Asymmetric Venom!!!
« on: March 18, 2019, 01:03:01 PM »
The Venom line just got some new power with the Venom Recoil.   Featuring the new Gear APG (Asymmetric Performance Gain) weight block this Light-Meduim ball is very impressive.  With the upcoming balance-hole rule change, MOTIV created the asymmetric weight block to give ball drillers more layout versatility when no balance-hole is used.  Wrapping this ball with the Coercion MFS (medium friction solid) reactive cover stock, you have a ball which has gives you awesome performance at a great value.  I see this ball getting lots of use in both league and tournament play!  You will want to pick up one or two of these for your bag!

Wow, all that typing and said not a damn thing I couldn't read from the marketing material.

Okay Motiv fans, here is a real opinion from someone who owns and has used this ball.

First thing you need to know is this, it actually hooks less off the friction than either the Venom Shock or Venom Shock pearl. It covers about the same number of boards over all, just in more of a long loopy motion instead of a sharp snap like the Pearl or a semi-sharp hook like the Venom Shock original.

It is very controllable. It doesn't surprise you when it hits friction. It's probably going to be a very good option for flat patterns, but I haven't thrown it on one yet. I intend to add more surface and give it a toss on something with more/longer oil in the near future.

In all honestly, I generally avoid taking an asymmetric ball to Nationals, but I probably will take this one. I can see it being very useful for the first game or more of team and doubles. Once you have to tighten your line and move left, it will have to go back in the bag as that doesn't seem to be it's forte.

Again, just my opinion of having throw this ball for five games so far...your mileage may vary.

Give him credit for not double posting this thread like last time (staffers lol).  Thanks for the skinny Milo.  Awfully tempting.

No staff for me. I'm not exclusive to Motiv balls, almost so, but not quite(I throw a HB from time to time). And I prefer the Storm bags, specifically the rolling thunder line.

Besides, with all the balls I buy, Motiv doesn't want me for their staff, it would seriously impact their bottom line. #Ballwhore

Turd polishing isn't for everyone and going out on a limb and guessing is not really Milo's thing.   That said Motiv's staffers on here well lets just say Milo has incidentally did a much better job to get me to pick up a couple of Venom balls (glad I did) than the staffers double posting threads full of cut and paste.

+1.  Thanks for that.  Sure I will end up with this ball sometime this year.

For me it rolls almost exactly as you described yours... The only difference for me is that the Recoil has a faster response to friction than the Shock, but it is smoother than the VSP.

I tried mine on a flat pattern last Sunday and ball is really, really good. I was able to keep the pocket in front of me on fresh and the ball is so predictable and consistent even on not-so-good shots.

It is like a Venom Shock but with added length and a tad stronger downlane for me.

I tried playing steeper angles with this one and the further the ball allowed me to move was past third arrow, around 15-16... anything right of that and the ball wasn't strong enough to make it to the pocket, which is not a bad thing, since the straighter I can play, the better my carry is.

I also agree on the National statement, I usually carry only symmetric pieces, but I think this one is coming with me on June.
