Title: Extracting oil from Motiv bowling balls
Post by: L3nn0n on March 03, 2015, 10:42:07 PM
I have a NuBall rejuvenator and I love it. I've used it before with my Brunswick Wicked Siege and with my Paranormal Aura with great success. The balls are sweating oil after an hour at 125F. Sometimes I even have to leave them for an extra hour untiel they stop sweating oil. Completely different story with my Motiv equipment. I used it with my Jackal, NO OIL, used it with my Shock, nothing, used with my Sigma Sting and NADA, NONE, ZERO! Is it just me or someone else is having the same experience? Do I have to use a different temperature? More time maybe? Where is the oil? Lol  ;D

Beats me, I have yet to get oil out of mine either. There is a slight smell of oil sometimes, but never oil on the surface like I usually see with other stuff. It does seem to help restore the performance though.

I know, right??? It smells like the typical Motiv smell (which I love lol) and sometimes a slight oil smell too, but I can't see any oil on the surface! My guess is that after the first full surface of one of the balls I will see a lot of oil coming off the ball, but again, I'm just guessing... Have you tried doing that?

That doesn't seem to do it either. My primary Sting has probably 200 games. I've resurfaced it and cycled it through my ball oven a couple of times but never seen any visible oil. It does gain back the down lane pop after its done though.

And it's the same with my Tribal. A ton of games but has not shown oil yet.

Have you taken surface down before you put into revivor? I know when I do hot watter baths, I take to 500 then the oil pours out..

Damn... It puzzles me, where is the oil going? But at least is good yo know that it works and the ball gets back its original reaction. And is good to know that I am not the only one experiencing this!

No Vince, I haven't, but I think I'm gonna try that the next time I put them into the oven. That happened to my Paranormal. After a full resurface the ball was sweating oil for three cycles!

I'm seriously thinking about it. My coach also suggested me this:

http://www.bowlingindex.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=BI&Category_Code=P&Product_Code=PS-805SM

And I can plug it to an electric driller to make it a spinner. What do you think?

I saw that thing.....i think it would be fine for polish but for sanding it scared me...I have a vertex 1/2 hp spinner....3 years now and its great. its exoensive at first, spinner, pads, polishes....but then after the initial investment its not so bad....i buy $20 in pads every few months and am only on my 2nd bottle of snake oil polish in 2 years

Yeah, is a little expensive... The same happened to me when I got the NuBall, but now I feel is worth it. How much you paid for your spinner? About 200, 300? The other thing that scares me is that I don't know how to use it  ;D

My Primal Rage and Tribal don't bleed oil when I heat them up either. They must have a very slow absorption rate.

Not bad! Now I have to convince my wife lol but seriously I am thinking about getting one, hopefully will do it soon!

I never experienced something like it with any other brand, but now I am sure I am not the only one lol

Motiv covers soak up oil the slowest of any brand on the market by a fairly wide margin.  I usually expect to get nothing or next to nothing out of them in the Detox.  Ebonite brands are on the other end, I haven't done one of those yet that didn't gush, with Hammer being the worst.

It varies from bowling ball to to bowling ball. My Aura has got a lot of use this year and I keep fresh surface on it and have never got a drop. My Paranormal on the other hand will.

I have baked 3 different bowling balls using PK18 and none of them bleed oil. One an original Danger Zone that has never been cleaned in 20 years, the other a Copperhead drilled this past year and the last was a Karma. One of the balls that bled a lot I was surprised about....the original Yeti.

If no oil is coming out after 20-30 minutes I pull it and move on. Everything else starts bleeding usually in the first 10-15 minutes and I will keep them in there and wipe down every 20-30 minutes till no more oil comes out. Have had several take over two hours including the original yeti.

An option on deferring the cost some on a spinner is to go in with someone else on the purchase.  I went in with my parents (who bowl a lot more than I do) and in return I resurface their equipment when it needs it.  After a while you can discuss buying out the other person or the other way around.

Great deal on spinners for $230 shipped new. I got a Vortex and love it. Best investment you can make if a moderate to serious bowler.

guess that explains my hammer equipment.. any idea how much storms usually bleed out compared to the other companies

You bought a an oil extraction device but not a spinner?  Priorities in my mind are Spinner way before oil extraction device!  Unless you own a shop, you'll only need to do oil extraction on a ball every 50-60 games depending on the ball.  A spinner is a must have tool for any serious bowler.  Some balls need to have surface touched up ever 9-12 games as lane shine occurs (especially roughly sanded equipment).  Plus having the ability to resurface or just make surface adjustments to fine tune equipment is way more important than occasional oil extraction.

Buy a spinner dude!

As for the subject of the OP, I was able to extract oil easily from my Radical Reax and Storm Hy-Road Pearl.  However, my Mastermind, Defiant Soul, and 900G Network didn't sweat a drop.  So it's not just Motiv equipment.

Well, I got the NuBall for $100 shipped, that's why I got it before the spinner lol

But yeah, I need to get one ASAP.

I have a Sting which gives up NO oil even after a full hour at 125 degrees in my Nu Ball unit---not even a slick surface on the ball. I extended time between de-oiling from 30 to 45 games---still no oil or even a slick surface. I use a Nail Titanium on light oil-dry conditions. ITZPS is absolutely correct; even on light oil conditions, the NT bleeds a lot of oil after 30 games.
