Motiv Venom Strike
« on: November 26, 2012, 03:16:24 PM »
This new Venom Strike will not be missed on the shelves. The color combo is definitely eye-catching.

Mine is drilled with the pin under the middle finger, CG under the ring finger, in my palm.  The pin is about 2” out.  My PAP is about 4 ¾ over, 0 up.  With this layout the pin is about 5 ½ inches from my pap at a 70 degreeish drilling angle.  I have a Primal Scream and a QZ2 drilled the same way.

The ball gets out of the heads very clean, and has a good motion on the backends.  It is no where nearly as strong as the Primal Scream, but the Primal Scream is meant for longer oil and heavier volume.

The strength of the ball is on medium to short oil.  It turns earlier and harder than my QZ2 on the same conditions.

I found this ball to be way more aggressive than adveritised. The drilling is basically the same as I have on my Raptor Attack and the Venom is at least 3 or more boards more overall hook than my RA......I can use the Venom on occasion, but it is nowhere near what I bought it for.

Tracy:

I don't like comparing balls 'directly' to each other unless they have the same layouts.

I have a Raptor Attack that is drilled with the same layout as one of my primal screams.  My RA hooks more, but earlier.  I have a Primal Scream with the same layout as my Venom.  The Venom hooks much less than the PS, but more than the QZ2.  I am not sure how your Venom can hook MORE than a RA.  Same  layouts?

Isn't that what he said??

"Basically the same" is not the same.  It would be interesting to hear how different are the two layouts.  Wt. holes can change the motion significantly.

I think something was missed.

I can give you exact layouts later, but I would have to say that the layouts are almost identical. I think that however slight the difference is, it should not amount to the Venom being stronger, based on the advertised difference in the strength of the covers.

Just an FYI on Venom Strike total hook strength and I do have one.  This is from BTM they rate it almost equal in total hook to a 2 Cruel and I quote under the Total Hook Section of the Venom Strike ball review "We found the Venom Strike to offer much more hook than where Motiv has it placed in their reaction charts".  I am only saying this so others be fore warned as how to layout VS's.  BTM rated it as an oily use ball (total hook 53 BTM).  Though, I do not have a Thrash I would rate it possibly slightly above that and below the black Sigma Tour (derivative of ST's cover and lower total diff. on the VS low Rg ball like the ST.  I do agree with Tracy I would not say it's placed correctly as a light-medium ball slow response ball.  Factoring in lane condition , bowlers stats., ball surface etc.  Stating this from my experience not to start arguments but for lucid discussion.

My experience on a 41' slightly blended condition this morning 3 men on a lane 3 games.   223-240-268  Used Venom Strike bit inside rolled 12 at arrows to 8 on fresh 1st two games switched to Primal Scream last game in to 14-15 at arrows to 8.  Good move more power in the pocket with the PS.

Now, I have a Venom Strike and though it is a weaker layout 78*(PAP-pin-PSA)x4 3/4"x65* no x hole it is a great house shot ball as long as you can move in slightly and play the volume in around 3rd arrow.  If you are a highre speed lower rev player you could move out into track area again depending on lane condition. Very much a control ball OOB @P3000.  My PAP is 5" over and 0.

I picked up my Venom Strike last week and have only thrown it a few practice games. I was surprised at how strong it was. The lanes were trashed with kids having thrown plastic most of the day (lots of carry down), and the ball had some serious traction. It was certainly much more aggressive than my solid Ascent with the same layout, which didn't move more than a few boards in the comparison.

I wish I had brought my Thrash instead for comparison, but maybe next time out. My feeling is that they'll be very close to each other in total hook.

I have now thrown both of the Venom Strikes i drilled. #1 is 4 x60x35 box finish and no hole. #2 is 5x70x70 4k + Storm xtra-shine I found that with my first VS i play the exact same line as my Sigma Tour 5x45x35 2k polished. However the Sigma revs up harder  and drives harder on the back. For me the VS gets down the lane well even with my 12mph ball speed and make a defined but very smooth move to the pocket with great continuation. VS #2 I have only thrown so far on my Monday league which is on older Brunswick synthetic with a bunch of friction. For me the ball got through the heads very clean with a nice arc to the pocket and great carry. It is about 3 and 2  stronger than my 5x60x400 polished Cobra se. U&nfortuanatly it will be at least 2 months before i can throw it again on pro-anvilane wher #1 shinesdue to a medical issue
