Yes.  Motiv keeps their proprietary information to themselves and doesn't list their manufacturing ball surface process like most do so find a surface that works for you and stick to it.  Your stats., lane condition and type of lane surface will have a lot to do on how you keep your equipment.

I have done mine P500-skip a  grit-P4000 and I have done P360/P500/P1000/P2000/P4000.  Honestly I see little difference on a modified White pattern that I use my 2 Cruel mainly on.  For me the 2 Cruel is too strong a cover/core to match up on house shots.  So, I don't use it on those kinds of lane patterns.

my .02 .. i kept the 2cruel at oob for over a month and loved the reaction... well it was starting to look ugly (cleaning wasnt enough) so i took into my proshop and asked to have him rehit the ball with 4k to freshen up the cover and i didnt like the result ...

the ball was now 10x stronger on the same house shot ..i was using the 2cruel all 3 games easily in oob and after the refresh i can get 1 game at best... so in my case 4000 wet sand oob is not the same as 4000 abralon....

I find the same with my Motiv equipment.  OOB the balls don't seem as strong as advertised.  But when I resurface them, they are quite a bit stronger.  Now I resurface the ball before drilling.  This way I have a surface I can reproduce easily when it needs it.
