Any info on this bowling ball. EJ Tackett had this ball on the show of the Pba World Championship final today. He did not use it, but it was in his arsenal.

Strongest Motiv ball to date
-
I just checked the USBC approved ball list and neither the Ghost Jackal or the Track Mako are on the list. So how can we find out more about these balls now? Staffers?

We don't really until Motiv and Track announce or (more likely) stuff leaks and it gets posted on here. A picture of the Jackal Ghost was already posted in another thread and it almost certainly uses the Predator V2 core so there's a decent starting point for that.
-
Correct me if I am wrong, but weren't the WSOB events suppose to use approved balls? Even if a manufacturer was going to release a ball at a further date, weren't they suppose to get it approved first? How can the bowlers use a non-approved ball?
Plus, aren't all the balls used suppose to be available to any bowler who competes in the WSOB? There was a rule change a few years ago that was suppose to prevent staffers from having sole access to equipment supplied by their manufacturer. If this is the case, then any WSOB bowler could get their hands on new equipment before its release date.

We thinking this is the Primal Rage Remix replacement or Jackal LE replacement?
-
We thinking this is the Primal Rage Remix replacement or Jackal LE replacement?
Definitely a replacement for the LE. Like tkkshop said it's the strongest Motiv ball yet and in another thread that ball was never really a release. Perhaps more importantly a ball that wasn't advertised or featured in pro shops (online or anywhere else). People can get a LE, but they're not exactly at the forefront of sales.

you're correct
-
While the Moderate MH spot is still vacant, it still makes me wonder what is replacing the Primal Rage Remix as, online it looks like they are hitting clearance.
-
Heck, we still need a Revolt Vengeance replacement.
-
If the Ghost Jackal is not yet approved and is not listed on the approved list by USBC; yet it was used or on the list to be used in the World Championship, then does that make the original Jackal and Jackal Carnage which is not approved by the USBC eligible to have been used?
I thought like spmcgivern's post that a ball has to be approved by USBC to be used.
Anybody know the correct answer?

PBA has a different approved list
-
ghost jackal is not on the pba approved list
here is the mako from the pba site
Mako

typical scam bs from the pba and ball companies allowing non usbc approved/ non pba approved balls being used.
-
Pba allows upcoming releases to be used at prerecorded events like the WSOB. They are only allowed for use during that event. They become usable in their events at their release date. I remember a pro (Tod Book) leading the regional following the WSOB a couple years ago. He realised the Sigma Sting he threw all week in the WSOB was not approved for that event, but only the WSOB. He turned himself in and was disqualified as a result.

I dont think that you really want to see the pictures of the "Jackal" from 13 Ghosts. ;D

If I ever were to get a motiv these days....this would be the ball to test....
Just dang..
-
Just another ball I won't consider simply because I will almost never see conditions in which to throw it.
My son however....
This appears (to me) to be finally a ball to replace the Raptor Talon in that it is earlier than the more recent Heavy Oil balls (including the Carnage and the LE). I am kind of envisioning a Raptor Talon with more continuation. If that is even a close description, then it would interest my son a great deal; more so than the LEs we have waiting on the rack in the basement. He loves the Talon. He's had one at every weight stop from 13-15 pounds.
-
So same coverstock as the Revolt Havoc. Hmm..this and the Trident would be an interesting comparison.

Wanna try them together, Dozer? :P

No, not the same cover as the Havoc. That was the Helix HFS, this is the Coercion HFS.

Well I got a remix but I hear it was so-so...trying to pawn that off on someone else...but yeah I'd be all over it immediately but the No Rules pearl has my name all over it... decisions, decisions
Seems to be a great ball in the making.
These releases are well thought out and tested well it seems..

I can't speak on any other Motiv ball but the Primal Fear. The Primal Fear was my first testing of Motiv and I'll say I'm impressed. Seems to have great carry and continuation. Versatile piece so I'm enticed to give them a chance, alongside Storm/RG/900G of course. Someday I'll try some of this new stuff Hammer and Track are putting out but I digress.
-
Yeah, Motiv and Global would have to coexist in my bag peacefully. May happen soon.
-
They coexist well Doom. That's what's in my bag LOL

Bill - Why this over say the Trident? I'm searching for a new big ball and thinking of trying one of these two. I like my Primal Fear enough I'm willing to try another Motiv.

Just a lot of success seen with that core.
Yet to see a trident in any of my 3 leagues. But there were a ton of jackals and Carnage's ....all guys liked them.
-
Also sick of the storm solids lasting like 30-40 then they don't work and they doink 10 pins like crazy....I enjoyed that jackal oil test video...and If they truly last that long my tenure with Utah may end sooner than expected.
Inknow I sound like AMF300crazy guy

Alright, that's fair. Do you think the Ghost will be stronger than the Alpha Crux?

You're not wrong though. At least for the first part. ;)

So just the Solids?

So just the Solids?
Eh, to me lately a lot of Storm/Roto Grip stronger (mostly on the backend... but that's what they're known for) equipment loses a bit of it's luster fairly quickly. Diligent maintenance helps but it's still sooner than the other brands. I stuck with Roto Grip for a few years but have been branching out again lately. It's not bad product by any means, just more time-consuming than others.

I noticed that happen with my Hy-Road Pearl. Considering giving Track and Hammer a try. Digging Motiv as well though. I feel like 900 Global really is just making a circle if the issue is with the coverstocks.
-
I agree with billdozer's assessment regarding Storm balls. My Storm Fight was a pin destroyer as he said for about 40 + games, then nothing. Had it checked for oil (none), resurfaced to no avail. Now use it for a boat anchor. Moved on to Motiv all the way!
Damn Motiv is putting our some great pieces.
-
I haven't noticed ball death from storm or rotogrip, but the only high performance ball I have from them is a Sinister drilled weak, and man does that thing still kill after a few hundred games! Goes long on these old wood lanes and snaps. I've never seen anything murder the pins like it does. Off topic, but is there anything out there similar to the cage core?

I wouldn't worry too much about 900 Global. I'm pretty sure they're back to manufacturing all of their stuff in San Antonio again.

Bill and others,
Regarding this 30-40 game window "of death", I assume you are cleaning these monster oilers after each session, but are you guys refreshing and res-surfacing these balls as well, every 9-12 games?
I'm wondering why you're seeing this extreme reduction in performance, when you really shouldn't be. Most coverstock react well to the necessary maintenance. Even when performance isn't identical to new, it should be within a 90-95% wind of new, with both finish and oil absorption prevention.

Yes, even after de-oiling (NuBall oven) and resurfacing it just doesn't seem like they're retaining overall motion/pop off the spot. It helps but the last few higher end Storm/Roto Grip balls I've and my teammates have had experience a fairly quick dropoff. Cleaning after every session is a virtual certainty on my part, and the others keep up with it just as well.
Although I don't know if I would go so far as to call it an extreme reduction in performance, but it is noticeable.

I guess it depends on how sharp your eye is. 90% of original is good for a very used ball, say 100-150 games, but it could be noticeable. Of course this is all theoretical, as we don't have a Throbot and Kegel lane with the computer to measure oil and hook and angle. 95% of original should be a board or less and hardly noticeable. If the reduction is more, it is a shame because I had though that most strong coverstocks were now being designed with rejuvenation and maintenance in mind.
Storm and Roto-Grip do have a reputation for some very strong balls, But so do Motiv and Brunswick and theirs seem less problematic or at least fewer people have talked about their loss of performance.
All in all, though, quite a shame for such expensive balls to lose so much performance so early/quickly.
-
Before retiring my Storm Fight, I was cleaning it immediately after league or tournaments and refreshing the surface every six games. As previously stated I de-oiled it and there was none.
I would estimate the performance dropped by at least 30% after the first 40-50 games.
The ball would labor to hook and the "hit" at the pins was noticeably weakened. I thought maybe it was burning up, but I tried other balls and they all performed well.
Right or wrong I came to the conclusion, I may have gotten a ball from a batch that chemically was not up to the same performance standards as other Fight's from other batches. I'll never really know. That's why it's retired and I have moved on. But, I have to admit it was fun while it lasted the way that "hugh" core destroyed the rack.
-
I clean and maintain by equipment as rigorous as anyone. Everything is wiped between shots, and throughly cleaned at the alley before going home. I adjust covers on the spinner to refresh the surface on every ball approximately every 20-30 games.
There are very few balls I've owned that ever suffered complete "ball death". As charlest stated, every ball suffers some degradation over time, but thats normal regardless of manufacturer.
The last ball I couldn't revive no matter what I did was the Storm Reign of Power. The ball was a monster at first, but noticeably mellowed out after a short period of time. I tried every corrective measure possible to no avail. I finally gave up.
It's unfair for me to make any sweeping Storm conclusions, but that experience turned me off to buying Storm higher-end equipment. There are too many other choices.
