LANE CONDITION

THS (3 different centers)

Sport Conditions (Kegel Middle Road, Kegel Beaten Path, PBA Viper, PBA Scorpion)

BALL REACTION

Length: 8/10, this piece showed no signs of checking up early in terms of the friction production of the coverstock.

Back End: 7/10, a little bit smoother than a similar drilled Thrash Frenzy, would be considered a moderate response to friction.

Overall Hook: 5/10, seems to be an excellent middle of the road piece. For Motiv equipment, we have options that are stronger and weaker than the Toxin.

Midlane Read: 4/10, ball is surprisingly clean for a low RG core (GEAR - 2.48). I was very surprised, but this also leads me to believe that this is a cover dominant ball.

Breakpoint Shape: 6/10, Again I wouldn't classify this as a fast response like a Primal Scream or Thrash Frenzy. It is however, a moderate response to friction and does "pop" at the end of the pattern well for a LOW RG core.

COMMENTS

Likes: The new Venom Toxin reminds me of a Sigma Tour reaction. Those who really enjoyed that piece of equipment will fall in love with the Toxin. I find the Toxin to have the same motion on the lane, but it is a good 4-5' cleaner through the front and middle of the lane. My best looks with the Toxin are on patterns that are beginning to develop a hook spot to throw to. Games 3,4,5 when I see some transition, but there isn't a defined spot down lane just yet is when this ball will shine. I would also like to add that I feel this is a terrific benchmark reaction and a ball that someone can build an arsenal around especially if the bowler tends to compete in higher friction environments.

Dislikes: The one thing I have noticed with the Venom Strike and Venom Toxin is how soon the core tends to stand up for me at times. I know I mentioned before that the Toxin appears to be a cover dominant ball. However, there are certain situations (particularly wet/dry side to side and a lot of friction in the front part of the lane) where the core actually stands up and burns off all my tilt and rotation. For me the Toxin is a much better match of cover and core than the Venom Strike. I am liking the cleaner cover (Atomix Hybrid Radial Reactive) much more.

Motiv Venom Toxin

Video for the Stone Street pattern can be seen @

Bowler:  MattyG

Speed: around 15mph on the monitors
Rev Rate: 300+
Axis rotation: Med/Low
Axis tilt: Med/high
PAP: 4 1/2" right and 1/8 up

Layout: 70* X 5" X 45*

Surface: OOB @ 2000 Polished

Lane type:  Brunswick and AMF

Oil pattern:  Kegel Stone Street(43'), 2013 Nationals Team Pattern (40)
              and 38' THS (AMF)

Review:  Motiv's latest Hybrid entry is a much needed addition to their mid line performance equipment.  I based my drilling layout on the performance of my Venom Strike.  I received the VENOM with a 2" pin to CG.  I naturally drilled it "pin under".  I got more than I bargained for!  The Venom Strike would actually roll out on THS fresh oil due to how strong the cover and core combo.  The drilling did not help.  I wind up using the Venom Strike on sport shots, such as Shark, because of it's ability to roll through anything despite it's "med/light oil" label.  With the Venom TOXIN I requested a longer pin to CG in hopes of doing a weaker drilling so I could use it more on THS conditions.  The Hybrid cover makes the Toxin clear the fronts where the Strike would not.  The 5" x 45* drilling made sure it did not roll out.  Overall I got a much smoother move off the dry without the loss of power through the pins.  It seems as of late I was getting either extreme roll or extreme skid/flip from Motiv.  This ball was exactly what the doctor ordered.  On fresh I could play right and dryer conditions I wasn't forced in front of the ball return.  Due to the Hybrid cover I am sure I could tweak the surface to get better reactions on different conditions but as of now the 2000 polished OOB surface is great.

Experience on 43' fresh pattern (Stone Street):  This pattern is what I try to use in all my videos.  It is not an easy THS but it is not the most difficult either.  I was very limited in the zone I could play because of how "clean" the cover was and the overall length of the pattern.  I got so much more length than the Venom Strike.  I had to be more precise with speed and rotation or the ball was behind the headpin.  Defiantly not a big monster ball!  Would NOT be my first ball out the bag on this shot if I had to choose.  Those with a bit more hand might disagree though. I could have knocked the polish off and got a better reaction but I wanted to keep it "box" for testing.

Experience on THS (38'):  This is my "Giant Wall"  that I get to bowl on in league.  It drives me nuts because no good shot goes REWARDED.  Everything is over/under and no one who has more than a 200 rev rate can stay in one zone too long with out things going wrong.  I usually can only use something like my Thrash Frenzy drilled very weak.  The Venom STRIKE rolls out about a foot past the arrows or I have to play 25 at the arrows to 12 at the break point with every drop of speed I got.  Not my cup of tea.  The Venom Toxin gave me the ability to stay in the "Track area" all nigh with very little adjustment to keep it striking.  The entry angle was not as good as the Thrash Frenzy but it was much easier not to leave a split when I missed a board or 2.  I was able to stay out of trouble and score well when everyone around me was scratching their heads.

Experience on 2013 Nationals Team Oil Pattern:  First let me say that the bowling center does an amazing job at replication oil conditions for Nationals.  About as close as your going to get without actually being there.  The key to this pattern is to play as close to the O.B. on the right as you can, for as long as you can.  Due to the volume difference between Stone Street and the Nationals pattern I though I was going to be in trouble… I wasn't.  This ball moved so well off the spot.  I think it was the fact that the pattern was 3' shorter.  For whatever reason, this ball was amazing.  A miss inside and it still held, while a board into the O.B. seemed not to matter either.  As the patten broke down  I was able to just make 1 and 1 moves left and the reaction held. Shot a little over 700 with no warm-up.  Played 7 @ the arrows to 5 @ the breakpoint to start.  I would highly recommend getting one of these if you are heading out this year.  With the new conditions this year, this is what it will take to score!!

Conclusion:  I really see the need for the Toxin in the line-up.  In my opinion I would place this ball above the Thrash Frenzy not below it, on the Motiv Ball reaction chart. It is stronger due to the core shape, regardless of the flare potential. The color is not as vibrant as the pictures look on-line but it is still gets people starring at it on the ball return.
Lower rev player might want to drill this ball with a bit shorter pin to see the best reaction.
Tweeners are free to make the pin to pap distance dictate how that want the ball to read, either early or later.
Crankers will love this ball with a longer pin.
Still not crazy about the synonyms for names, but whatever.

Venom Toxin Review
An interesting fit for sure for me as I wasn’t sure what to expect initially from this piece. I liked my Venom Strike although it didn’t see much action with my bag full of Motiv Primal Screams ( my GO TO ball) –When it did see action I was very impressed with its ability to provide me with a different look and shape when compared to the Scream. So out comes the new Venom Toxin and Im thinking where does this fit for me. My new Thrash Frenzy gives me the long and strong flip action I so desire and my Primal Scream gives me that strong read, Strong finish on heavier patterns so Im covered right? Oh..but maybe I was a bit hasty. The new Venom Toxin just fits so well between those two pieces for me its like a fit made in heaven. Its longer than my Scream and strong like my Frenzy but really reads the pattern in the oil providing me an incredible look a bit deeper than the frenzy with all the read of the scream! I was impressed with the ability of this piece to get through the oil and still finish with a strong powerful angle and the motion through the pins I’ve come to expect from a Motiv ball. The color is Amazing and looks even better in person. A pin up drilling gave me the length I needed to get the ball down the lane and the strong motion to the pocket opened up the lane for me left to right. Don’t miss you chance to get this piece as it will be out of your bag quite a bit and gives you a good option on the fresh as well as through the transition. Venom Toxin is definitely all ball that will see plenty of action for me!

LANE CONDITION

Review:

The Motiv Venom Toxin is the latest ball in the great Motiv Line. The Venom Toxin is the hybrid version of the great Venom Strike that came out earlier in the year. Don’t let the bright colors fool you; this hybrid is deadly on the lanes. The new Venom Strike is built behind one of the best cores ever made the Gear Cord that produces low RG for easy revs, low track flare, and retain striking power. What makes the Venom Toxin different form the Venom Strike is a new twist to the Atomix, the new Atomix HR hybrid cover that skids cleanly down the lane with violent backend reaction. And with this ball finishes, all I can say is wow.

INNER CORE:      Gear
COVERSTOCK:      Atomix Hybrid Radial Reactive
FINISH:              2000 Grit / Power Gel Polish

Comments:

The Venom Toxin is becoming one up my favorite balls in already the wonderful line of Motiv products. What I like about this ball is that it’s very clean down the lane and the hybrid coverstock gives the Venom Toxin gives it nice length and backend motion. I have to say that the backend motion on this ball just blows my mind. This is by far the best backend motion I have ever seen on a bowling ball. And the striking power is just unbelievable.  But want I like about the most is the versatility is just the same as the Venom Strike. What I like is you can have a nice one, two punch with the toxin and the strike and depending on how the lanes dictate from night to night. You can’t go wrong with the Venom Toxin by Motiv.

Likes: Clean ball motion, violent backend reaction, retain striking power

Dislikes: None

I recommend this ball to all bowlers

Bowler Stats-Ball Speed 15.5 MPH Rev Rate-App 280 Axis of Rotation-30 to 60 degrees Axis Tilt 9 degrees Right Handed PAP-5 over, 1/4" up

The Motiv Venom Toxin is designed for light to medium patterns according to Motiv.  Motiv's description is "On light to medium oil, it is clean down the lane with a smooth, but angular backend that strikes with destructive force."

The ball is as advertised. It pushes through the heads with ease revs up very late in the mid lanes despite it's low RG and make a strong but continous move at the end of the pattern with plenty of energy saved for downlane movement.  The core/cover combo allows me to play up the lanes with it's later movement and lower hook rating.  I am  someone who prefers keeping the ball in front of me so this ball was easy for me to adapt to. It has worked beyond expectations as most of the Motiv does.  It slides in oil and reads the friction.  The Core of the Ball, the Gear, revs late in the lanes due to it's coverstock despite it's lower RG and in combination with they hybrid coverstock, creates a very smooth move to the pocket.  If I tug the Toxin into the soup the ball skates but as long as the Toxin finds a part of the lane to read it will still hit but leave a few corners.   I think it will be a great match up for me later in long format tournaments after the Primal Series become too much and the Ascent's will still be not enough.

I've used this ball in a wood center I was having over/under issues on.  This ball has taken away much of the over/under reaction and allowed me to find the pocket consistently.  I've gone from shooting 630-650 weekly to 680-710 weekly.

If you use this ball as designed, it will be a very effective ball. It has carried exceptionally well.  This ball is very manageable.

I'm very colorblind but the Green swirl with the Neomark Graphic makes the ball very pleasing to the eye and gives it great shelf appeal, and looks awesome in the glow bowl/black light environment!

Layout: 70* X 4.5" X 40*

Review:
I have been pleasantly surprised with this ball and actually found this ball to have better motion for me than my Venom Strike ( 60x4 3/4 x45 ). The Hybrid cover on this ball provides excellent predictability and motion through the fresh mids with a nice controllable continuous motion off the dry.

Having recently obtained an elbow injury, I was able to use my Venom Toxin to control the fresh THS all night with a 10 board move occurring over the course of 3 games keeping my down lane target the same and staying semi soft with my release. Even if I did come through hard on a release the ball was not overly jumpy but did have a strong angular entry with more drive through the pocket.

With the Venom Strike, this can be the one ball for a THS league. It is extremely versatile, and controllable. This ball can fit anyone's game, and is a must have for anyone's bag. I would classify this as more of a medium condition ball, than a light condition ball, from my point of view.

I have placed this ball above my Thrash Frenzy. The Toxin is more controllable as my Frenzy is more angular. Both balls have the length down lane I need for my game, but the motion and reaction I am getting from the Toxin puts it a step above my Frenzy.

Crankers will love this ball!!!

Comments:

I intended to use the Venom Toxin as something a little bit, but not too much different than my TZ3, which has been my money ball at one house I bowl at. I used the same layout and let the surface dictate my ball motion. I was really looking for this ball to be a little stronger, but it is a bit too strong for where I intended to use it. I'm going to try it at a house that has a little less friction up front. When I do use it and throw it to the right spot, wow. The hitting power is great, I was so happy to see a Gear Core ball come out that wasn't a solid. What a great looking piece too. I would have to say this ball is a little more in the Medium than Light oil section. I even took the surface to 4000+Polish and it's a little too strong for where I intended, but I do really think I'm gonna like this ball at a different house. The motion overall is very similar to other Motiv products I've tried. But also stronger than I thought it would be, I would just keep that in mind when drilling it out. I am not a cranker, but I think this ball would be fantastic for those of you who are.

Likes: Clean ball motion, strong backend reaction, great striking power, COLOR!

Dislikes: Stronger than I thought it would be.

The Ball: MOTIV Venom Toxin

The Layout: Traditional Stacked Leverage. 3“ Pin with it set above the ring finger. Just under 1/2 Side and 1/4 Finger with no weight hole.

The Style: Power Stroker. (Speed 16.5-17, Rev rate untested since shoulder was injured.)

The Conditions: Riverside Lanes in Laughlin, Nevada. 40 FT House. Cerbat Lanes in Kingman, Arizona 41 FT Kegel Main Street. Both high friction environments.

The Plus: Blends the wet/dry and gives a very smooth transition through the lane. Retains power even as the lanes breakdown.

The Minus: Ball motion may be too weak for lower rev players.

The Score: 5 out of 5.

The Review: After the glowing review I gave to the Thrash Frenzy I was eagerly anticipating the next in the line to come to my door. Unfortunately, when I heard that it was to be a hybrid I was a little discouraged. I had bad luck in the past with matching hybrids to my own game and didn’t have much hope for this one. However, when I was told that it was going to be built on the symmetrical Gear weightblock, my interest was peaked once again. I can honestly say that the Toxin has lived up to the same expectations I had for the Frenzy and has established itself as the step-down ball in my bag.

I drilled the Toxin very similar to my Frenzy as that has quickly become my new benchmark and I wanted to gauge my reactions to how I viewed it. I began by taking the ball down and bowling on the standard 40 FT house shot which was out during our Men’s League in Laughlin. With not so much as a ball of practice before throwing it in the league, I was able to dial-in quickly and averaged 235 for the night. It was extremely easy to distinguish the motion of the Toxin and the difference it had from the Thrash.

The Toxin has a much smoother downlane motion than the Frenzy and blends the oil well for my style of game. It is a bit more arcing than the Frenzy but still has that backend reaction that allows players to move a little deeper without losing entry angle. I actually found myself scoring higher as the lanes broke down and was able to easily stay ahead of the changing oil. While for my game it is a stepdown from the Frenzy, I can see where a higher rev player may see this as a harder hooking ball based solely on the difference in coverstock reaction.

On the Main Street pattern, I found that the Toxin continued to read the same with a very smooth transition both inside and out. The only negative I could see with this ball would be if you were someone who wasn’t able to put much lift on the ball at all. I found flathanding the ball caused the hybrid to spin in the oil as again it blends the transition. All-in-all, this ball is a great arsenal ball for me and could be a great piece of equipment in nearly every bowler’s bag.

While this is not by go-to ball as of yet, this is definitely going to be the step-down ball in my bag regardless of condition. Versatile and pretty fun to look at on the lane, the Venom Toxin is sure to please any who throw it.

The Venom Toxin has the proven gear core with a new Atomix Hybrid Radical reactive cover stock.
I've had very good results with Hybrids in the past so I was anxious to see what the Toxin would do. I drilled this one up with the pin above the bridge. I have a Sigma Tour with this layout that has turned into one of my favorites. This ball is very clean through the fronts, even with the low RG the Toxin gets down the lane with ease. In box finish it reads just a touch sooner than the OOB Thrash Frenzy.

For my house shot I took the polish off with a 3000 Siaair pad. It did not match up well for me on a fresh house shot until I changed the surface. Then it gave me a smoother motion down lane. I could move my feet left an swing it pretty much as far right as I wanted and still get it back. Thats nice to see for someone with my rev rate.

On sport patterns it gives me a step down ball that will read the track quickly with a smooth aggressive move to the pocket. On the 2013 Nationals pattern it gave me a good look late in the shift.

Two places I can see using the Toxin. On high friction surfaces like wood or later in the block when the lanes have started to transition. Hitting power on these conditions has been very good.
For me it fits in just above my QZ2 Backdraft and below my Sigma Tour.

Thanks

Overview

The  Venom Toxin for me is a real special ball.

In the Detroit area, the Metro Detroit USBC along with Blumark Group started a women's series called Women's Rip Ten Series. They have 6 events from Oct.-May.with a final for the the top 16 in points.Usually between.40-50 women compete at each tournament.Women from around the state and out of state are allowed to bowl.So this is and important and prestigious  series.

The series bowls at two different houses. One has old wood lanes and the other has high friction AMF HPL lanes. They put down a slightly modified house shot 42'  at these last two tournaments..I could always hit the pocket ad nauseum,at these two houses, but couldn't carry. When the Venom Toxin came along,it was a blessing to me.On March 10,2013 I used the Toxin 7 of 8 games. To win the title. The ball got through the wood heads and didn't over react on the backend. The coverstock  helped it get though the burnt heads, and the low Rg core and medium differential give me a great read in the late midlanes, and control the backends on this fresh shot.As the shot broke down I was able to move 5-10 boards left of the other women. This greatly helped me keep control of the breakpoint.By controlling the breakpoint increased my pin carry. This increase in carry greatly helped me mentally.Knowing that I was able to stay within my game and not have to try to find the reaction I needed in another ball.

On Sunday,April 7,2013 at the house with the AMF HPL lanes, the early friction is present early.Using the Toxin 6 games of 7 to win back to back titles.
The Venom Toxin let me play at least 5 boards left of all the other women to start.Starting 25 over 13.The milder coverstock and low diff. help the ball get through the heads and the low RG helps the ball rev up in the midlane, and control the backend when there is  early friction in the heads on fresh oil.As the lanes transitioned I could just move left and stay in the oil. Moving about 30 over 17.On the synthetic lanes this ball had more backend than on the wood lanes. But I was still able to control the breakpoint without any violent over reaction. On the synthetic HPL lanes, the increase of friction at the backend helped create even greater entry angle, which increased pin carry. This ball is a winner. My favorite so far.

The Venom Toxin is a great ball. If you don't have one yet,go out and get one.It will not disappoint.

Ball: Venom Toxin
Core: Gear
Coverstock: Atomix Hybrid Radial Reactive
Finish:    2000 Grit / Power Gel Polish
Layout: 55° x 5”x 65°
Ball Speed: 18.5 mph
Rev Rate: 450+
This ball is a great compliment to the Thrash Frenzy when the oil is slightly heavier. Utilizing the same layout I was able to achieve the same ball motion and reaction allowing me to ball down to the Frenzy as the lanes break down. This ball fits well into the game of a high rev rate player. It does not burn up down the lane when it transitions to the breakpoint maintaining plenty of energy. The breakpoint is a longer transition on the backend compared to the Frenzy and not quite as readable but it does not create the over under you find with many other balls that tend to hook earlier.
Overall Rating: 4 out of 5

The Venom Toxin is a very unique piece that fits well in my arsenal between my 2Cruel and my Thrash Frenzy. This ball will go farther than my 2Cruel will if wants to start reading early and it has a very controllable breakpoint. The Gear core allows for easy revs down the lane and tons of stored energy, so going through the pins the right way is not a problem at all with the Venom Toxin.

On shorter patterns, this ball allows me to move right and play with the straighties and not worry about the ball overreacting on me while still letting me read the pattern. This is possible because of the awesome new coverstock and the proven Gear core combination. It’s an awesome match.

Venom Toxin

Watch out for the bite of the new bright green Venom Toxin. The Toxin is so versatile that it is quickly becoming the first ball out of my bag on almost every lane condition. I have used the ball on everything from Shark, to house patterns. The toxin is also a great compliment as a step down to the Primal Scream. In comparison it has more length than both the Primal Scream and the Venom Toxin. however it is not as angular on the back end as the Primal Scream. This ball allows me to open up the lane on drier patterns and play straighter on medium volume patters. For me this ball replaces the Sigma Tour.

The Motiv Venom Toxin will catch your eye. It has a beautiful bright green cover that glows in the dark. The ball is very clean getting through the heads and then has an angular reaction at the breakpoint. The hitting power of this ball is superb. I can let this ball go and count on a consistent reaction and finish to crush the pins. This is a great choice on a fresh house condition and provides for easy adjustments as the lanes begin to break down. I find myself not needing to switch balls throughout a league match.
My customer’s absolutely love this ball as their scores have increased.

I have used this ball on a medium oil pattern at 41 feet on a wood surfaces.
I am right handed and throw the ball at 17mph. I use the Motiv Power Gel Clean to keep the ball clean and ready to react at all times.

This is a awesome ball to add to your arsenal. It is one of my favorites. Thank you Motiv for another excellent ball.
