Title: Motiv Arsenal
Post by: Blueprint on August 31, 2014, 01:11:48 AM
I'm finally looking at getting a few Motiv pieces. I'm currently throwing an Uproar, Optimus, Outcry, Rumble, and Hyper Cell. What Motiv pieces could I replace these with? I've been looking at the Ascent Apex, Tribal, Tribal Fire, Venom Shock, Octane, Sigma Sting, and Covert Revolt. Out of these Motiv balls which will make a good 5 ball arsenal?

Blueprint:  Can you tell us about your game so we can be a little more specific on suggestions?  Thanks

Sure...  My speed is 17 to 18 mph, while my rev rate is 400 to 450 rpm. I bowl at 3 different houses were the shots can vary from week to week. One week the backend may be flying and the next week the ball may not wrinkle. So I've started treating league like a week to week tournament at a house I've never bowled in. I try to bring equipment that will handle a heavier oiled shot down to a drier shot, because I never know what to expect.

The Ascent Apex would be close to the UpRoar.
Venom Shock is close to the Rumble.
Closest to Optimus probably a Rage.
Motiv doesn't have anything at the moment with such a strong cover and core like the Hyper.

I would go Revolt, Rage, Shock, Apex. And you could throw in an octane or tribal as a skid/flip ball

I agree with what SVstar34 mentions in all of the arsenal choices.

The closest to the Outcry is probably going to be Sigma Sting.  Keep in mind that the Outcry is a hybrid whereas the Sigma Sting has a pearl cover.  However, the pearl cover on the Sigma Sting doesn't act like a true pearl cover.  It's more of a benchmark piece where you get the easy length of a pearl but seems to pick up a little sooner like a solid.  It truly acts more as a hybrid in a lot of ways.  All in all, a great ball and really versatile and my favorite from their lineup so far.  I consider it one of the best balls I've ever thrown.

For the Hyper Cell, the closest you'll get is the Raptor Talon.  It's still a strong ball, but you're better off keeping the Hyper Cell for now.

Also want to mention that the Covert Revolt is a good medium-heavy oil solid that allows you to chase the pattern in while still keeping a very continuous motion.  It's not as angular as the Zero Gravity but definitely seems to finish and carry better.

I was thinking the Tribal Fire would be similar to the Outcry since they are both hybrids and the core numbers are similar on both (Outcry 2.55 0.030 Tribal Fire 2.55 0.037). I was also thinking the Sigma Sting would be similar to the Optimus once again because they are both pearl with similar core numbers (Optimus 2.48 0.048 Sting 2.47 0.047). But that's why I asked the question because sometimes the numbers don't tell the whole story and actually seeing the equipment in action can give a different point of view.

I'm not sure about the Tribal Fire vs Out Cry comparison. While then numbers are similar I think the Halogen core outperforms it's numbers and I feel like the Fusion hybrid cover might be a little stronger than the cover on the Out Cry.
I wish I had personal experience with the Sigma Sting. To me I feel like the Rage with roughly a pin down layout would be closest to the optimus

For me My Tribal 45x4.5x35 and my Fusxion 60x4.5x35 both hook the same amount overall (I play the exact same line with both balls.  For me the Tribal is longer, more angular, and more continues. When I start to leave 4-9's with the Tribal I switch to the Fusion and go back to striking
