I'm joining a league that still has wood lanes in play. The last time I subbed in this league I observed a lot of bowlers abuse the pattern with big assym balls and a lot of surface, probably to blend out wet/dry. Lot of transition and burn sets in quickly.
I fair well with the Venom Shock Pearl on just about anything light to medium, never too jumpy and with my rev rate offers a high degree of push and control. Recently picked up a Golden Jacket. Would ball and layout do you favor for this condition?
Thinking maybe a Hydra 5.5" x 65 as a backup to the VSP
Current bag
Golden Jacket 60x4.38x50
Venom Shock Pearl 5"x 45

Me personally on wood lanes, I would lean more toward the Hydra that the Golden Jackel (Stroker, down & in., 275-300 rev rate.)
Others may have a different opinion based on their game.

Wasn't sure if a weaker drilled Hydra would compliment the VSP. There seems to be overwhelming acknowledgement that the Hydra is stronger than advertised

Tag Cannon would be perfect on wood lanes (weaker than Hydra) but alas discontinued.
