Title: Ball Under Venom Shock
Post by: scotts33 on August 04, 2015, 10:24:08 AM
Looking for my best ball under my Shock.  The Shock has been a great ball for me last 1/2 of last season an continues to be.  I feel it's either the Graffiti Tag or the Venom Panic.  Not enamored with the Ascent line as I have had a Pearl Ascent.

My Shock is drilled pin in ring and works from medium to light-medium.  Me....I am a  right hander senior with average speed 17 mph in heads and 14.5 - 15 at deck on CATS. 300 - 325 rpm's.  Track diameter 11"s and axis tilt 17 deg. Axis rotation 45 - 60 deg. ave.   4 7/8" over & 3/8" up PAP.   Stats. are actual and not guessed. Have no issues moving in and not limited to only track area.

Looks to me from posts that those that have issues with the Tag either laid it out too weak or rev rate/technique possibly didn't match up to lane condition.   Either the Panic or Tag would be used typically inside as I follow the shot inside.

Any ideas?

If you are moving inside after using the Shock, you might want something with more backend to make it back to the pocket. This would favor the Tag in my opinion, as the Panic is cleaner but still smooth backend.  Just my 2 cents...

Venom Panic, I have both and they compliment each other very; I was gonna get a Tag to fit under my Shock, but people's opinions swayed me away from it, Panic is a great step down!!

For me: I prefer the Tag as Im sure everyone knows..lol. The Panic was great when i had a true fresh med/light shot. But as any shot broke down, I found it too fast to friction without the angle to consistently carry the corners. I tried many surfaces and it became very condition specific for me. I found my Tag drilled the same at 4000 surface to give me a similar read of the midlane but with a bit more punch in the back. I am able to move left and throw right when I need to, then can drop to my polished Tag when needed

Thanks to all who responded.  My driller suggests the Tag.  I am thinking 5" pin to PAP.  Pin above my ring and slightly towards bridge and take a 4000 pad to help it calm down slightly but it will still be snappy.

I am also considering adding a Forza Redline pin in ring like my Shock which should be about a arrow stronger than the Shock.  For me this would be a good medium oil benchmark reaction ball.

I don't regularly see lots of volume so balls above the Redline are needed sparingly.  Plus I am not speed dominant.

Line up.
Forza Redline pin in ring 4 1/2" Medium benchmark  OOB
Shock pin in ring 4 1/2" light-medium 4000
Grafitti Tag pin above 5" light 4000

Yeah, be careful where and how you use it, plus I wonder about the "pin over" but you probably have enough ball speed.

I say this because a one hander is using one in my summer league. Although he seems to have no clue and just wants to see the ball hook, it is a light oil and his Tag way outhooks his Optimus Pearl. Most times he stands against the ball return and still has to get it out to the 2/3 board to stay on the right side of the head pin. I;d guess his Optimus gets a controlled burn in the midlane & heads because it hooks about 10 or more  boards less than his Tag.
