New surface on the new Sky Raptor. Anyone know the steps/ grits?

I just ordered a laser ball scanner. So I should be able to figure it out when I get the ball

I'm guessing 500, 1000, 2000 and 3000 x 2. Just wondering.

Website chart isn't updated with it yet, when balls get close to release date Motiv puts up a link to surface guide for that ball.
I will say when I pulled my Sky out of the box it was hard to think it wasn't polished, it's a very shiny looking "sanded" finish. Similar to using the Trucut 5000D (think thats the name) pad with water on a ball spinner.
I'll reply in here if I see an official update on how to replicate the finish on the Sky.

Motiv has a factory finish guide on their website to replicate these finishes either by hand on a spinner or on a resurfacing machine in a pro shop.

This will be the easiest way to replicate the finishes. If you're looking to get a similar shine too, I would recommend purchasing a bottle of the MOTIV Power Gel polish. It is the same polish they use in factory, so it will do the same exact effect as if it was out of box.

My guess is that is exactly what they are using. I know EJ Tackett is a staff guy for Creating the Difference so it would not surprise me if Motiv is using their products. P5000D does leave a shiny appearance without the use of polish.

My ball scanner shows > 5400 if I used the 5000 pad on the ball spinner. If I do it by hand, then it comes in at 5000-5500. It does still look somewhat polished.
I show a 5000 surface when using 3000 grit on a ball spinner with water. But it's not "polished" shiny, but somewhat shiny.

Your findings are interesting. Ronald Hickland did a test with the 3 different companies sanding pads (abralon, siaair, and trucut). His findings were that when using a 2000 pad; his trucut was the only one that came close to 2000. The other two were more like 3500. So it makes me wonder why those companies are claiming a certain grit on their pads when after doing a test it doesnt come anywhere near it. While trucut did not come out to a "true" 2000; is was still around 2500 as opposed to 3500.
During the test; he took the ball to 3000 before hitting them with the 2000. This could explain why the tests did not come down to 2000. IMO; to get to 2000; he may have needed to come all the way down to 500 or 1000 and then sanding up to the 2000. But either way; his pad still proved whatever grit is noted on the pad itself; is closest to the surface grit on the ball when sanded.

I'm using CTD Trucut pads and the same scanner he uses. The only difference is when dry sanding, I didn't use his pad spray.
I think his results may be "helpful" to selling his product.
The scanner is awesome though and the Trucut pads do work better than the competition.
