thrash is perfect for average league bowlers that prefer to throw “down and in”, and for advanced bowlers that want to play a straighter line on fresh patterns to strike with control.

I recently drilled my MOTIV Thrash (45x4.5x45 w/P1.5) and I must say that I am excited about this release. This ball gives bowlers a lot of bang at a mid priced cost. The Thrash is a predictable, smooth rolling and a forgiving ball as it goes down lane. Even with a pretty aggressive OOB surface at 1000 wet sand, it still clears the heads fairly well. Then makes a strong, smooth, and predictable move in the mid-lane, and makes a strong continuous motion in the back end. As with all Motiv balls, I love the way this ball travels through the pins, creating maximum pin carry for the lane condition. I threw my Thrash on a 41 ft. typical house condition and I all I could do is strike!!  Another great ball by MOTIV and a great addition to my arsenal.

This ball works great when the impulse becomes just too much bowling ball.  I was able to get in deep and keep a tight angle to the pocket without losing carry.  The layout I chose for this was 65X4.5X55.  The ball also hits like a train. It just keeps driving through the pins.  Thanks Motiv for a great piece of equipment.

Motiv Thrash.

INNER CORE: Quadfire

COVERSTOCK: Z-Max Solid Reactive

BOX FINISH: 1000 Wet Sand

15# RG: 2.55, DIFF: .043

This ball is designed for medium oil and for straighter play.  If you like the QZ2 line, this ball is a great compliment. When you are getting over/under reaction with the QZ2s, you can move to this ball to smooth out the lane. This ball features the same core as the QZ2, but with a solid surface.

I throw the ball 18MPH, with about a 400-450 RPM

I have thrown it on both THS and 43 Foot Dead Man's Curve. I drilled a 6in Pin to PAP and placed it below my middle finger, with the CG about 5in from PAP, no extra hold needed. This gave me a very strong "roll" with no major movements. This ball was designed to play on flat patterns and on fresh oil. I can definitely say, they hit that goal. On the 43 foot pattern, I could throw it right up about 8 and it gained plenty of traction in the oil and had no major shifts, which is key early on sport patterns.

For a league bowler who doesn’t want to have to swing the ball, this is what you want to throw. For a tournament bowler who is playing on tougher patterns, this is a great first ball out of bag on the heavier oil patterns.

thrown on a house shot with a 3 man league bowled before my league without the lanes getting reoiled. get lots of carry down and was having trouble getting through the heads. sadly even by the 3rd game when the shot was about burnt up, the ball never performed. it just kept skating. the ball is a leverage drilling, which should be aggressive, but it rolled terribly, and reacted even worse. used the same ball driller that i have for the past 10 years, and he has always done a great job fitting equipment to my game, but this ball was the biggest waste of my money i've ever made on a bowling ball.

The MOTIV Thrash is another great rolling ball in the product line. It gives you a predictable type of ball motion on the lane. The Quadfire inner core and Z Max Solid Reactive cover stock with an OOB finish (1000 wet sand). The 15# has a 2.55 RG and a differential of .043. The Thrash is recommended for medium oil pattern because it is a ball that is easy to control through the entire portion of the lane. It helps to blend the over/under reaction that you get many times when bowling on a sport pattern.

I like to use the Thrash when I need to play the lanes a little straighter on a fresh oil pattern or sport condition. The controlled ball path allows me to stay in a smaller portion of the lane longer as other bowlers have to switch balls or angles to the pocket. The Thrash is the first solid ball by MOTIV to feature the proven Quadfire core. I cannot wait to see and test the performance of this ball on the USBC National shot in Baton Rouge.

This is a ball that you definitely need in your bag when you want to strike with control.

COMMENTS

I had trouble with this ball at box surface (1000), but added some polish and it's really become a reliable ball for me.  It's starts a little earlier than most of my equipment, but has a great continuous motion through the pocket, the carry is exceptional. My best line playing with it is more a down-and-in, but I am able to move a little bit inside if I have too. It's not a ball I would want to be playing 4th arrow with, but I'm a lefty, so that doesn't happen that often anyways. lol. It's a great compliment to my Recon Silver, TZ3 and Primal Impulse. The solid coverstock let's it not jump off the end of the pattern too hard and is very controllable, I call it "controlled greatness". It takes well to surface adjustments and like most Motiv equipment does what it's supposed to do. Seems to work best on Medium-Heavy volume oil patterns for me, not so well on the lighter stuff. Another great ball buy Motiv!

Bowler Stats-Ball Speed 17 MPH Rev Rate-App 275 Axis of Rotation-30 to 60 degrees Axis Tilt 22 degrees Right Handed

The Motive Thrash is designed for medium patterns. The ball performs as advertised. It pushes through the heads with ease as on house shots, revs up in the mid-lanes and makes a strong arc to the pocket.  The change in direction is very gradual, especially in comparison to any of the Motiv Assymetricals, as well as the Sigma Tour.   The Thrash can cover ample boards to be played straight up the lane, and for those with higher rev rates, can easily be used to open up the lane.  For me, this ball plays much better from the track area out.  With my lower rev rate the ball has a tendency to true up early when I swing the ball.

I have successfully used the Thrash playing the track area, and with my RICO drilled Thrash, have had great looks on the outside on this year USBC Open pattern on a synthetic surface.   As long as there is sufficient oil in the heads and the mids and ample dry down lane the Thrash is an excellent choice for house shots.  It is also a strong addition to tougher condition arsenals.

The Thrash, as with all of the recent Motiv releases, does not seem to have a surface preference as it reacted well on all bowling surfaces on which I have used it.  The surface of the Thrash takes and holds changes to surface of the ball very well.   The ball also holds up very well to repeated use.   The ball does what is supposed to do, and different layouts make a larger then normal difference in my observation.

If you use this ball as designed on medium oil patterns, it is a very effective ball.  If the heads get dry, it can burn up early, and it will skate if the oil is too far down lane.

The Thrash gives Motiv a piece of equipment for Motiv believers who needed a ball with dull cover but not too strong of a reaction, much like the SX1 was at it's introduction.    I'm very colorblind but I've heard from multiple bowlers that the ball is very pleasing to the eye and will give it good shelf appeal.
