Cruel C51 Review
« on: July 08, 2010, 01:21:27 AM »
PAP: -6 1/8 Horizontal -1/8 vertical

Layout: 55 x 3 1/2 x 35
Hole: 15/16" x 3" deep dual thumb

The Cruel is a completely new type of ball reaction for the Motiv brand.  It is a new shell coupled with a new core.

The shell is the Formula 5 hybrid reactive shell.  This is the strongest Motiv shell to date, but it is strong in a different fashion from the rest of the Motiv shells.  Most of the Motiv shells are designed to provide a smooth downlane reaction.  Heavy roll has been the calling card of Motiv products.

However, this Formula 5 shell is different.  It provides greater length than any of the other shells with a different, more agressive reaction at the breakpoint.  I have not typically been a proponent of hybrid shells, but this one provides the length of the pearl with angle and continuation.

Furthermore, the formula 5 shell is incredibly malleable.  With the strength of the core/cover combination of the Cruel, a versatile shell is an absolute must.  A shine will give a STRONG skid/flip reaction when paired with a complimentary layout while a great deal of surface with such a layout will look like an entirely different ball.  Be aware of what you want from this ball, shape the shell accordingly and you will be well pleased.

The core is the monstrous Cruel core.  This core is HUGE!  The bulk of the weight of the Cruel C51 is found in the core.  The numbers on the Cruel core are undeniable.  The differential is astounding and the intermediate differential is also substantial.

As a result, the Cruel C51 provides a different look than anything else with a big M on the side of it.  It is cleaner through the heads than any performance ball from Muskegon.  The asymmetry gives continuation down lane with substantially more angle.

I have an SR2 and a TR2 drilled the same way as the Cruel C51 and set the shells to match each other.  The Cruel C51 made the SR2 and TR2 look lazy on the backends.  I could get MUCH deeper and carry.  The SR2 and TR2 are phenomenal for midlane roll and moderate oil.  The Cruel C51, however, is a monster for backend continuation even on heavy oil.

The Cruel will work on most volumes of oil because of the ease of length.  Do not be afraid to attack a house shot with this ball.  However, it really sets itself apart from other equipment on long oil and carrydown.  When other balls wiggle and lope, the Cruel corners impressively; even giving area.

Cruel C51 is a must have for bowlers looking for cutting edge bowling technology.  It outperforms other asymmetrics and does so with style and aesthetic appeal that cannot be rivaled.
