Jackal Rising is the worst Motiv ball I've ever thrown
« on: January 29, 2018, 09:37:06 AM »
Let me start out by saying I'm exclusively throwing Motiv right now with a 7 ball arsenal. I have a higher ball speed and all of my Motiv equipment has performed resembling the factory motion videos when I use the same layout. This was the first case where this didn't happen.

I initially drilled the ball 70x4x40 because I wanted an early read without too violent of a backend. My Jackal Ghost had a very violent backend and covered a lot of boards. I ended up with very, very little ball motion and 0 backend. By zero backend I mean leaving pocket 5, 7, and 5-7. No energy in the back whatsoever. I spoke with Motiv about what was going on and they were very helpful in trying to diagnose the problem.

After about 15 games with it I decided it wasn't going to work as this was supposed to be a replacement for my Jackal Ghost. So I sent the ball in the the pro shop to get plugged and redrilled. I drilled it 70x5x70 which is a layout I have on a Trident Quest and a Venom Shock. After drilling it and throwing it the ball had 2-3 boards more motion to it and slightly more backend. The only problem is that my Trident Quest is coming back from places the Jackal Rising won't. This is throwing it on a modified version of Kegal's Stone Street which is a pretty easy pattern. Playing the exact same line in the track area the Rising is hitting either very, very light or missing the headpin all together.

I really hope it is just a defective ball. I have loved every Motiv product I have to date until this one. I'm going to see if Motiv will be willing to even look at a ball that has been plugged.

I’ve had my jackal rising for a few weeks now. The first week I loved it. Riled great felt great. Now I am finding that it’s burning up to quick and not a lot of motion. I’m taking it to my pro shop this week to see what my options are hopefully a good clean will wake it back up.
In bag: Jackal Rising, Venom Shock, Tank Rampage

Want: Venom Shock Pearl and Villan (both will be ordered)

If it's burning up there isn't enough oil for it

Usually yes. But last week our lanes were super soupy and it still was just sliding through. Tuckering our halfway thru the break.

It can't be burning up AND sliding too far. They are literally on opposite ends of the spectrum. It's either not expending early soon enough or it's expending it too early.

Would you mind posting a video yourself throwing the jackal so people can get an idea of what you are actually doing with it.

Trying putting the Rising in a ball oven. Mine was soaked. Amazed at how much oil that came out of ball. Ball rolling like new now. Also I changed surface to 500 with compound. Seemed to help.

Almost every solid strong cover ball will do that for me.  They burn up in the fronts just enough to reduce the rpm just enough so the ball does nothing on the back end.
I have yet to find a "strong" ball that will actually over hook for me.  I've seen a couple of Jackal Risings and was not impressed.  Like the original poster, they just seem to be too smooth and do nothing.. or just roll forward and do nothing.

You seem to be missing the point. If it's hooking at your foot, it can not slide out. It's in a roll. It has expended it's energy. There isn't any more skid. It has rolled out. Puked. DOA. Hit like marshmallow fluff. Looks like Gucci made the ball.

If your ball doesn't have enough traction, it is going to never pick up into a roll. Never sees friction. Never travels in the direction of the rotation.

It can NOT be both. Scientifically speaking, it's impossibility for a ball to keep skidding and roll out.

My Jackal Rising has been the BEST of the Jackal line that I have owned (Carnage, LE, Ghost). I won a tournament with mine just this past Sunday. Very consistent with a strong turn and great continuation. If it's not working for you, it is either drilled wrong, has the wrong surface, you're releasing it wrong or using it on the wrong lane condition.
Balls: Motiv Trident Abyss, Motiv Golden Jackal, Motiv Hydra and Motiv Hyper Sniper. All made in the USA.

. Even on a 52Ft pattern up the 4 board, you should be able to hit the head pin.

If you have super slow ball speed that might be possible. Ball has no chance on a 52 ft pattern from the 4 board. The longer the pattern, the closer you have to play to the pocket

Just wanted to update everyone on this ball. I didn't give up on it yet since working with the local Motiv Tour Pro. I took the cover down to 500 and I have found a pretty solid line over the last 3 weeks by slowing my ball speed down to 18 and loading up my release position. It is very, very smooth which is taking some getting used to. It reminds me of the motion of the older urethane balls you see in classic videos. With the shape it gives you, it carries a lot of 4 pins that would be left standing with a more angular ball. If you stay in the oil and don't burn it up by hitting the wall the ball hits pretty hard. I managed to throw 789 last night with a 290 my 2nd game. This ball is actually hooking more now that I've got some games on it. It is dramatically different than the Ghost, but I have found a place for it. I wish they would put some more space between them on the ball chart. I'm going to modify my review now that I've got some time in with it. My first impression of this ball wasn't good, but I'm warming up to it.

Probably needed some lane shine to wake it up a bit. Regardless of the reason, glad you found your way with it!
