Description: The Venom Shock is the third installment of the Venom series and again placed in the lower mid-price range. The Venom Shock coverstock has the new Turmoil MFS, which is a modified version of the Turmoil HFS coverstock on the recently released Covert Revolt. For the core, MOTIV again used the Gear Core from the previous two Venom’s and the much older GT-1.
Reaction: In a one liner the Venom Shock is very clean through the front part of the lane and provides a consistent controlled downlane motion. I have found myself throwing the Venom Shock when playing straighter angles, but when my more predictable pieces do not seem to respond fast enough downlane. The shape it provides is between a mild slower response piece and something mild that is longer and has a faster response. My style doesn’t quite allow me to throw this ball on the fresh or heavier patterns at the box surface, but that is not exactly the intention of this piece, however altering the surface to 2000 allowed it match up very well. Believe it or not the Venom Shock is a benchmark ball for me, it allows me to get straighter and still maintain a great shape downlane.
Comparisons: For me, the Venom Shock plays when the Tribal is either too long or too angular downlane. It also plays well when my Covert Revolt pushes me in on the pattern too fast, as the Venom Shock is cleaner. I have identical patterns on the Covert Revolt and Venom Shock and although the Covert Revolt is much stronger in the front and middle part of the lane they both provide continuation and similar shapes in the back of the lane. I also think because the box surface is less on the Venom Shock compared to the Covert Revolt and because I tend to play closer to the friction with the Venom Shock, it does respond faster downlane, therefore I see more backend than with the Venom Shock. As I mentioned, this will be a benchmark ball for me. The Venom Strike was not though, as it was too smooth downlane and the Venom Toxin was too long to be considered a benchmark piece. I guess for me the Venom Shock has the best attributes of both of the first two Venom’s combined.
Summary: For being one of MOTIV’s smoother motion pieces it still provides a lot of continuation, but still maintains a predictable motion. With that being said this will be making the bag for USBC’s this year in Reno.

I have my Venom Shock drilled with the pin above my ring finger, which places it about 4" from my PAP. I don't usually use layouts that close to my PAP as the motions tend to look funny to me and I have a hard time placing those pieces into my arsenal. But on the Venom Shock it gives me a really good long and smooth reaction at box finish. I used the ball on this years usbc nationals team pattern. There was a couple of shots where I saw the ball slow down and thought it was just going to take a left turn but it did not. This is a ball motion that we needed in our current lineup since a lot of our newer stuff hooks downlane. I would say this ball is a very nice compliment to the Covert Revolt, same basic motion for me just on a weaker scale. I would highly consider looking into this ball if you are looking for a medium piece that is very smooth and predictable.

The Venom Shock is a great compliment to the recent releases from MOTIV. The low RG / Medium Differential Gear core, paired with a new solid coverstock provides a smooth roll throughout, with just enough at the backend to give me consistent carry. The best way to describe it is that the ball seems to drive forward through the pin deck, with less deflection. The pins also seem to stay lower – which I’ve seen with previous MOTIV balls that utilize the Gear core.
Here is a link to my ball reaction video. In the first part I compare two Shocks, the first one is layed out 60* 5†x 40*, the second is 80* x 2†x 70*. In the second part of the video, I compare the motion of the Shock with the Covert Revolt, Sigma Sting, Primal Rage, and Cruel Intent.
After bowling with the Venom Shock for a few weeks, I’ve determined that my favorite time to use it is on a fresh medium to heavy oil pattern. It really helps to smooth out the lane from front to back. I’m able to groove it right up the track area in those conditions. On short sport patterns, this one also comes in very handy when I’m looking for a “hook/stop†type shape from an outside angle. I feel like this really widens the pocket for me, when more angular equipment would over-react on the back end. This piece is a “must†in my bag when it’s tournament time!

Hello everyone, I'm a new MOTIV Staff member and I couldn't be more happy with the variety of ball motions offered by MOTIV. Now for my first review.
The Venom Shock continues the Venom series of mid priced equipment offered by MOTIV. The Venom Strike has been a favorite ball of mine as it is very clean through the front part of the lane with a smooth continuous move of the back of the pattern to the pins. The Strike just need a little extra hook in the back to improve pin carry. The Venom Strike provides just that. The Shock is clean through the front part of the lane and make a stronger continuous move towards the pins. I have 2 Shocks, both at box finish, one is pin up with no hole and the other is pin down with a low hole. Both are very good on THS as I can use the pin down ball first to control the wet dry and then I can go to the pin up ball and open the lane up. Our league patterns are somewhat dry which doesn't allow to use my Revolts much.
This weekend I bowled in a PBA50 regional on Viper pattern and on wood lanes. I ended up polishing both Shocks with Power Gel Polish to control the dry heads from the wood lanes. Both balls carried me to an 8th place finish. The Shock is extremely versatile which makes for a great ball. Bowl MOTIVated and Shock the competition!!

BALL REACTION
Length: On the heavy-ish THS synthetics I bowl on most often, the Shock gives me easy length. It has what I would call a mild mid lane read. Doesn't exactly perform like a pearl, but closer to that length wise than a more traditional solid.
Back End: A surprising amount of backend. I expected a nice easy arc, got a pronounced backend motion. Allows for slight misses outside where it just comes screaming back to find the pocket.
Overall Hook: WAY more than expected. I expected a ball that was significantly less than my Covert Revolt. It is NOT significantly less. If anything it is barely less. Typically I will start with the Revolt, and when it starts going a bit early I can stay right where I was playing with that and play the same line. It's longer/stronger motion gives me the angularity I need to carry corners after it's time to put the Revolt away.
Midlane Read: Again, enough to keep it controllable, but "mild" at best.
Breakpoint Shape: Surprisingly drastic arc.
COMMENTS
Likes: very controllable ball for me. A lot higher hook potential than I expected, but a welcome surprise. It still plays the role I wanted from it, I just have to stay deeper than I thought I would have to. It looks awesome going down the lane with the bright orange graphics, which gives me really good feedback as to how I released it. Also, it hits like a Motiv. (the only way I have figured out how to describe that..."what was that noise?" "i hope I didn't break anything" pin shattering hit I've come to expect from my Motiv pieces.
Dislikes: The only dislike I've got so far is that OOB, even though advertised as 4000 wet sanded, it looked very shiny. For me, the surface made it a bit touchy and slightly over/under. I have since brought it to 4000 on my spinner and it rolls beautifully. Evened it out enough to completely get rid of the over/under touch nature OOB.

The Motiv Venom line has been a staple in controlled ball reaction without sacrificing hitting power. The new Venom Shock not only continues this legacy, it adds a dynamic not previously seen in this price point anywhere in the market. The brand new Turmoil MFS coverstock has great traction through medium to medium-light oil while the proven Gear core (2.48RG, .034 Diff) provides the energy to get this ball through the pindeck with ease. The inetntion of my layout was to give to me a go-to ball when the lanes began to break down and I needed something that could get down the lane cleanly but not be too jumpy, or squirly, on the backend once it encountered the burned-up track area and carry down. Not only did I achieve this goal, I found out this ball is much more versatile that I expected. Compared to the Venom Strike, the Shock is a couple of boards stronger and more angular on the backend, though it is definitevly not a ‘snappy’ motion. This ball is just strong enough for me to play on a fresher medium volume pattern because of the strength of the coverstock/core combination (I am sure with a stronger layout there would be no doubt about its traction in such conditions), yet my original idea for it has also held true. As the lanes break down I can move left with it and it still retains enough energy at the spot to make a strong motion towards the pocket and through the pins (I have so far tested it as far left as laying down 34, crossing at the arrows at 24). The Shock has become a staple in my arsenal because of its versatility and controllability, a great compliment to my Sigma Sting when it is too much ball for the conditions. When you need control without sacrificing hitting, grab the Venom Shock and Shock the World!

The Venom Shock has allowed me to play the lanes from many different angles and still get the job done. The Shock floats through the front part of the lane and make a great controllable move off the backend.

Review:
The new Venom Shock is the latest product in already a fantastic line from Motiv Bowling. What can I say about this ball is that it performs just as well as it looks. The Venom Shock is brand new solid that brings together on outstanding core/cover combination that all it wants to do is strike and strike some more. With the Venom Shock, Motiv brought in the already proven Gear core and combined it with the Turmoil MFS (Medium Friction Solid) cover, which is a modified verison on the more aggressive Turmoil Cover that can be found on the Covert Revolt. With these combinations, the Venom Shock provides a very smooth ball motion but with little more angular backend that has just outstanding continuation through the pins that they don’t stand a chance.

At first thought when I opened my UPS box and pulled the Venom Shock, I told myself this is a sexy looking ball. The colors just go well together and I have to say that the Shock is even sexier when it’s performing on the lanes. At first I threw the Venom Shock with box finish and got an over/under reaction so I put just two minutes of polish and boy did that open the lanes up. What I love about this ball is I love how smooth of a roll it has, hence the Turmoil cover, and the Gear core gives the Shock more of an angular backend motion and just like every release Motiv has come out with the continuation is just insane. Just like I thought of the Venom Strike, I fell the Venom Shock is the most versitale piece I have in my bag and I feel I can play any part of the lane and any oil condition. I haven’t seen one oil pattern that this ball will not work on. I really love this piece and I know you will too. High rev players has a something that they can use on house and still get in with enough continuation to kick out the corner pins. Medium and low rev players can still stay in their comfort zone and still score high with this piece.

Likes:The Venom shock is smooth power. I set this up to be my step down ball from the Revolt. It has the same Turmoil cover as the Revolt with a more moderate response off friction. The shock gives me a nice continuous arc to the pocket with well above average hitting power.
I get more length than my Venom Strike with more continuation through the pins. I can see most players being able to use the Shock to blend out some of those over/under reactions.

The New Motiv Venom Shock is another fantastic ball by Motiv. The Shock MFS cover can be easily tuned to cover a wide range of lane conditions. I like the ball with box (4000) surface and 2000 Sai Air pad, but my favorite finish is box with Motiv Power Gel Polish. This ball has become my new benchmark ball and is a great ball to go to when my Covert Revolt is too much. The ball is angular but predictable and hits extremely hard. The Venom Shock drives through the pins and may be my best carry percent ball at this time. The Shock fits between my Revolt and Tribal in hook and motion. It is also a little less than my Sting. I really like the new Solid Cover stocks from Motiv, they seem to be a little easier to clean and maintain even after a lot of games are rolled on them. Motiv covers are very durable and I have not had to replace a cracked Motiv, ever.
We have used the new Venom Shock on many patterns and have had very good results. Although it will score on almost anything, it shines on a Typical House Shot due to the way it blends out the friction. The Shock will let you get away with some bad shots and still carry. We did the video on a flat, heavy pattern to show the continuation through the pins even with a lower rev rate.
The look of the ball is awesome! Customers are drawn to the colors and Logos and we made sure to put one on the front counter during Glow Bowl. The Snake Head really pops out! The retail price on this ball is very good. I feel you get more than you pay for with the Venom Shock.
Summary:
The Venom Shock is my favorite Venom so far.
The new Solid covers by Motiv are fantastic.
A great fit between the Revolt and Tribal
The Shock can be used on multiple patterns, cover tunes easily.
The Shock is a great ball at a great price.

Venom Shock
So another release from Motiv has hit the shelves and I know all of you are saying it can’t get better than where it is today. Prepare to be SHOCKED! This lower cost release does everything that the big boys do and more. For me its surprisingly strong on the back and provides that insane continuous motion through the ins that all of Motiv nation has come to know and love.
The Shock is listed as a medium to dry ball but is incredible on the THS providing a consistent and predictable shape throughout the lane. Using my favorite layouts both pin above the bridge and one with pin below I was able to maximize the usage of the Shock over varying conditions. During my recent visit to the USBC nationals in Reno the shock was my go to ball after one game in Double and Singles. The extra length with still sharp finish shape it provides me allowed me to retain my original shape when the Sigma Sting became a bit too strong and early. This ball is very versatile and will be an incredible addition to your arsenal along side the likes of the Primal Rage, Sigma Sting, Covert Revolt and Cruel Intent. Don’t miss out on this one and the PRICE is RIGHT!

My Motiv Venom Shock: Drilled Stack Leverage
The Venom Shock features the new Turmoil MFS (Medium Friction Solid) Cover.
The ball comes out of the box at 4000 grit sanded, but for me I had to shine it.
Conditions I have used the Venom Shock on: various house/modified house shots.
Where it fits in my bag: It's a great benchmark ball and a great ball for the local THS.
When I use it: This is a ball that all level of players can use during their nightly league sessions. Tournament players will see this ball in their hand around game 3-4 if on a longer pattern.

Description: Venom Strike, Venom Toxin, and now Venom Shock! The 3rd coming of the Venom series is here armed with the new Turmoil Medium Friction Surface coverstock which is a modified version of the Turmoil High Friction Surface coverstock on the Covert Revolt. It’s no Shock that at the core of this gem is the Gear core.
Out of box surface: 4000 grit sanded
Reaction: Shockingly clean and predictable. I expected a nice easy arc with a moderate backend motion, and that’s exactly what I got. I really like how it doesn't come screaming back in the friction, mild and moderate all the way down lane.
Conditions
THS (40 feet): The Venom Shock has allowed me to play straighter angles the entire night of league, standing ten and playing down five the Venom Shock has allowed hang glided through the heads and made a solid controllable move upon reaching the backend. I was pleased that I was able to play right the entire night not moving left unless I chose to.
Viper Pattern (37 feet): I stood left with the Venom Shock and it still retained enough energy at the spot to make a smooth motion towards the pocket with good continuation. The Shock is very smooth down lane making it ideal for high friction patterns.
Summary: The Venom Shock is definitely Motiv’s smoothest pieces to date, this is a ball that will see action when the lanes transition or when the lanes start out with a lot of friction. As smooth as the Tribal is the ball is without a doubt smoother but packs a healthy punch upon impact. I encourage you treat yourself to some Shock therapy, your game will thank you for it.

The new solid purple Venom Shock produces a violent reaction on light to medium oil conditions. It attacks the lane with the proven Gear™ weight block and new cover technology – Turmoil™ MFS (Medium Friction Solid) Reactive, which is a modified version of the more aggressive shell featured on the Covert Revolt. This core and cover combination provides a smooth yet angular backend motion that strikes with devastating continuation.
As far as shelf appeal, the Venom Shock does not disappoint. The vibrant orange logo really pops off the purple shell. And, for those that are into glow-in-the-dark bowling, the logos on the ball glow orange and green.
The Venom Shock really does have it all – performance, looks, and a great price point. The most shocking thing about this ball may be that you get such outstanding performance at such an affordable price!
Review:
I have drilled up two New Motiv Venom shocks, after all the hype I knew one would not be enough! My first Venom Shock (which I will refer to as Shock One) has my favorite layout (55 X 4 1/2 X 40) which puts the pin just slightly over my bridge and fingers. My second Venom Shock (which I will refer to as Shock Two) layout is 50 X 4 1/4 X 80 which for me puts the pin under my fingers below the bridge. Up to this point, ball the Motiv Venom Shock as lived up all the hype it got from the the 2014 USBC Masters where everyone was talking about it! This ball really is shockingly good, for several reasons. For one, you can not beat the performance of this ball at its Mid Level Price point, you get alot of bang for your buck! Two, the ball simply rolls amazing on a wide variety of lane conditions. Which leads me to discuss the ball reaction of my two Venom Shocks. Shock One glides through the heads with ease with a strong and aggressive motion in the midlane with a smooth but angular motion in the back end. The continuous backend on this ball is out of this world, its not super angular off the spot, but when it comes it does not stop. The ball goes through pins with a purpose. My Shock Two gives me a different look than the Shock One, but it allows me continue to throw the amazing #purpleball. The Shock Two gives me slightly more read in the front part of the lane and a stronger but smoother move in the midlane with a nice smooth but continuous back end reaction. Compared to the Shock One, Shock Two is much more smoother overall, which allows me to keep my angles straighter and more in front of me. This is very helpful when I am playing on fresh or if I am playing on more difficult lane conditions. My Shock One is much more angular and is great for me when I can move left, open my angles, and throw it right off of the friction. For me, this would occur more often on a typical house shot (fresh or break down) or after lanes have broken down on more flat or difficult lane conditions. This proves how versatile the Venom Shock cover and core combination really is. I never changed the surface from the box surface of 4000 because the ball is already that GOOD. Overall, one of my favorite things about the Venom Shock is the confidence I have when throwing one due to the amazing continuous backend reaction. It strikes ALOT!!! It really does free the swing up knowing you have great ball reaction. We cannot just focus on how good it rolls, but the #purpleball looks GREAT too! Do not waste anymore time and drill yours today!!!

The Venom Shock falls in place when the Tribal is too angular or too long and when the Revolt forces me to open the lane up too quickly. The Purple ball is still clean yet is a controlled hook down lane. I have found this ball most beneficial on patterns that are either lighter volume or less than 39ft. I prefer just a touch of 2000 for the surface to knock the shine off. I do it by hand not by ball spinner.

This new ball form MOTIV is absolutely astonishing! It is the gem I grab when the Revolt is too strong. This ball gives me a controlled yet aggressive motion off the spot. The shell is very versatile and will adapt to many different levels of surface changes. This ball is between my Revolt and my Venom Toxin. If you ask me, I do not believe you can layout one that you will not like. This ball really shines on a THS as it is so predictable yet very strong and CRAZY CONTINUOS through the rack. I guess I could say that I see it as a controllable skip/flip that will not get jumpy on me. The Shock really allows me to loosen up my arm knowing that it will do what I think it will.
This is one of my top 3 Neomarks that MOTIV has made. The colors really stand out on the Shock and make you do a double take as it goes down the lane. Not only does it have shelf appeal, it is a steal at its price point. So much awesomeness in one box it doesn’t make sense. Go get #shocked!!!!

The Venom Shock has re-defined the idea of ‘bite’ in the backend. MOTIV has chosen to continue expanding upon the use of the proven Gear core that dates back to the GT1 and wrapped in a whole new cover stock, the Turmoil MFS (Medium Friction Solid). This ball now provides a smooth ball motion but yet surprising angularity from the back end.
When I begin using my Shock, at first, it was difficult to find a suitable situation that called for the amount of strength I had witnessed in the backend with this ball. It was not until I was placed on a pattern that was not ‘friendly’ for those on the left side of the lane that the true potential for me came through. There was no denying it, for someone with a higher ball speed and slightly above average rev rate; a heavier volume oil pattern can offer quite the challenge. Conventional wisdom may dictate that a ball with surface and earlier roller may be the best approach, but after going back to back 180s and losing close to 20 pins each game on the field, this theory just was not cutting it. At the start of my third game, I grabbed my pin above the bridge and CG in the palm of my hand Venom Shock. With this ball in hand, with a simple ‘up the boards’ approach playing the 5 board, I was able to reach the pocket with the power to carry and the energy retaining in the back end of this ball. Although I may not have made the cut from the early hole, my scores increased 30 to 40 pins in the following 3 games the minute a switched to the Venom Shock.
Fast forwarding to a month later, with a second Venom Shock in my hand and a much more controlled approach drilled in this one, a new dimension was quickly made apparent to me. Placing the pin to the left of the ring finger and the CG once again placed in my palm, I now have a controlled ball motion but yet, I did not lose any strength from the Turmoil MFS cover stock and hitting power. This Venom Shock promised the angle still needed but with a more predictable respond on the lanes. The first night of leagues, I racked up 1040 for 4 games while shooting back to back 279s the final 2 games playing a simple 8 to 5 line. The performance I have just shared speaks for itself showing the flexibility of the ball. MOTIV has once again redefined the standard that is to be a mid-range\light-medium oil ball in this industry. What are you waiting for? It’s time to put yourself through ‘Shock Therapy’ to sharpen up your game.

Yes, this ball has let me in shock at times!
This is probably MOTIV's most popular bowling ball ever and there many reasons why. If you don't have one yet, I encourage you to get your hands on one ASAP.
I mostly like to throw this ball on...well almost anything. Big angles in short patterns, Medium Patterns, and yes Long Patterns too!
It does work straighter as well!!!
I was skeptical at first, but oh my... I can bowl with the Venom Shock on flat fresh long patterns and house shots alike!
And the hit? Well... I throw probably the sickest messenger on my life with this one...
