Revolt Vengeance Layout Advice?
« on: August 22, 2015, 10:50:10 AM »
I am getting a Revolt Vengeance to fit between my Jackal and my Sigma Sting.

The Jackal is too strong for my normal house shot right now, but will be great if I see more oil at tournaments.  The Sting at box finish can go through the break point sometimes, but is fairly angular and great when things start to open up.

Since I play the left side, I can get away with no more than 2 strike balls plus a spare ball for most 3 game sets and rarely see the heads dry out.  So the plan for my normal house is for the Vengeance to be first ball out followed by the Sting if I start leaving corners.  I would like these balls to be fairly close on a house shot with the Sting going just a bit cleaner and semi-angular at the breakpoint.

The Sting layout is about 50 x 4.5 x 40 with a small p3 hole - which puts the pin less than an inch above my ring finger.  If I am looking for the Vengeance to be slightly stronger and more controlled on the fresh house shot, I am thinking I want the VAL angle bigger (lower pin) right?

Here's the main question:  I really like the idea of drilling out the pin for the ring finger (40 x 4.5 x 50 p3), but is the Vengeance different enough from the Sting for me to use this layout and still see the difference between balls that I want?  Has anyone out there had both of these balls?  Thanks!

MOTIV Jackal LE .................40 x 4.5 x 40 p2.5
MOTIV Revolt Vengeance......45 x 4.0 x 50 p3
MOTIV Forza GT ..................50 x 4.0 x 70 p2.5
MOTIV Sigma Sting..............50 x 4.0 x 45 p3

If you want to control the backends how about going w/ a bigger drill angle (90 to 105 range)?

The drilling Angie means nothing in a symmetrical ball. It's the accommodating hole placement that's makes a difference.

For me, the Vengeance is a nice step up from the Sigma Sting. I have mine drilled the same way and it's perfect when the Sigma Sting labors to get back to the pocket.

How are your Vengeance & Sting drilled?   pin location ... cg location ... etc.

Both are drilled the same.  Pin 1 inch above ring finger with the cg stacked directly below with no balance hole. My PAP is 5 over with 0 up/down. Both balls have 3 inch pins and very close to 3 Oz of top weight before drilling.

I can play pretty much straight up the boards with easy length through the heads with a nice controlled move into the pocket at the end of the pattern or I can change hand position and move inside and swing them effectively.

I had back surgery this past Friday, so am out of bowling until early November. I will probably have to return to 12# balls again when I start back and if so, the Vengeance is at the top of my list if the Rage isn't available in 12# and the drilling I am thinking about is close to what you say yours is. I will have to find a second ball under the Vengeance or Rage to give me a great 1-2 punch like the Scream and Thrash Frenzy did when I started back with 12# balls in Dec of 2013. Those 2 balls were the best 1-2 combo I have ever had in any brand.

My only worry about the Vengeance is it's low differential of .030 in 12# as I have never fared well with low differential balls.

If they end up real close then you can always adjust the surface of the two to separate them more.

Also, wait on the extra hole till after you give the ball some time on the lanes.
